Samsung’s next major Galaxy Watch update is One UI 9 Watch, based on Wear OS 7. It is already available on the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, which went on sale in the U.S. on August 7, 2026. The unresolved part is the rollout to older watches: a test build has been spotted for the Watch8 Classic, but Samsung has not published a full compatibility list or stable-update schedule.
What One UI 9 Watch is—and what it is not
One UI 9 Watch is Samsung’s software interface for its watches; Wear OS 7 is the underlying Google smartwatch operating system. Samsung’s Watch9 and Ultra2 run Wear OS 7 with One UI 9 Watch. Samsung Health app changes can arrive separately, and Galaxy AI features may rely on a compatible phone, Samsung account, region or supported hardware. An app update alone does not mean a watch supports every new function.
Samsung announced the Watch9 and Ultra2 in July 2026, with U.S. preorders beginning July 22 and general availability on August 7. The Watch9 starts at $379.99 for Bluetooth and $429.99 for LTE in the U.S.; the Ultra2 is $699.99. Which health features are confirmed?
Samsung presents the update as a shift from collecting individual readings toward putting activity and health signals into broader context. These tools are wellness features, not diagnoses or substitutes for clinical advice.

Daily Cardio Load
Daily Cardio Load estimates the strain associated with daily activity. Samsung says it requires a Galaxy Watch7 or newer running One UI 9 Watch or above, Samsung Health version 7.0 or later, a Samsung account and at least seven days of activity records. Samsung recommends 28 days of continuous wear for optimal accuracy. The estimate can also be affected by non-exercise factors such as stress, anxiety or tension; Samsung says it is not a medical diagnostic tool.
Vitals
Vitals combines multiple health signals to give a broader view rather than presenting each measurement in isolation. Initial setup requires wearing the watch for seven of 28 nights. Samsung says Vitals is not intended to diagnose disease or replace professional medical advice.
Heart Health Score
This is a wellness score, not a clinical cardiovascular assessment. Samsung says initial setup takes 24 hours of data, including both awake and asleep periods, and states the feature is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate or prevent disease.

Hearing and sound monitoring
On supported models, sound exposure monitoring must be enabled on the watch: Samsung Health → Hearing → Settings → Sound Monitoring → On. Samsung’s announcement does not establish that every watch receiving One UI 9 Watch will support it, so check the feature on your specific model and in your region. Monitoring exposure is not a guarantee of hearing protection.
Fitness and outdoor tools
Fitness Index and training guidance are part of Samsung’s broader fitness emphasis. The Ultra2 also gets outdoor-focused functions: Trail Run can track elevation, climbing progress and terrain impact, while Nutrition Alert adds hydration guidance to Sweat Loss. These Ultra2 tools should not be confused with software features guaranteed to reach older watches; hardware and model support matter.
What the leaks said—and what remains unconfirmed
AI-generated health reports
A May 29 report attributed to tipster TonySamsunglove said Samsung was testing AI-generated health reports that could identify patterns, predict trends and offer personalized recommendations. That was a pre-release leak, not confirmation of a feature in the final software. Samsung’s public feature information confirms health scores and guidance, but the cited launch materials do not confirm the rumored AI health-report function. Watch faces
A July 6 leak named Analog Balance, Dual Digit, Radial Dashboard and Ultra Performance among faces expected for the Watch9 and Ultra2. The reported designs range from pared-back analog displays to dashboards with widgets for information such as weather, battery, workouts, navigation and health. The report described five faces but did not clearly identify the fifth by name. It suggested most might reach eligible older watches, while Ultra Performance could be Ultra2-exclusive; neither broad availability nor that exclusivity was confirmed. Galaxy Wearable redesign and other rumored integrations
Samsung began rolling out a redesigned Galaxy Wearable app around the new-watch launch. Android Authority reported a cleaner Home screen, simplified navigation, a redesigned watch-face browser and three main sections—Watch Faces, Home and Settings—with battery information and shortcuts to notifications, Tiles, apps and the quick panel. A separate report connected the redesign with possible Galaxy AI functions, AI-generated Tiles, a raise-to-talk Gemini shortcut, Daily Cardio Load, Vitals, Sound Exposure and outdoor tools. Which Galaxy Watches are expected to get the update?
Samsung has confirmed One UI 9 Watch on the new models, but the available evidence does not establish a complete older-watch rollout or a model-by-model feature list.

A test-server firmware build for the Watch8 Classic was reported on August 11 as L500XXU2ZZH2/L500OXM2ZZH2. A test build is evidence of development, not proof of a public beta, a stable release date or final feature support. Rollouts can also vary by country, carrier and model.

No—not on a watch you rely on every day. The Watch8 Classic report warned that the test firmware may contain bugs, compatibility problems and a newer bootloader that could prevent downgrading. Unfinished software can also cause battery drain, inaccurate sensor readings, notification failures or exercise-tracking problems. Wait for Samsung’s official beta instructions or stable update notice rather than installing a leaked build.

Should you buy a Watch9 or Ultra2, or wait?
Keep a recent watch and wait if software is the main draw
If your current watch meets your needs and you mainly want the new health dashboards, faces or interface, do not upgrade solely because of a leak. Watch8 Classic testing is a promising sign, but it does not establish a stable rollout or full compatibility. Owners of Watch7, Watch8 and the original Ultra should wait for model-specific Samsung confirmation.
Choose the Watch9 for the new software in a standard model
The Watch9 is the more straightforward option if you want One UI 9 Watch immediately without the Ultra2’s larger, rugged format. Samsung lists 40mm and 44mm sizes, 32GB storage and a maximum display specification of 3,000 nits. Bluetooth models avoid a separate watch cellular plan; LTE models require compatible carrier service, with support and costs varying by region.
Choose the Ultra2 for hardware-specific outdoor use
The Ultra2 is aimed at readers who value outdoor and trail features, a larger battery and rugged construction. Samsung lists a 47mm case, 800mAh battery, 64GB storage and up to 5,000 nits peak display brightness, as well as specialized diving and trail functions. Those hardware advantages—not just the software update—are the reason to consider it over an existing recent watch.
