At CES 2022, TCL showed two very different glasses concepts: NXTWEAR AIR, a connected wearable display for films, games and work, and LEINIAO AR, a more experimental full-color Micro-LED AR showcase. TCL gave NXTWEAR AIR detailed specs and use cases; its public description of LEINIAO AR was much thinner. The distinction matters: neither announcement alone proves a product was broadly available to buy.
Two glasses, two different ideas
TCL’s NXTWEAR AIR announcement was dated January 4, 2022; its global CES showcase announcement followed on January 6. The company presented both during its Las Vegas show-floor showcase, but not as equally detailed consumer products. TCL’s NXTWEAR AIR announcement describes a connected display in practical detail. Its LEINIAO AR announcement focuses mainly on display technology and form factor.
There is also a naming wrinkle: TCL’s official material calls the second concept LEINIAO AR. Some coverage called it “Leiniao Air,” but that is not the name used in TCL’s cited announcement.

NXTWEAR AIR was best understood as a wearable external display—not a self-contained AR computer. Its dual 1080p Micro OLED displays were intended to place a large virtual screen in front of the wearer while a connected phone, tablet or laptop supplied the content. TCL described uses including watching films, mobile gaming, remote work and viewing on commutes or flights.

The 140-inch figure is a viewing-scale comparison, not a claim that the glasses contain a physical 140-inch screen. Likewise, the published specs do not establish image quality, field of view or edge clarity in every wearer’s fit. TCL’s weight and comfort descriptions are manufacturer claims, not independent ergonomic testing.
How the connected-display setup works
- Connect the glasses by USB-C to a compatible phone, tablet or laptop.
- The host device supplies the image—and, under TCL’s battery-free description, the power used by the glasses.
- Watch through the embedded displays and use the built-in speakers or headphones for sound.
This setup avoids putting a battery and full computing platform in the glasses, but it makes the host essential. USB-C is only the connector: a phone with a USB-C port is not automatically compatible. The device must support suitable video output, and an adapter may be needed for a source without the right connection. The glasses also draw energy from the host, so long sessions can affect the phone or laptop’s battery.

TCL said NXTWEAR AIR worked with more than 100 smartphones and many laptops and tablets. Treat that as a broad compatibility claim, not a guarantee for every USB-C device; check the exact host model and its video-output support before relying on it. Fit can also vary with prescription needs, nose and ear shape, cable routing and session length.

A virtual screen may be useful for private viewing on a plane or in a shared workspace, but it does not make the wearer invisible to others. Nearby people can see the glasses, and built-in speakers may be audible; headphones are the better choice when audio privacy matters.

LEINIAO AR: a more experimental display showcase
TCL described LEINIAO AR as binocular full-color Micro-LED display glasses using holographic optical-waveguide technology. In broad terms, a waveguide routes display light through the lens area so information can appear in the wearer’s view without using the same enclosed-screen approach as NXTWEAR AIR. TCL called the technology an industry first; that distinction is the company’s claim, not an independently established finding here.
The announcement did not provide the kind of consumer specification sheet TCL supplied for NXTWEAR AIR. It did not establish a retail price, launch date, battery life, field of view, operating system, compatibility list, camera or tracking features. Secondary coverage mentioned possible future functions such as information prompts, photo sharing, smart-connection controls, multi-screen presentation and vehicle interoperability, but those reports should not be read as proof that the functions were shipping or fully demonstrated.

That gap is the key to understanding the pair. NXTWEAR AIR was the more practical connected-display proposition; LEINIAO AR was the more ambitious AR technology showcase. That is an inference from the difference in the information TCL disclosed, not a claim that the latter never became a product.

One secondary report gave NXTWEAR AIR a 130-gram weight, conflicting with TCL’s official 75-gram specification for the standard-lens configuration. The cited material does not resolve the discrepancy, so TCL’s primary figure is the stronger one to use—not a reason to treat both numbers as equally confirmed.

Price and availability: announcement is not a purchase record
The cited official announcements do not confirm a price for either pair. A secondary report said NXTWEAR AIR was expected to reach worldwide markets in the first quarter of 2022, but an expected window is not proof of a completed global launch. TCL also cautioned that product availability could vary by country or region in its CES-related material.
These are historical CES announcements, not evidence of current 2026 stock, official pricing or support. The cited sources do not establish a current official purchase route for either device. Anyone considering a used or remaining-stock NXTWEAR AIR should verify compatibility with the exact host device before buying; the connector alone is not enough. For LEINIAO AR, the cited information does not establish that it became a broadly available retail product.
