Yes. Samsung’s policy covers the Galaxy Watch7 and the original, 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra, promising up to four years of One UI Watch and Wear OS upgrades. That is not a guarantee of four identical major Wear OS releases, a fixed final-update date, or four years of security patches. If the period is measured from the watches’ July 2024 launch, support could extend to about July 2028—but Samsung has not published that as a cutoff.
What Samsung actually promised
Samsung said Galaxy Watch devices beginning with the Watch4 generation, including upcoming Galaxy Watch series devices, would receive up to four years of One UI Watch and Wear OS upgrades. The Watch7 and 2024 Watch Ultra qualify. Samsung also says availability and timing can vary by model and by the timing of Android or Wear OS upgrades. Samsung’s policy announcement is the source for the commitment and its qualifications.
“Up to” matters: the policy is a ceiling, not a promise that every watch will receive four complete annual platform releases or every feature in each release. Samsung’s wording is about One UI Watch and Wear OS upgrades; it does not establish a separate, equally long security-patch schedule for these watches.

Samsung’s July 2024 product announcement gives the announcement and availability context. The watches launched with Wear OS 5; Samsung’s 2026 interim report identifies their platform. Neither source turns July 2028 into a guaranteed final-update date.

What counts as an update?
Wear OS upgrade
This is a new generation of the underlying operating system—for example, moving from Wear OS 5 to a later Wear OS version. Samsung’s commitment includes Wear OS upgrades, but does not promise four specific generations.
One UI Watch update and feature backport
One UI Watch is Samsung’s watch software and feature layer. A One UI Watch release can bring selected features to older watches without giving them every capability of newer hardware or a new underlying platform. Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch rollout announcement described selected Watch7 and Ultra experiences reaching older Watch4, Watch5, and Watch6 families. That is evidence of feature distribution, not proof that all models have feature parity.

Security patches and app updates
Security patches address vulnerabilities; Samsung’s specific watch promise is for One UI Watch and Wear OS upgrades, not a separately stated four-year patch schedule. Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health, Google Play services, and individual watch apps may also update independently of the watch’s system software. What rollout history shows—and does not show
Samsung announced One UI 8 Watch availability for the Galaxy Watch Ultra in South Korea on July 22, 2025, with features including Running Coach, Vascular Load, Antioxidant Index, and Multi-Info Tiles. See Samsung’s One UI 8 Watch announcement. This shows continued software support for the Ultra after launch; it does not establish the remaining update schedule or guarantee four major Wear OS releases.

Rollouts are not necessarily simultaneous. Country, model number, and Bluetooth or LTE variant can affect when firmware appears. Samsung’s Watch7 firmware page illustrates that release information is tied to a particular model and market variant, rather than one universal schedule.
Will both watches get every new feature?
No. Samsung’s policy does not guarantee identical feature availability. A feature may depend on the watch’s processor or sensors, country or regulatory approval, phone model and software, Samsung Health version, or other connected services. Samsung’s rollout notices refer to selected features, not universal parity.

- New health functions can require particular sensors, a compatible Samsung phone, or local authorization.
- Cellular and Bluetooth variants may receive firmware on different schedules.
- A feature included in a software release may still be unavailable in a particular country or phone setup.
These are separate from whether the watch remains within the OS-upgrade policy: receiving an upgrade does not guarantee that every function in it will work on every configuration.

The Watch7 and 2024 Watch Ultra are Wear OS watches for Android phones, not iPhones. Samsung’s U.S. compatibility guide lists these watches among models that rely on Google Play services, which are not supported on iOS. Samsung’s product information lists Android 11 or later and more than 1.5 GB of memory as compatibility requirements, while some functions have stricter Samsung-phone requirements; see the Watch7 specifications. Compatibility and health-feature availability can differ by region and feature.

Watch7 or 2024 Watch Ultra?
Both are covered by the same stated “up to four years” policy. The Ultra’s higher-end hardware does not give it a separately identified longer software-support period.

Samsung’s 2026 interim report lists the Ultra’s 590 mAh battery and 10ATM water resistance, and Watch7 battery capacities of 300 mAh for 40 mm and 425 mAh for 44 mm. Those specifications describe hardware, not support duration. The Watch7 sizes are also listed in Samsung Mobile Press specifications.
Buying or keeping one in 2026
For someone already using a Watch7 or the 2024 Ultra, the policy makes continued system upgrades plausible for several years from launch, but does not settle the exact end date or guarantee every new feature. Battery condition, phone compatibility, and whether the watch still meets your needs can matter before the estimated support horizon.

An older Watch6 or Watch5 may cost less, but its earlier launch means less time remains within any launch-based support window. A Pixel Watch may suit buyers prioritizing Google’s ecosystem, while Garmin better suits a focus on training and battery life; neither is a like-for-like replacement for Samsung-specific health and phone integration. iPhone owners should consider Apple Watch instead, since these Galaxy Wear OS watches do not support iPhone pairing.
How to check for a Watch7 or Ultra update
- Open Galaxy Wearable on the connected Android phone and select the watch.
- Open Watch settings, then choose Watch software update. Labels can vary with app and phone software versions.
- Tap Download and install if an update is offered, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Keep the watch charged and connected to Wi-Fi or its paired phone, and do not interrupt installation. If no update appears, confirm that Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health are current, restart the phone and watch, reconnect Bluetooth, and check again later. A staged rollout may not yet have reached your country, carrier, or exact model variant; “up to date” means no update is available to that device at that time.
