Verdict: The Mobvoi TicPods 2 Pro were an inventive, lower-cost AirPods alternative, especially for Android users who wanted an open fit, aptX, USB-C charging and hands-free controls. But they are not the best earbuds for most buyers in 2026. Their four-hour claimed earbud battery life, lack of active noise cancellation and uncertain current availability make them a buy-only-if-cheap option—not a recommendation at anything close to modern earbud prices.
Who should consider the TicPods 2 Pro?
Consider them only if you specifically want a lightweight, open-fit stem earbud, use a compatible Android phone, and find a genuinely inexpensive pair with a reliable return policy. Skip them if you need active noise cancellation (ANC), a secure sealed fit, long battery life or confidence in current app support. For most iPhone owners, AirPods 4 are the more coherent open-fit choice; for Android shoppers who want ANC on a budget, Soundcore Liberty 4 NC is a more current direction.
- Buy only if: the price is well below newer alternatives, the battery condition is credible, and you are comfortable with an open fit and modest runtime.
- Skip if: you commute in loud places, exercise vigorously, want ANC, or would pay near the price of current earbuds.
What are the TicPods 2 Pro?
The TicPods 2 Pro are true-wireless, stem-style earbuds designed to compete with the original AirPods generation, not a complete functional substitute for current AirPods. Mobvoi lists Bluetooth 5.0, a Qualcomm QCC5121 platform, 13 mm moving-coil drivers, IPX4 water resistance, and 4.4-gram earbuds. The case charges over USB-C, but Mobvoi specifies USB-A-to-USB-C cable support and says USB-C-to-USB-C charging is unsupported. See Mobvoi’s TicPods 2 specifications.

Mind the model name when shopping: Mobvoi’s TicPods 2 family includes standard, Pro and Pro+ versions with different specifications. The standard TicPods 2 are listed at up to 23 hours with the case; that is not the Pro’s claim, which is 20 hours. A listing that says only “TicPods 2” may not be the Pro model. Mobvoi’s comparison also lists independent connection for the Pro+ rather than the Pro, so do not assume that feature applies to the TicPods 2 Pro.

Why they once stood out as an AirPods alternative
The familiar stem shape is only part of the comparison. The TicPods 2 Pro combine an open, fixed-earbud fit with touch volume swipes, head gestures and direct voice commands—an unusual control mix for their launch-era price. Their design was described as strongly AirPods-inspired by TechRadar, while SoundGuys’ review noted aptX as a potential draw for Android users.
They also charge through USB-C and are compatible with both iPhone and Android as Bluetooth earbuds. That does not mean the experience is equivalent on both platforms: codec support and ecosystem conveniences differ, and basic Bluetooth compatibility is not the same as feature parity.

Controls: clever, but not essential
Mobvoi’s Tickle 2.0 touch controls let you swipe to adjust volume, with controls customizable per earbud. TicMotion uses head movements such as nodding or shaking, while TicHear offers quick voice commands and the “Hey Tico” wake phrase for a supported phone assistant. In-ear detection and over-the-air updates are also listed. The Mobvoi app is used for updates, control customization, battery information and activation of aptX Audio.

Gestures can be less predictable than a deliberate button or stem press, and voice commands may be less convenient in noisy surroundings. The available specifications do not establish how consistently every control works across current phones and operating-system versions. If you are buying old stock, check that the current Mobvoi app recognizes the earbuds on your phone before relying on its customization or update features.

Noise cancellation: calls, not your music
Mobvoi lists dual microphones with noise cancellation, but its specifications do not list active noise cancellation for listening. Treat the microphone feature as call-noise reduction, not ANC that removes train, plane or office noise from your music. The open design itself provides little isolation, as SoundGuys also observed. They are a poor match for anyone seeking a quieter commute or strong noise blocking.
Sound depends on fit
The 13 mm drivers and Android aptX support look promising on paper, but codec support by itself does not guarantee better sound. Mobvoi lists aptX, AAC and SBC for Android and AAC for iOS, so the aptX option is relevant only with a compatible Android phone. More importantly, an open, fixed-shape earbud depends on how it sits in your ear. A loose fit can weaken bass or make sound seem thin; there are no interchangeable silicone tips to seal or tune the fit. Earlier reviews, including 9to5Google’s review, provide launch-era impressions, not proof that the TicPods sound better than current AirPods.

