Yes—the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro supports an ECG (electrocardiogram) through Samsung Health Monitor, provided the watch, paired Samsung Galaxy phone, software, age, and country meet Samsung’s requirements. It records about 30 seconds of electrical heart rhythm and can classify the tracing as Sinus Rhythm, Atrial Fibrillation, Inconclusive, or Poor Recording. It is a screening tool, not a diagnostic 12-lead ECG or a substitute for medical care.

Check Samsung’s current Health Monitor requirements because availability varies by market and software revision.

What the Watch5 Pro ECG actually measures

An ECG records the heart’s electrical activity. The Watch5 Pro uses electrical contacts on its rear sensor and the fingertip touching the top/Home button to create a brief, single-lead-style rhythm recording. Samsung designed the feature chiefly to identify patterns that may suggest atrial fibrillation (AFib).

This is not continuous ECG monitoring and is not equivalent to a clinical 12-lead ECG. It cannot diagnose every heart condition, explain all palpitations, or determine whether symptoms are dangerous. Samsung describes the app as informational and says it does not replace a clinician or traditional examination.

Is ECG available on every Galaxy Watch5 Pro?

The Watch5 Pro has the required hardware, but the feature still depends on activation, phone compatibility, software, and regulatory availability.

  • A compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone; Samsung’s current U.S. documentation specifies Android 12 or later.
  • Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health, and Samsung Health Monitor installed and updated.
  • The watch paired through Galaxy Wearable and Bluetooth.
  • ECG approval and Samsung Health Monitor availability in your country or region.
  • At least 10 MB free on the watch and 100 MB on the phone for ECG recording.
  • User age of at least 22 under Samsung’s stated Health Monitor restriction.
  • No implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker or implantable defibrillator unless a qualified clinician specifically advises use.

Samsung’s U.S. support page says Health Monitor is not available on iPhone or other Android phones. Imported watches can have a different regional configuration, so changing a phone region, using a VPN, or installing modified APKs is not an official solution. Regional rules can change; check the regional Health Monitor page.

How to set up ECG

  1. Pair the Watch5 Pro with your Galaxy phone in Galaxy Wearable.
  2. Install all available watch and phone updates.
  3. Open or install Samsung Health Monitor on the connected phone.
  4. Accept the disclosures and grant requested permissions.
  5. Open ECG in Health Monitor and complete the on-screen setup.
  6. Open Health Monitor on the watch and confirm the selected wrist.
  7. Complete an initial recording; related rhythm features such as Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification may require ECG setup first and may not be available in every region.

The app is normally offered after a compatible watch and phone are paired. It is not a generic ECG app that works on any Android handset.

How to take a 30-second ECG

  1. Wear the watch snugly on the wrist chosen during setup, away from the wrist bone.
  2. Sit down and rest your forearms on a table or other flat surface.
  3. Open Samsung Health Monitor on the watch and select ECG.
  4. Place a fingertip from the opposite hand lightly on the top/Home button. Do not press it.
  5. Remain still and silent for approximately 30 seconds.
  6. Wait for the classification to appear.
  7. Open Health Monitor on the phone to view the report and history.

Understanding the results

Result Meaning What to do
Sinus Rhythm A regular rhythm was detected during this recording. U.S. documentation describes an app-defined range of approximately 50–100 beats per minute; other regional documents may say 50–99. It is not a clean bill of health. Intermittent arrhythmias and other conditions can be missed.
Atrial Fibrillation The tracing has a pattern suggestive of AFib. Contact a healthcare professional for confirmation and advice. Do not start, stop, or change treatment from the watch result alone.
Inconclusive The app could not classify the rhythm because of an unsupported rate or rhythm, movement, contact problems, or interference. Rest 5–10 minutes, improve contact, and repeat once. If it persists, save the report and seek clinical advice.
Poor Recording Signal quality was insufficient for reliable classification. Treat it as a recording-quality problem: reposition, clean the sensor, stay still, and try again.

