Samsung began expanding One UI 6 Watch to older Galaxy Watches on November 19, 2024. The update brought selected Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra software features—including Energy Score, expanded sleep analysis and new workout tools—to the Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, Watch6 and Watch FE families. It was a substantial update, but it is not Samsung’s newest watch software generation in 2026, and it does not give older watches newer hardware. Whether a feature appears can depend on your watch, phone and region.

Which Galaxy Watches are compatible?

Samsung listed these models for the One UI 6 Watch expansion:

Model Samsung-listed status
Galaxy Watch4 Supported
Galaxy Watch4 Classic Supported
Galaxy Watch5 Supported
Galaxy Watch5 Pro Supported
Galaxy Watch6 Supported
Galaxy Watch6 Classic Supported
Galaxy Watch FE Supported
Galaxy Watch7 Launched with One UI 6 Watch
Galaxy Watch Ultra Launched with One UI 6 Watch

The Watch7 and Ultra launched with the software; the other seven models received selected features through the later expansion. Samsung said the rollout would start with the Watch6 series and proceed to earlier watches. Availability could vary by market, carrier, model and paired phone, so a listed model might not receive the update at the same time as another.

Samsung’s announcement describes One UI 6 Watch as a watch-specific update built around Wear OS. It is not simply the watch version of the phone-focused One UI 6, and installing it does not make an older watch equivalent to a Watch7 or Ultra.

What changed in One UI 6 Watch?

Energy Score and personalized recommendations

Energy Score combines signals such as sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate and heart-rate variability into an estimate intended to help you understand your readiness and daily condition. Samsung also highlighted personalized Galaxy AI recommendations. These features are best treated as wellness context and trends, not medical measurements. They need enough relevant data to be useful, and some Galaxy AI functions may require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, Samsung Health and a Samsung account.

More detailed sleep tracking

The update expands sleep analysis with measures including movement during sleep, sleep latency (how long it takes to fall asleep), heart rate and respiratory rate. The watch needs to be worn overnight to gather the relevant data. If a night’s results are missing, check that the watch was worn securely, that Samsung Health can sync, and that the phone and watch have connected; do not expect older nights to be recalculated immediately.

Sleep Apnea feature: screening, not diagnosis

Samsung said its De Novo FDA-authorized sleep-apnea feature was becoming available to a wider range of Galaxy Watch devices. It is intended to help identify potential signs of moderate-to-severe sleep apnea, not diagnose the condition. Authorization and availability depend on geography and applicable regulatory approval; the feature is not necessarily offered in every country. A watch result is not a substitute for clinical testing or medical advice. Samsung says its health functions are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate or prevent disease.

Race and Workout Routine

Race lets you compare current running or cycling performance with a previous effort in real time. It is a progress-comparison tool, not necessarily a complete coaching plan.

  • TRACK HEALTH PATTERNS¹ IN YOUR SLEEP WITH VITALS²: Stay aware of the subtle changes in your body with Vitals¹–it tracks health metrics while you sleep, catches shifts from your usual patterns, and provides tailored guidance based on the insights.²
  • A PERSONALIZED COACH FOR YOUR FITNESS GOALS: Whether you're building endurance for a long trek or training to build muscle, Fitness Index³ delivers tailored guidance based on your fitness level goals. Finally, train smarter with your fitness watch.
  • EVERYDAY AI ASSISTANCE, SIMPLIFIED: With the Galaxy Watch9, you can just raise your wrist, start talking naturally and get instant AI assistance⁴—no wake phrase needed. This smart watch won’t slow you down.
  • ONE PERSONALIZED SCORE TO KNOW YOUR HEART BETTER: Instead of checking multiple metrics separately, track the single Heart Health Score⁵ based on sleep time, BMI, activity and vascular load to stay aware of your wellness.
  • TRACK YOUR NIGHTS. OWN YOUR DAYS: Galaxy Watch9 gives you personalized recommendations and habit-building guidance with Advanced Sleep Coaching.⁶ Plus, Bedtime Guidance⁷ helps you find your optimal bedtime so you can wake up feeling refreshed.

Workout Routine lets you combine exercises into a custom sequence and set targets such as sets, repetitions or time. The watch can advance to the next exercise when a target is reached and include rest periods. That makes it particularly useful for people who want to follow a repeatable strength-training session without building each exercise from scratch during a workout.

Double Pinch and other gesture controls

Double Pinch lets you use selected actions without touching the screen, including answering calls, dismissing alarms, scrolling notifications, controlling music and taking pictures. Samsung also described broader universal-gesture improvements for one-handed operation. Available actions can depend on the watch and connected-phone setup; do not assume every gesture works in every app or context.

AI Suggested replies

Suggested replies offer response options for messages. This feature has a significant phone requirement: Samsung’s documentation says replies are generated on the phone and require a compatible phone that supports the function and runs One UI 6.1.1 or later. Updating the watch alone does not guarantee that Suggested replies will appear.