Comfort and security are personal
At 4.4 g each, the TicPods 2 Pro are light, and the fixed open fit avoids the pressure some people feel from silicone tips. It also lets more surrounding sound reach you, which can be helpful when walking or working where awareness matters. But there are trade-offs: the fit is not adjustable, isolation is limited, and a shape that sits securely in one person’s ears may move or fall out in another’s—particularly during vigorous exercise. Try a returnable pair rather than assuming the AirPods-like shape will suit you.

Battery life is modest—and old stock adds risk
Mobvoi claims up to four hours of playback from the earbuds and up to 20 hours total with the case; a five-minute charge is claimed to provide up to one hour of playback. These are manufacturer figures, not guaranteed real-world results. Four hours per charge is limiting for long listening sessions, and an old or used pair may do worse: lithium-ion batteries can lose capacity with age and storage, even when an unused product is still sealed.

Before buying second-hand or old stock, ask for evidence of actual runtime, whether both earbuds charge evenly, and whether the case and charging contacts work. Prioritize a meaningful return window. The original battery claim cannot tell you the condition of a particular pair years later.
Android or iPhone?
Android: This is the more persuasive case for the TicPods 2 Pro. Mobvoi lists aptX alongside AAC and SBC for Android, and the touch and gesture features offer a cross-platform alternative to Apple’s ecosystem. Still, aptX is one feature, not a reason to overlook age, fit, battery or app compatibility. For a new purchase, compare current Android-focused earbuds before taking a chance on old stock.
iPhone: The TicPods work over Bluetooth and Mobvoi lists AAC support, but they do not provide AirPods-level Apple integration. Current AirPods offer Apple-specific conveniences and features that depend on model and compatible Apple devices. On the U.S. Apple store page retrieved for this comparison, AirPods 4 were listed at $129, AirPods 4 with ANC at $179, and AirPods Pro 2 at $249; these are observed prices, not permanent pricing. These are alternatives for different priorities, not direct sound-test winners. Check current prices, availability and compatibility on the Soundcore Android earbuds page and the Liberty 4 Pro product page. The TicPods 2 Pro’s defining appeal is its open fit and controls; current ANC earbuds solve a different problem.
What to check before buying a TicPods 2 Pro in 2026
- Confirm the exact model. Verify that the listing is for TicPods 2 Pro, not standard TicPods 2 or Pro+.
- Check condition and battery. Ask for real runtime and confirmation that both earbuds and the case charge; sealed old stock is not a battery guarantee.
- Get return protection. A return window matters if fit, battery condition or pairing disappoints.
- Check app compatibility. Confirm the current Mobvoi app recognizes the product on your phone if you need customization, updates or aptX activation.
- Check your cable. Mobvoi specifies USB-A-to-C charging support but not USB-C-to-C; you may need a different cable or adapter.
- Compare the actual price. The Mobvoi U.S. page remains a specifications/support page without an obvious current purchase path or price. Do not use historical launch pricing as a current value benchmark; compare a real listing against newer alternatives.
Final verdict
The TicPods 2 Pro were a clever AirPods alternative for their time, with especially interesting controls and a useful aptX option for compatible Android phones. They remain usable if you find a sound, returnable pair and want exactly their open-fit design. But four-hour claimed battery life, no listening ANC, uncertain app support and old-stock battery risk outweigh the novelty for most buyers today. In 2026, they are a bargain-only recommendation—not the best AirPods alternative for most people.
