Yes—Samsung Galaxy Watches can remind you to drink water through Samsung Health. Set the recurring schedule in the Samsung Health phone app, then allow Samsung Health notifications to reach your watch. The watch can also log each drink, but it does not detect hydration automatically.
Quick path: Samsung Health → Water → More options (three dots) → Set target → enable Get reminders to drink water → choose the schedule → save. Labels and available controls can vary by watch, phone, software version, and region.
Before you begin
- Pair the Galaxy Watch with your phone in Galaxy Wearable.
- Install or update Samsung Health (not the separate Samsung Health Monitor app).
- Connect the watch if you expect the alert on your wrist.
- Keep phone and watch notification permissions enabled.
Samsung documents Water as a Samsung Health tracker and says tracker goals synchronize between a connected Galaxy Watch and phone. See Samsung’s Water-tracker instructions.
Set a recurring water reminder on your phone
- Open Samsung Health on the connected phone.
- Open Water. If it is not on the Home tab, customize the tab and add the tracker where available.
- Tap the vertical three-dot More options menu.
- Tap Set target.
- Enter your daily water target.
- Scroll through the target screen and turn on Get reminders to drink water. On some builds the switch is lower on the page rather than at the top.
- Choose the available days, beginning and ending times, and reminder interval.
- Tap Set, Save, or the equivalent button shown by your version.
The wording above matches a recent Samsung Members support solution, but Samsung Health’s interface changes. If you do not see the toggle, make sure you are in Water → Set target, not another meal or health-reminder screen. The intervals offered are version-dependent; Samsung does not publish one universal interval list for every watch and region.

Set the target separately from the reminder
Your water target is the amount you want to record in a day. The reminder is only a recurring notification. Neither measures your actual hydration.
Use a realistic starting target and adjust it with appropriate health advice. Exercise, hot weather, illness, pregnancy, altitude, and fluid in food can affect needs. If you have heart, kidney, or liver disease, hyponatremia risk, or a prescribed fluid limit, ask a clinician before increasing fluids. “Eight glasses” is not a universal prescription.
Can you configure it directly on the watch?
Sometimes. On the watch, open Samsung Health, scroll to Water, and look for Set target, Set cup size, or similar controls. Supported watches can expose the Water tracker, but the full recurring schedule is most reliably found in the phone app. Exact screens differ by model and software.

Log water from your Galaxy Watch
- Open Samsung Health on the watch.
- Tap Water.
- Tap the displayed cup size whenever you drink that amount.
- Use the delete or decrement control to correct an accidental entry, if shown.
- Review the total against your daily target.
Set the cup size to match your normal glass or bottle. Samsung Health may provide presets or a custom amount; a Galaxy Watch user guide also documents changing cup size and the daily target. The controls and units are not identical on every model.
Make the reminder appear on the watch
Samsung Health can generate the reminder on the phone, while Galaxy Wearable controls which phone-app notifications are forwarded to the watch. Delivery is not guaranteed on both devices at the same time.
- In Samsung Health, return to Water → More options → Set target and confirm the reminder is on.
- Check that the current day and time fall inside the schedule.
- Open Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → Notifications.
- Enable Samsung Health notifications (and any relevant category) for the watch.
- In the phone’s system notification settings, allow notifications for Samsung Health.
- Temporarily disable Do Not Disturb, Sleep mode, Theater mode, or other alert-suppression settings.
- Confirm the watch is connected, then restart both devices if necessary.
Samsung notes that notification screens vary by phone, provider, and watch; see its Galaxy Watch notification guide. Battery-saving or background restrictions can also interfere with phone-generated alerts.

If reminders are missing or silent
- Recheck the schedule: turn Get reminders to drink water off, save, turn it on again, and choose a short interval offered by your version.
- Check routing: verify both Samsung Health phone permissions and Galaxy Wearable watch permissions.
- Check connection: reconnect the watch in Galaxy Wearable. Offline or disconnected operation can change reminder behavior.
- Check suppression modes: disable Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Theater, and muted notification settings for testing.
- Update: install current Samsung Health, Galaxy Wearable, phone, and watch software.
- Restart: reboot the phone and watch, then test again.
If the reminder appears on the phone but not the watch, troubleshoot notification routing and pairing first; recreating the water goal usually is not the underlying fix. Community reports describe phone-only and connection-dependent behavior, but those reports are not universal Samsung specifications.

If there is no Water tracker
Open Samsung Health on the phone and customize the Home tab to restore Water, if the tracker is available. Check the tracker list in Samsung Health on the watch, update both devices, and reconnect through Galaxy Wearable if synchronization is failing. A missing tracker can reflect an outdated app, a changed interface, model or regional support, or confusion between Samsung Health and Samsung Health Monitor. Samsung’s watch tile guidance describes Water on supported watches.
Turn water reminders off
- Open Samsung Health.
- Tap Water → More options (three dots) → Set target.
- Turn off Get reminders to drink water and save.
If the switch is unavailable, disable Samsung Health notifications in the phone’s notification settings or in Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → Notifications.

What Samsung’s feature can—and cannot—do
- It can: set a daily goal, issue recurring prompts during a schedule, customize cup size, and record drinks on the watch or phone.
- It cannot: sense how much you drank, diagnose dehydration, or provide individualized medical fluid advice.
- Its limitation: Samsung Health offers simpler recurring prompts than specialized hydration systems. A standard alarm or third-party hydration app may provide more flexible rules, but compatibility, privacy, permissions, and subscription terms vary.
Try the native Samsung Health feature before buying a new watch: an existing compatible Galaxy Watch is normally sufficient for reminders and manual logging. Buying a Watch8, Watch8 Classic, or Watch Ultra solely for water prompts is difficult to justify unless your current watch has broader compatibility or notification problems.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the water reminder vibrate on my Galaxy Watch?
It can, when the watch is connected and Samsung Health notifications are permitted, but vibration and delivery depend on watch sound, vibration, notification, and Do Not Disturb settings.

Can I use the feature without a Samsung phone?
Availability and controls depend on the watch, phone, software, and region. The most reliable schedule setup is in Samsung Health on the connected phone, so a non-Samsung Android pairing may expose different options.
Why do I get the reminder on my phone but not my watch?
Check Samsung Health phone permissions, Galaxy Wearable watch notifications, the watch-phone connection, alert-suppression modes, and battery restrictions before recreating the water target.
Is Samsung’s water target medically accurate?
No. It is a tracking goal, not a diagnosis or prescription. People with conditions requiring fluid limits should follow their clinician’s advice.

Use Samsung Health → Water → More options → Set target to enable Get reminders to drink water, then verify Galaxy Wearable forwards Samsung Health notifications. Log drinks manually from the watch and treat the target as a flexible tracking aid—not a measurement of hydration or medical advice.