New faces and a refreshed interface

Samsung highlighted the Spatial Number, Simple Digital and Ultra Info Board watch faces. Its firmware notes say these were available through the featured watch-face section of Galaxy Wearable, where you can browse by keywords such as color, style and complications. The update also refreshes buttons, toggles, tile graphics and default typography, bringing the watch interface into closer visual alignment with Samsung phone software.

How to install the update

Samsung’s standard update route is through the paired phone’s Galaxy Wearable app:

  1. Open Galaxy Wearable on the paired phone.
  2. Tap Watch settings.
  3. Choose Watch software update.
  4. Tap Download and install.

You can also check on the watch: open Settings, swipe up, tap Software update, then choose Download and install. The watch still needs to be paired with a compatible smartphone for the update process. Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch support guide lists both paths.

Before starting, charge the watch, keep it near the phone, use stable Wi-Fi if available, and make sure Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health are up to date. Avoid interrupting installation. Sync or back up important data where the app offers that option. These are sensible precautions; they do not guarantee that an update will be offered or install successfully.

Phone and feature requirements

A compatible Android phone is required; Samsung’s support documentation says the update is not compatible with iOS. Some functions have stricter requirements than the basic watch update: Galaxy AI features may need a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, Samsung Health and a Samsung account, while Suggested replies require a supported phone running One UI 6.1.1 or later. Health features may also be limited by country or regulatory status. Do not assume that every feature works just because the watch itself updated.

Samsung’s UK support page gives Android 11-and-later phone support for the Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra, while compatibility can vary across Samsung phone families and models. Do not apply that specific phone list indiscriminately to every older watch or market. LTE service also depends on carrier support and an appropriate cellular plan.

If the update or a feature is missing

If your compatible watch has no update available, that does not by itself mean it is ineligible. Samsung described a sequential rollout with timing differences by market, carrier, model and paired phone. Try these checks:

  1. Restart the phone and watch, then confirm the watch is paired in Galaxy Wearable.
  2. Update Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health, then check Galaxy Wearable > Watch settings > Watch software update again.
  3. Check directly on the watch under Settings > Software update.
  4. Confirm the watch has sufficient battery and storage, and try again over stable Wi-Fi.
  5. If installation repeatedly fails, Google’s general Wear OS update guidance suggests temporarily turning off Bluetooth and retrying over Wi-Fi. That is a general troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix for Samsung-specific problems.

If the update installs but Energy Score is absent, possible explanations include a staged rollout, an incompatible phone, outdated apps, a missing Samsung account, insufficient sleep or activity data, or regional availability. If sleep metrics are missing, check overnight wear, fit and syncing. If Sleep Apnea is missing, geographic and regulatory availability may be the reason. If Suggested replies are missing, check the phone model, AI support, One UI version and connection to the watch.

A watch that seems slower immediately after updating is not proof of a universal performance problem. Restart it, update watch apps through the Play Store, allow syncing and background work to finish, and remove unused apps or faces if storage is tight. Judge battery behavior over several charging cycles rather than drawing a conclusion from the first day.

Is One UI 6 Watch still the latest update?

No—not across the Galaxy Watch range as of August 2026. The expansion discussed here was announced on November 19, 2024. Samsung’s Watch6 Classic firmware record, for example, lists a One UI 6 Watch build released November 26, 2024, followed by later software releases; it also lists a Wear OS 6 release for that model. Software availability remains model- and region-specific, so check the update history for your exact watch rather than assuming every model has the same current version.

For a Galaxy Watch6 Classic, Samsung lists One UI 6 Watch build R950XXU1BXJ5 with an October 1, 2024 security patch. A later listing, R950XXS1BYH1, was released September 2, 2025. These entries illustrate that the 2024 feature update was followed by additional maintenance and software generations; they are not a claim about the newest firmware for every Galaxy Watch.

Should you keep your watch or upgrade?

For owners of a supported Watch4, Watch5, Watch6 or Watch FE that still has acceptable battery life and performance, One UI 6 Watch can add meaningful software without requiring a purchase. It is especially relevant if you want more sleep data, Energy Score, repeatable workout routines, gesture controls or updated faces.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

An upgrade makes more sense if the current watch’s battery is worn out, GPS or sensor performance is your main concern, you want newer processor or display hardware, a feature depends on newer sensors, or you want a longer remaining software-support window. Software cannot add a newer sensor, faster processor, larger battery or different display. The update is not a reason by itself to replace a functioning watch.

Samsung later continued releasing software for supported models; for example, its Galaxy Watch6 Classic update history records One UI 6 Watch and subsequent releases. Check the firmware available for your exact model and market before treating this 2024 expansion as the current software endpoint.
