The February 16, 2026, Galaxy Buds4 leak was right about the broad design shift: stem-style earbuds, an open-fit standard model and a flatter, horizontal case. Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Buds4 and Buds4 Pro on February 25, with U.S. availability beginning March 11. The story is no longer an ongoing leak; it is a chance to see which details held up and what the AirPods comparison misses.
Why the Galaxy Buds4 looked like AirPods
The leaked renders showed several familiar design choices: stems extending below the earbuds, an open fit on the standard Buds4, and a compact case with a more horizontal profile. The Pro model kept silicone eartips, separating it from the open-fit design. Dummy-unit images also suggested flatter stems and changed case-button styling. Leaked packaging was reported to include a USB-C cable but not a wall adapter; that packaging detail should be treated as a leak claim, not a confirmed universal box-content fact.
The resemblance is a fair visual comparison, not proof that Samsung copied Apple. Both product families use stems, and stems offer a practical location for controls and microphones. The standard Buds4’s open fit and horizontal case make the comparison especially easy to see. Apple’s AirPods 4 are also open-style earbuds with a USB-C case. Samsung, however, describes its own design in terms of fit engineering and a “Metal Bladed” control area; it has not said Apple was its source.
A more precise description is that Samsung has moved toward a hardware language Apple helped popularize: open-fit earbuds, elongated stems and a compact horizontal case. That visual convergence is the hook. The more important product decision is whether you want an open fit or a sealed one.

The official launch announcement and product pages replace the old “expected” specifications with final U.S. details. That matters because some pre-launch figures were off: one report suggested up to 30 hours total battery life for Buds4 and 26 hours for Buds4 Pro, and an IP55 rating for Buds4. Samsung’s final U.S. figures are up to 20 and 22 hours respectively with ANC off, and IP54 for Buds4 earbuds. Buds4 Pro remains IP57. Treat rumor figures as superseded, not as alternative official specifications.
Samsung announced U.S. launch prices of $179 for Buds4 and $249 for Buds4 Pro. Its U.S. store pages show list prices of $179.99 and $249.99, a difference of about $70. Prices, colors and availability can vary by market and retailer; Samsung listed Buds4 in black and white, while Buds4 Pro also had an online-only pink gold option in the U.S. announcement.

Battery figures are Samsung laboratory estimates, not independent test results. Samsung says actual life varies with settings, use, Bluetooth conditions and other factors. IP ratings apply to the earbuds, not the charging case.

The open-fit trade-off is more important than the resemblance
The standard Buds4 is the closer match to the everyday AirPods idea: it sits without a silicone tip sealing the ear canal. That can feel less occluding for people who dislike the pressure of in-ear tips, and it can make nearby voices and environmental sounds easier to notice. But an open fit also offers less passive isolation, fit security depends more on ear shape, and bass or sound consistency may shift with earbud position.
Both models list ANC, but the Pro’s sealed fit has a physical isolation advantage before its electronics are considered. Samsung’s feature listings do not prove that open-fit Buds4 cancels noise as effectively as Buds4 Pro. If you regularly ride planes or loud transit, or want a secure, isolated fit for a noisy gym, consider the Pro or another sealed option. Choose standard Buds4 if low-occlusion comfort and awareness matter more than maximum isolation.

The Buds4 are not simply AirPods with a different logo. Samsung lists Seamless Codec support, including UHQ audio up to 24-bit/96kHz on supported devices and software, plus Auto Switch between compatible Galaxy devices, Auracast, 360 Audio with Direct Multi-Channel, Adaptive EQ, voice and hands-free controls, and Head Gesture actions such as answering calls or controlling Bixby. Galaxy AI and language-translation features are available with supported Galaxy devices. High-resolution audio support is conditional; it should not be read as a feature every Android phone can use.

Samsung gives Android 12 or later with more than 1.5GB of memory as the compatibility baseline, but feature availability varies by device. Its device compatibility guide distinguishes Galaxy phones, other Android devices and generic Bluetooth devices. Basic Bluetooth playback is not the same as access to Samsung’s full set of controls, codecs and integrations.
They are not restricted to Galaxy phones for basic Bluetooth audio, but the Buds4 make the most sense inside Samsung’s Android ecosystem. iPhone buyers should treat them as ordinary Bluetooth earbuds rather than an AirPods-equivalent experience.
Which one makes sense for you?
- Choose Galaxy Buds4 if you prefer open-fit earbuds, dislike silicone tips, value environmental awareness, and use a recent Samsung Galaxy phone. It is the lower-cost option, but not the strongest choice for passive isolation.
- Choose Galaxy Buds4 Pro if you want eartips, a more sealed fit, the two-way speaker system, higher stated water resistance and longer manufacturer-rated battery life. At U.S. list pricing, it costs about $70 more.
- Think twice about either model if you are buying primarily for iPhone integration or expect every Samsung-specific feature to work on a non-Samsung phone. Confirm the particular functions you care about against Samsung’s compatibility guide.
- Think twice about standard Buds4 if you need dependable passive isolation, have trouble keeping open-fit earbuds secure, or assume its ANC will match the Pro.
- Think twice about Buds4 Pro if silicone tips bother you or your priority is a light, low-occlusion earbud for casual listening.
The February leak accurately foreshadowed Samsung’s AirPods-adjacent look, but the launch made the real distinction clearer: Buds4 is the open-fit comfort model, while Buds4 Pro is the sealed, more fully equipped option.
