The Trivoly 3 was a small, screenless disc designed to sit between a traditional watch and the wearer’s wrist, adding selected phone-connected functions without replacing the watch. A June 2020 Fratello Watches feature described its touch controls, notifications and activity-tracking claims. Those are historical claims, not confirmation that the device or its app is available or supported today; its current status could not be verified.
What was the Trivoly 3?
Trivoly 3 was presented as an accessory for people who wanted some smartwatch-like functions but preferred to keep wearing a conventional watch. Rather than putting a screen on the wrist, the thin disc was intended to attach beneath a watch, against the skin. The watch itself became the surface for taps and swipes.
The idea was a compromise: keep a favorite mechanical or traditional watch visible, while using a phone connection for selected notifications and controls. The 2020 article described Trivoly as a Dutch company founded by Caspar Toornstra. That is historical attribution from the article, not confirmation of the company’s current status.

This describes the reported concept, not an independently verified technical test. The phone was central to the experience: the available coverage does not establish that the disc could operate independently, connect to cellular networks, run apps on its own or provide a smartwatch-style display.

Features reported in 2020
The June 2020 feature said the Trivoly 3 was intended to handle calls, texts and calendar notifications, along with messaging alerts. It also listed step counting, heart-rate tracking and other fitness functions. Named app or service integrations included WhatsApp, Facebook, Uber and Instagram, while music-related compatibility claims included Sonos, Spotify and iTunes.
These are reported or advertised capabilities, not verified present-day integrations. App services, phone permissions and operating-system requirements change, and the source does not provide the requirements or testing needed to establish how well any feature worked. It also supplies no sensor methodology, accuracy results or evidence that the heart-rate feature was a medical measurement tool.

A practical example: remote camera control
One specific use case was taking a photo without touching the phone: the article said the phone could be placed up to eight metres away, with a tap on the watch triggering the camera shutter. That could be useful for a group photo or a phone positioned on a tripod, if the Bluetooth connection, phone software and gesture recognition all worked as intended. The eight-metre distance is a historical product claim, not a verified range under all conditions.
Size, attachment and water-resistance claims
Fratello reported a disc about 30 mm wide and 3 mm thick. It was described as German-made, attached using “Gekko” micro-suction technology, and designed to stay in contact with the skin. The article also called it dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic. Treat the latter as product claims, not a guarantee that every wearer will avoid irritation.

An extra 3 mm beneath a watch can affect more than comfort. It may change how the watch sits, how the lugs meet the wrist, whether the strap still fits comfortably, and whether the watch catches on a cuff. A suction attachment may also behave differently on curved, textured, coated, polished or brushed casebacks, or when exposed to dust, sweat and repeated movement. The phrase “any watch” should therefore be read as an aspiration, not proof of universal fit.
The article gave the device an IP67 water-resistance rating. That rating should not be taken as a blanket promise that it was suitable for swimming, diving or prolonged immersion. The available coverage does not establish water-use guidance beyond reporting the rating.

Why the concept appealed to watch enthusiasts
A traditional watch and a smartwatch serve different preferences. A mechanical watch can carry personal, design or horological value; a smartwatch offers a visible interface, phone alerts and a broad set of connected features. Trivoly’s pitch was to avoid asking the wearer to give up the first in order to gain a selection of the second.
That is a narrower meaning of “more accessible”: easier to adopt for someone reluctant to replace a traditional watch. It does not mean the product was designed or proven to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.

Those are historical 2020 figures, not current prices or proof that orders shipped at scale.
The linked Trivoly website could not be verified as a functioning source for current availability or support. That does not establish that the company is defunct; it means buyers should not assume the product can be purchased, paired with a current phone, serviced or supported. The available material also does not establish preorder fulfillment, app availability, battery replacement or long-term durability.
Who might have wanted one?
The concept could have suited a traditional-watch wearer who wanted occasional phone controls, notifications or a remote camera shutter without wearing a smartwatch display. It was less obviously suited to someone who needed dependable health metrics, standalone GPS or communications, a complete on-wrist interface, or verified ongoing software support.

For those needs, a conventional smartwatch, a screenless tracker worn alongside a traditional watch, a hybrid watch, or phone-based automation may be more practical categories to investigate. Which makes sense depends on whether the priority is full connected functionality, activity data, familiar watch styling or simply a few remote controls; the historical Trivoly coverage does not support a current product recommendation in any of those categories.
