Samsung’s June 2024 One UI 6 Watch beta announcement was real, but it was a limited opt-in program—not a general update for every Galaxy Watch. The first beta opened on June 12, 2024, initially for eligible Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic owners in the United States and South Korea. The wider stable rollout began later, on November 19, 2024.
The beta is now historical and closed. Here’s what the June announcement meant, how enrollment worked, which restrictions mattered, and what the software added.
What Samsung announced—and when the beta actually arrived
Samsung said the One UI 6 Watch beta would begin in June 2024. The first beta became available on June 12. Those dates refer to a test program, not the public rollout of finished software. Samsung’s June beta announcement and coverage of the June 12 launch described an initial release for Galaxy Watch6-series owners in the United States and South Korea.
One UI 6 Watch is based on Wear OS 5. The beta let selected owners test it and send feedback before Samsung began distributing the stable version more broadly. It did not mean that every Galaxy Watch would receive the beta in June—or that every feature would work on every model.

Which watches and regions were eligible?
The first beta focused on the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic. Samsung’s beta-related information also referred to Watch4 and Watch5-family devices in some later stages, but participation depended on the specific beta phase and exact model. The U.S. beta was initially limited to Bluetooth models; Samsung’s beta team said LTE models were not eligible at that stage.
The initial markets were the United States and South Korea. A watch’s retail name alone was not enough to establish eligibility: sales region, model number, connection type and beta availability all mattered. An imported watch, an LTE variant or a model sold in another market could be excluded even if a similar version appeared on an eligibility list. Samsung’s beta program information notes that compatible devices and periods can vary by country.

The later stable release had a broader reach. Samsung said the rollout began November 19, 2024, for the Galaxy Watch6, Watch6 Classic, Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch4, Watch4 Classic and Galaxy Watch FE. That list describes stable-update recipients, not the initial June beta roster. Actual delivery could vary by market, carrier and model. For eligible owners, registration was handled through Samsung Members, using a Samsung account. The usual process was:

- Pair the watch with the Galaxy Wearable app on a compatible Android phone.
- Sign in to Samsung Members with a Samsung account and look for the One UI 6 Watch beta notice or banner.
- Choose Participate or complete the registration form shown in the app.
- After registration, open Galaxy Wearable and go to Watch settings → Watch software update → Download and install if the beta package is offered.
Samsung Members wording and app layouts can change. These were the steps used during the 2024 program; they are not a way to join now that the beta has ended. Wear OS Galaxy Watches require an Android phone with Google Mobile Services; Watch4 and later are not compatible with iOS. Check Samsung’s Galaxy Watch compatibility guidance and Wear OS setup requirements for device-specific details.
What One UI 6 Watch added
Samsung presented the update as bringing features associated with the Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra to supported earlier watches. Availability was not identical across generations or markets, and some features required compatible phone software, Samsung Health, a Samsung account or particular language and regional settings.

- Energy Score: A daily readiness-style score based on Samsung Health inputs such as sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate and sleeping heart-rate variability. It is a wellness feature, not a medical measurement or diagnosis. Samsung has described its development in its Energy Score announcement.
- More detailed sleep information: Samsung highlighted sleep movement, sleep latency, heart rate and respiratory rate, alongside more detailed analysis. These metrics are intended to inform users, not substitute for clinical evaluation.
- Galaxy AI-related health insights: The update offered personalized health guidance and insights. Availability could depend on the paired phone, region, language, account and app versions.
- Race: A feature for comparing current and previous outdoor running or cycling performance. Samsung’s stated use had limits: comparisons were for the same route and a previous record within a limited timeframe.
- Workout Routine: A way to combine exercises into a customized workout sequence, along with more personalized fitness guidance.
- Interface changes and watch faces: One UI 6 Watch refreshed parts of the experience and added faces, though the exact selection and features could differ by watch generation.
Sleep Apnea is not a diagnosis
Samsung described its Sleep Apnea feature as intended to detect signs of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults aged 22 and older—not to diagnose the condition. Samsung said users should monitor sleep twice over a 10-day period. The feature was limited to specific markets and compatible Samsung phones and watches; it was not intended for people already diagnosed with sleep apnea and does not replace professional diagnosis or treatment. Check Samsung’s feature and availability qualifications before relying on it.

Beta risks: why some owners were better off waiting
Beta software can contain bugs, drain the battery faster, disrupt connectivity, or cause app incompatibilities and missing functions. Samsung warned that unexpected behavior could result in data loss, and a serious installation problem might require service-center help. A beta was a poor choice for a watch someone depended on for reliable calls, notifications, payments, health tracking, work or emergency communication.

Before installing a beta, owners were advised to back up watch data, use Wi-Fi where possible, keep the watch sufficiently charged and update companion apps such as Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health. Even with those precautions, a backup could not guarantee that every setting or item would be preserved. Samsung’s beta FAQ outlined backup and recovery cautions.
If the beta banner or update did not appear
A missing banner did not necessarily indicate a phone or watch fault. Common reasons included an unsupported country or sales region, an LTE model, an ineligible model number, the watch not being paired, enrollment having closed, or an account or app issue. Samsung community beta support specifically cited model type and purchase region among eligibility restrictions.
If registration appeared successful but no update was offered, a measured troubleshooting sequence was:

- Update Samsung Members, Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health.
- Force-close Samsung Members, then reopen it; check the update again in Galaxy Wearable.
- Restart both the phone and watch.
- If the problem continues, clear Samsung Members cache. Clear app data only later, since that can require signing in again.
- Send an error report through Galaxy Wearable or contact Samsung support if the watch remains unstable or unusable.
Leaving beta software or recovering from a failed installation could require a reset and might not preserve all data. Consult Samsung’s beta recovery instructions or support rather than assuming the watch can simply be switched back without consequences.
What happened after the June beta
The stable One UI 6 Watch rollout began November 19, 2024, and expanded the update to Watch6, Watch5, Watch4 and Watch FE families, subject to local and model-specific availability. That later public release is distinct from the limited June test. The beta itself is no longer open, so buying a Galaxy Watch now to get access to it would make no sense; check current support information for the exact watch model instead.