How to improve a poor recording

  • Clean and dry the rear sensor and use a clean, uncovered fingertip.
  • Keep the strap secure but not painfully tight; avoid placing the watch over the wrist bone.
  • Support the arm, keep the button contact consistent, and do not talk or move.
  • Wait about 5–10 minutes after exercise, caffeine, nicotine, or emotional exertion.
  • Avoid testing during medical procedures or near strong electromagnetic fields.
  • Skin conditions, poor contact, movement, and an irregular or very fast/slow rate can prevent classification.

Viewing, saving, and sharing reports

The result syncs to the paired phone. In Samsung Health Monitor, the latest result appears as a report thumbnail; View history opens earlier reports. You can generate a PDF containing the ECG information, save it, or share it with a clinician. Reports remain in history until deleted or the device is reset, and some sharing methods may not accept PDF attachments.

ECG versus Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification

These are different features:

  • ECG: a user-initiated, short electrical recording.
  • Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN): a background feature that periodically analyzes pulse data from the optical sensor and may prompt an ECG when it detects a pattern suggestive of AFib.

IHRN is not continuous ECG and may miss episodes. It is region-dependent and generally requires ECG setup first. See Samsung’s IHRN instructions.

Medical limitations and urgent symptoms

A Sinus Rhythm result does not rule out heart disease or an intermittent rhythm problem, and an inconclusive or poor recording does not prove AFib. Do not use the watch alone to make medical decisions. Samsung restricts the feature for people under 22 and warns about certain implanted electronic devices.

Seek emergency care instead of repeating watch readings for chest pain, fainting, severe shortness of breath, sudden weakness, facial drooping, trouble speaking, or other stroke or cardiac warning signs. For recurring palpitations or repeated AFib results, contact a healthcare professional and bring the saved reports.

Troubleshooting

ECG is missing

Verify the model and software, update Galaxy Wearable and Health Monitor, confirm the Galaxy phone and Android version, check storage, and review country/region compatibility. An imported Watch5 Pro may not match local availability.

“No compatible watch found”

Restart the phone and watch, confirm the watch is connected inside Galaxy Wearable (not only in Bluetooth settings), update both apps, and reopen Health Monitor on both devices. Re-pair only after backing up relevant watch data.

Spigen for Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro 45mm Band with Case (2022)
  • Compatible with BIA Body Composition Measurement and Heart Rate Monitoring Feature with precise Button Cut-Out design
  • All-around scratch defense with shock-absorbing material
  • Rugged design with an adjustable band with a durable metal clasp
  • Raised bezels around the screen for extra screen protection
  • Precisely designed for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro 45mm. Fits 5.5 inch to 8.5 inch (140mm - 215mm) wrists.

Repeated poor or inconclusive readings

Clean the sensor, adjust fit and position, support the arm, remain silent, rest, and try once more. Persistent inconclusive results or recurring symptoms warrant clinical advice rather than endless retesting.

Is the Watch5 Pro still worth buying for ECG?

For an existing owner with a compatible Galaxy phone, a working ECG, and a preference for the Watch5 Pro’s titanium case and large battery, keeping it is reasonable. ECG alone is not a reason to pay a premium for an older model: Samsung’s current U.S. storefront promotes newer watches, including the Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, and Watch Ultra.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a new buyer, verify the exact seller, region, warranty, and phone compatibility. Samsung lists the Galaxy Watch7 from $249.99 before trade-in on its product page, while its June 2026 MSRP sheet lists Watch8 models from $349.99 and the Ultra at $649.99. Those newer models may offer a longer support horizon, but all ECG access remains dependent on local approval and a compatible Samsung phone. Choose the Watch5 Pro only when its verified used or remaining-stock price and rugged battery-focused design outweigh that uncertainty.

Bottom line

The Galaxy Watch5 Pro can capture a useful 30-second rhythm snapshot through Samsung Health Monitor and flag a pattern suggestive of AFib. Use it correctly, treat classifications as screening information, and involve a clinician when results repeat or symptoms matter. It is not a diagnostic ECG, continuous monitor, or replacement for emergency or professional care.
