Samsung’s first U.S. update for the original Galaxy Watch Ultra began rolling out on August 5, 2024. It is an important post-launch maintenance patch, but not a major feature release: Samsung’s changelog focuses on device stability, battery stability, and charging stability.
The reported U.S. firmware build was L705USQU1AXG2, with a download of approximately 175.81MB on one Watch Ultra unit. Those details apply to the reported rollout and should not be treated as universal across countries, carriers, or LTE and Bluetooth variants.

What the update changes
Samsung’s reported changelog is maintenance-oriented. It emphasizes:

- General reliability improvements
In practical terms, stability work may reduce crashes, abnormal behavior, inconsistent battery performance, or charging interruptions. However, Samsung did not describe a specific battery defect, promise a fixed number of additional hours, or announce a new health feature, app, interface redesign, or operating-system upgrade in this release.
That distinction matters. “Battery stability” does not necessarily mean longer battery life. Runtime still depends on LTE use, GPS, display settings, health sensors, sleep tracking, notifications, apps, network conditions, temperature, and battery health.
Is it really a big update?
It is big in timing, not in features. This was the first meaningful post-launch patch for a brand-new premium watch, so reliability improvements were particularly relevant. A wearable is used continuously for workouts, notifications, alarms, sleep tracking, and other daily tasks; charging or stability problems can therefore be more disruptive than a small phone bug.

But owners should not expect the update to transform what the Watch Ultra can do. The evidence supports calling it an important maintenance release—not a feature overhaul.
How to install the update
Using a connected Android phone
- Make sure the watch is connected to your phone.
- Open Galaxy Wearable.
- Tap Watch settings.
- Tap Watch software update.
- Tap Download and install if an update is available.
Samsung notes that screens and menu labels can vary by phone, watch, and software version. Its current Galaxy Watch update guidance is the best reference if your menus look different.

Directly on the watch
- Press the watch’s Home/Power button.
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Watch software update.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Before you start
Samsung says the watch may require at least 30% charge before an update can begin. Charge it well above that minimum when possible, use a reliable connection, and avoid interrupting the installation. The watch may reboot and display a progress bar or rotating animation while the update is applied.
Do not begin the update during an active workout, overnight sleep-tracking session, travel, or a period when you cannot afford to miss an alarm. Updating does not establish any improvement in medical, heart-rate, sleep, or emergency accuracy.

What to do if the update does not appear
A missing update does not necessarily indicate a problem. Samsung firmware releases can be staged by region, carrier, and model. LTE and Bluetooth versions may also receive different builds. Your watch may already be running a later version than the August 2024 release.
Try this sequence
- Confirm that the watch is paired and visible in Galaxy Wearable.
- Charge the watch beyond 30%.
- Connect the phone to reliable Wi-Fi.
- Restart both the phone and the watch.
- Check Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → Watch software update again.
- Check directly on the watch under Settings → General → Watch software update.
- Compare the installed version on your watch with the available update; do not try to replace a newer build with this older 2024 firmware.
If installation repeatedly fails, use Samsung’s support guidance and Samsung Members rather than downloading firmware from an unofficial source. Manual flashing is unnecessary for ordinary owners and can create additional risks.
Charging problems after the update
A charging-stability patch may improve software-related charging reliability, but it cannot prove that every charging problem is caused by firmware. If the watch still will not charge, check that:

- The watch is correctly positioned on the charging puck.
- The rear of the watch and charger are clean and dry.
- The cable and power adapter are undamaged.
- The accessory is compatible with the Watch Ultra.
- The watch is not excessively hot.
Persistent charging failure may indicate an accessory or hardware problem rather than something the update can repair. The included Samsung charging puck or a compatible Samsung accessory is the safer choice; generic Qi chargers are not automatically compatible with Galaxy Watch charging hardware.

The watch’s firmware update is separate from updates for Wear OS apps. Samsung’s support information says Wear OS watch apps are updated through the Google Play Store, rather than the older Galaxy Store workflow used for some non-Wear OS Galaxy Watch models.
Installing this firmware does not require a subscription or a separate service signup.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7 received a parallel first-update rollout around the same time, but its firmware identifiers were different. Watch 7 owners should not search for the Watch Ultra’s L705USQU1AXG2 build or assume that the same file applies to their watch.
Likewise, international Watch Ultra owners and users with different carrier or connectivity variants should compare the software version shown on their own device instead of expecting the U.S. build number.

Buying context: original Watch Ultra versus refreshed models
This update story concerns the original 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra. Samsung’s later product pages identify refreshed Ultra models with updated model numbers and variants, so prospective buyers should check the exact model before purchasing.
The original U.S. LTE Watch Ultra had a launch-era MSRP of $649.99, according to Samsung’s July 2024 MSRP file. Samsung’s June 2026 MSRP documentation also lists original and refreshed variants at that MSRP, but MSRP is not the same as a current sale price. For readers who want Samsung’s Wear OS ecosystem without the Ultra’s large 47mm ruggedized design and premium positioning, the Galaxy Watch 7 is the more natural alternative. This update alone is not a reason for an existing owner to buy a new watch.
One important date qualification
L705USQU1AXG2 is a historical 2024 rollout build, not necessarily the latest software available today. If you are checking your watch now, trust the update status shown in Galaxy Wearable or on the watch itself. Samsung’s current menus and available firmware can vary by software version, model, region, and carrier.
