Samsung’s smart glasses are officially planned for fall 2026 in select markets, but Samsung has not confirmed that the product is called “Haean.” That name comes from One UI 9 firmware reporting and is generally associated with a separate, more advanced model that could include a display and arrive later—possibly in 2027.
The clearest reading of the evidence is simple: Samsung’s first Android XR intelligent eyewear is real; a 2026 Haean launch is not confirmed and currently appears unlikely.

What Samsung has officially announced
Samsung and Google showed two intelligent-eyewear styles at Google I/O on May 20, 2026. The products are being developed with fashion and eyewear partners Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

Samsung describes the glasses as a phone companion rather than a standalone augmented-reality computer. They are designed to connect Samsung and Google services, provide hands-free access to Gemini, and use cameras, microphones and speakers to help with tasks such as navigation, nearby-place recommendations and contextual questions.

Samsung’s official announcement says the first collections are planned for fall 2026 in select markets. It has not provided, in the cited announcements, an exact release date, consumer product name, price or complete market list. The launch window therefore should not be read as a promise of immediate worldwide availability.
Samsung later said the eyewear can provide up to nine hours of active use on one charge. That qualification matters: active-use endurance is not the same as nine hours of continuous video recording, camera use or intensive Gemini interactions.
Samsung has also described privacy hardware. A recording indicator faces bystanders, while an inner LED signals to the wearer when recording is active. Those safeguards may improve transparency, but they do not override local recording laws, venue rules or people’s expectations of privacy.

What “Haean” reportedly refers to
Haean is a reported internal codename, not a Samsung-confirmed retail name. Firmware reporting based on One UI 9 has linked it to model SM-O500. Reports describe it as a more advanced Samsung glasses project, possibly using a micro-LED display.
That display claim has appeared in reporting from Road to VR, Tech Advisor and VR.org. Samsung has not confirmed the display, its specifications or even that Haean will become a commercial product.
Firmware references can show that hardware or software is being developed. They do not prove that a product will ship, that it will retain the leaked codename, or that it will launch in a particular year.
Haean versus the likely 2026 glasses
Reports distinguish Haean from another leaked family known as Jinju, associated with SM-O200-series model numbers such as SM-O200P and SM-O200J. The Jinju reports broadly fit Samsung’s officially described first glasses: camera-and-audio eyewear designed around Gemini and a connected phone.

Samsung has not officially confirmed the Jinju name either. The distinction is still useful because it prevents a common mistake: treating every Samsung smart-glasses report as evidence about one product launching this fall.

- Nearby-place recommendations, such as finding a café.
- Calls, audio and hands-free interaction with phone services.

- Up to nine hours of active use, according to Samsung.
Reported specifications for the first model
Secondary reporting has associated the first-generation glasses with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 platform, a 12-megapixel camera, a roughly 155mAh battery, directional or open-ear speakers and a weight of about 50 grams. Reports also suggest no built-in display.
These are leaks, not final specifications. Samsung could change them before release, and the company has not published the complete hardware sheet.

The recurring Haean hardware claim is a possible micro-LED display. No reliable public specification establishes its resolution, field of view, brightness, refresh rate, optical design, processor, cameras, battery or weight.

A display could support navigation prompts, notifications, translations or visual AI responses, but those are potential uses—not confirmed Haean features. A display also does not automatically make a product full augmented reality. The experience would depend on optical alignment, field of view, latency, brightness, software and battery life.
What Android XR could mean in practice
Samsung’s glasses are part of the Samsung-Google Android XR strategy, with Gemini positioned as the main assistant layer. The platform may provide a foundation for apps and services, but Android XR’s broader capabilities should not be treated as proof that every feature will be available on Samsung’s shipping glasses.
Before buying, readers will need answers to practical questions: which Galaxy and Android phones are compatible, whether a Samsung phone is required, how much processing happens on the glasses or phone, what works without an internet connection, which languages and regions are supported, whether Gemini features require a separate subscription, and whether developer APIs will be available at launch.
Release date, price and availability
For Samsung’s officially announced intelligent eyewear, the only firm timing is fall 2026 in select markets. There is no official Haean release date, no confirmed Haean retail name and no official Samsung price in the cited announcements.

Current reporting more often places Haean in 2027, although some coverage has left open the possibility of late 2026 or simply “later.” That uncertainty is why “Haean arrives this year” is too strong a headline.
“Select markets” is also significant. It does not guarantee availability in the United States, India, the United Kingdom or any other particular country. Prescription support, frame sizes, transition lenses, water resistance, iPhone compatibility and retail channels remain undisclosed.
Samsung compared with Ray-Ban Meta
Samsung’s announced glasses will compete most directly with camera-and-audio products such as Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. Meta has a more established consumer product line, broader existing awareness and a mature social and media ecosystem.
Samsung and Google’s advantage is a different ecosystem: Galaxy phones, Google services, Android XR and Gemini, alongside premium frame partnerships with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Haean’s alleged display could eventually create a more direct comparison with display-equipped AR products, but that is not relevant to the confirmed 2026 launch unless Samsung changes its current plan.
For readers who specifically want visual overlays or a large virtual screen now, display-focused products from XREAL belong to a different category. Samsung’s confirmed eyewear is positioned around AI, cameras, audio and phone interaction.
