Snap’s 2026 AR glasses are real. Officially called SPECS, they debuted on June 16, 2026, cost $2,195, and are available to preorder in the United States, United Kingdom and France. Snap expects shipments to begin in fall 2026. Their defining upgrade is a see-through, 51-degree waveguide display and spatial-computing platform—not simply a better camera pair. This guide reflects information available on August 18, 2026.
What are Snap SPECS?
SPECS is Snap’s consumer-facing AR-glasses platform. It is distinct from the fifth-generation Spectacles that Snap released primarily to developers in 2024. “Spectacles 6” may be used as informal shorthand, but SPECS is Snap’s official branding.
Snap describes SPECS as a wearable computer with see-through displays, onboard processing, machine-learning and AI features, hand tracking, spatial interaction, audio and shared AR experiences. Qualcomm describes the platform as using dual Snapdragon processors, but Snap and Qualcomm have not publicly identified the exact consumer chip model.

Snap’s 2025 platform announcement and its June 2026 launch announcement position SPECS as its first publicly available consumer product in this category. It is preorderable, not yet shipping.

Snap says the 51-degree view can present the equivalent of a 115-inch screen viewed from roughly 10 feet. That is a marketing equivalence, not a guarantee of cinema-quality sharpness or sunlight readability. The public listing does not provide pixels-per-degree, brightness, contrast, refresh rate, binocular overlap or glare data. See the official specifications for the published figures.

- Shared AR: collaborative games and experiences built as Snap Lenses.
These are advertised capabilities and use cases, not independent performance tests. SPECS is designed as a standalone wearable computer, but Snap has not documented which functions require a nearby phone, Wi-Fi, cloud services or a developer-created Lens. Do not assume navigation, translation, AI or streaming works offline.
How different are they from earlier Spectacles?
The fifth-generation Spectacles were a developer-first platform. SPECS adds a larger, more ambitious consumer proposition: a 51-degree see-through display, workstation-style casting, onboard spatial computing and a product intended for ordinary buyers rather than only software teams.
Snap says it delivered 10 Snap OS updates and more than 40 new features and APIs over the previous year and a half, while developers published hundreds of SPECS Lenses. Earlier Lens projects are intended to be compatible, but compatibility is not always automatic. Snap’s migration documentation explains that some projects and features require changes for the SPECS 27 platform.

Are SPECS really lightweight?
“Lightweight” needs context. At 132g or 136g, SPECS are light for a self-contained AR computer containing displays, processors, cameras, microphones, speakers, batteries and optical hardware. They are not lightweight in the way ordinary prescription glasses are.
Long-session comfort will depend on balance as much as the scale reading. Thick temples, processor heat, battery placement and prescription inserts may matter more than a few grams. Snap provides 47mm Narrow and 52mm Wide frames, but virtual try-on requires an iPhone XS or newer running iOS 18 or later and is not a substitute for an in-person fitting.

- Instant Immersion: The lens shade blocks ambient light from entering the lens area of AR glasses, reducing glare and instantly immersing you in a private viewing experience. Whether you're in a bright living room or outdoors, slip on the lens blocker to instantly block out external light. Whether you're watching movies or playing games, you'll enjoy a more immersive visual experience
- Precise Fit: Precisely designed for the RayNeo Air 4/4 Pro, ensuring the light-blocking shield that every curve and the clip fits with the frame. The secure fit prevents sliding and accidental detachment. A fit that goes beyond light blocking to provide protection. Additionally, the raised edge design effectively prevents the frame from being scratched during daily use, serving not only as a light shield but also as a bodyguard for your AR glasses
- Flip-up Light Blocker: The light blocker is equipped with a clip on the nose bridge that attaches directly to your RayNeo Air 4 Pro AR glasses. Only to flip it up when not needed, and snap it down when you need to block the light. So you never have to remove the light blocker from your AR glasses, whether you're in bright daylight or in the dark at night
- Lightweight to Wear: Optimized for extended wear, you'll barely notice the light blocker. Made from ultra-lightweight materials, the weight is minimized, and it doesn't alter the original balance of your glasses once installed. Even after watching a 3-hour movie straight through, you won't feel any pressure on your nose or ears, allowing you to move freely between virtual and real worlds with complete comfort and ease
- Portable to Carry: The flip-up light blocker fits easily into the RayNeo Air 4 Pro's original carrying case, taking up minimal space. Whether you're traveling or taking a quick nap, simply take it out and use it right away. It not only blocks out light but also effectively prevents others from peeking at your screen, protecting your visual privacy
Battery, connectivity and prescription questions
Snap has confirmed a built-in battery, charging case, magnetic five-pin charging and a USB-C streaming cable. It has not published rated hours per charge, charging time, case capacity, replacement policy or runtime during continuous video, AI or display use. Consequently, no credible “all-day” claim can be made yet.
Prescription inserts are planned through a certified third-party partner. The published range is single vision from -8 to +2 diopters; inserts ship separately and are non-refundable. The listing does not confirm progressive, multifocal, prism or every cylinder/axis combination, nor does it provide a final insert price. FSA/HSA eligibility may apply according to the buyer’s benefits provider.
Audio, tint and privacy trade-offs
Open-ear speakers preserve awareness of traffic and conversation, but they can leak sound. Wind and street noise may affect calls, and privacy depends on volume and surroundings. Electrochromic lenses take about 10 seconds to transition from clear to tinted; that is not necessarily equivalent to polarized sunglasses or a fully specified sunglass UV/glare rating.
Best Value
Snap says SPECS include a visible recording indicator and privacy-focused, on-device processing where possible. A light signals camera use but does not settle every privacy question: cameras and microphones can also support sensing, calls, hand tracking and environmental understanding. AI and third-party Lens features may involve networked services. Local law, venue rules, workplace policy and social consent still govern recording.
Who should preorder—and who should wait?
Potentially a good fit
- AR developers building for Snap’s spatial platform.
- Early adopters who specifically want see-through AR rather than camera-only glasses.
- Professionals who value a private virtual display for travel, work or gaming.
- Users interested in spatial games, contextual overlays, translation or navigation.
- Buyers comfortable paying first-generation prices before battery and compatibility details are complete.
Wait or skip if
- You mainly want inexpensive photos, calls and audio in conventional-looking glasses.
- You require verified all-day battery life or immediate delivery.
- You need confirmed progressive or specialty prescription support.
- You expect ordinary-eyeglass comfort or dislike visible cameras and microphones.
- You want a mature ecosystem with extensive independent reviews.
What is still unknown?
Before committing, treat these as open buyer questions: exact Snapdragon models, camera resolution, storage, refresh rate, brightness, battery runtime, charging time, phone and operating-system requirements, offline behavior, final prescription-insert pricing and a firm ship date. The 51-degree display and advertised AI features may be compelling, but they do not answer those practical questions.
Bottom line
SPECS is one of 2026’s more ambitious AR-glasses launches: a genuine see-through spatial computer rather than a camera accessory. The $2,195 price, 132–136g frame and missing battery and compatibility details make it an early-adopter purchase, not an obvious mainstream buy. Developers and AR enthusiasts may find the platform worth the risk; most other buyers should wait for shipping, runtime data and independent comfort testing.
