Verizon raised the price of select postpaid smartwatch plans by $5 per watch line on June 3, 2024. The standard Apple and Android smartwatch line went from about $10 to $15 per month before taxes and fees. Verizon still lists $15 as the standard postpaid wearable price; the change is not a new 2026 increase.
The short answer
- Increase: $5 per affected smartwatch line per month.
- Effective date: June 3, 2024.
- Current standard postpaid price: $15 per month per wearable, plus taxes and fees.
- Not universal: Verizon lists separate $10 pricing for prepaid smartwatch service and Gizmo/Care Smart plans.
Verizon support representatives identified the old standard rate as $10 and the new rate as $15. Verizon’s support-community response and its current Number Share FAQ establish the timing and current standard rate. The increase concerned the watch’s connected-service access charge—not necessarily the host phone plan.
Who was affected?
The 2024 change applied to select postpaid smartwatch data plans. Verizon’s published plan materials distinguish among several wearable categories, so $15 should not be treated as a price for every Verizon watch:

- Gizmo and Care Smart: Verizon’s materials list an unlimited option at $10 per month. These kid-focused and care-device plans are distinct from standard Apple and Android smartwatch service.
- Verizon Prepaid: Verizon lists prepaid standalone and Number Share smartwatch plans at $10 per month, plus taxes and fees. Prepaid has different eligibility rules and is not a drop-in replacement for every postpaid line.
- Business service: Verizon Business has separate smartwatch plans and terms; its listed plans show $15 per month. Check the business plan details rather than assuming consumer postpaid terms apply.
Plan prices and eligibility can depend on the watch, account type, host phone plan, and configuration. Verizon’s smartwatch plan page is a useful place to check current consumer options.
How much more could a household pay?
The increase was charged per affected watch line, not once per account. The table shows the arithmetic before taxes, fees, discounts, device payments, or other account changes:

Your bill may show a different net change. Taxes, credits, partial-month prorating, multiple watch lines, or a discount that changed can make the increase appear smaller or larger than $5. Verizon said eligible connected-device discounts would remain and apply to the new price. For example, if an eligible 50% discount applies to a $15 access charge, the service charge would be $7.50 before taxes and fees. What Verizon said was included
In the customer notice reproduced by customers, Verizon said unlimited Number Share plans would include unlimited calling, texting, and data to, from, and within Canada and Mexico. It also said eligible existing discounts would remain and apply to the new price. These are Verizon’s stated terms; whether the international benefit is useful depends on how you use the watch. A customer who never uses cellular service in Canada or Mexico may place little value on it.

Number Share lets a compatible watch use the customer’s existing mobile number. It does not make the watch line free: the wearable still needs its own connected-device service line. Verizon says the watch generally must be on the same account as its host phone and requires an eligible plan and compatible device. See the Number Share FAQ for current requirements.
How to check whether your line changed
- Open your latest Verizon bill or account details and identify each smartwatch line.
- Compare its monthly access charge with an earlier bill, allowing for partial-month charges or credits.
- Check whether the line is standard postpaid, prepaid, Number Share, standalone, Gizmo, or Care Smart.
- Review any connected-device discount or account credit and confirm it is still applied.
- Compare the amount you actually pay after discounts—not just the $15 headline rate—with the alternatives below.
Account screens and labels can vary. If the plan category or charge is unclear, ask Verizon to identify the specific watch plan and explain any changed discount before canceling. Not receiving an email about the change does not by itself establish that a line was exempt.
Could Verizon Prepaid cost less?
Verizon currently lists prepaid smartwatch access at $10 per month plus taxes and fees for standalone and Number Share options, $5 less than the standard $15 postpaid rate. But the lower advertised access price may not be workable for every customer. Verizon’s Prepaid FAQ says smartwatch plans do not qualify for loyalty, Auto Pay, or multiline discounts, and a watch bought from Verizon on a device-payment agreement is not eligible for prepaid service. Prepaid Number Share also has account and operating-system requirements, among other compatibility rules.

Before switching, confirm that your exact watch and phone qualify, that any device financing permits the change, and what happens to number sharing. Compare the full monthly cost after any postpaid discount, not simply $15 versus $10.

When to keep, cancel, or move the watch line
- Keep postpaid service if the watch regularly needs cellular calling, messaging, or data away from the phone, you receive a meaningful connected-device discount, or the current account and device arrangement makes another option impractical. The stated Canada/Mexico benefit may also matter to frequent travelers.
- Consider prepaid if you own an eligible compatible watch outright, want a lower recurring access charge, and can accept prepaid’s discount and account restrictions.
- Consider canceling cellular service if the watch is usually near the phone and Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, notifications, fitness tracking, and other offline or nearby-phone functions meet your needs. Without cellular service, away-from-phone calling, messaging, data, streaming, location updates, and some safety functions may be limited or unavailable. Check the watch maker’s guidance for your model before canceling.
- Consider another carrier only after confirming compatibility and Number Share or equivalent support for your exact watch and phone arrangement. Compare activation charges, taxes, device payments, discounts, and promotions; a lower advertised monthly fee alone does not establish lower total cost.
Moving a line can have complications if the watch has its own number rather than sharing the phone’s number, or if it is financed. Verify the service and financing terms before canceling Verizon so you do not lose connectivity or trigger an unexpected account change.

Why a bill may not match the headline increase
- About $4 more: taxes, credits, discounts, or prorating can reduce the visible net change.
- More than $5: multiple affected watches, new taxes or fees, a lost discount, or an unrelated plan change may be involved.
- No visible change: the line could be a different plan category, discounted, or otherwise configured differently; check the line details rather than assuming the account was unaffected.
- One watch changed but another did not: pricing can differ by line and plan category.
Verizon’s public explanation used broad language about improving its network and services. The cited notice does not establish a specific cost or investment rationale, so there is no sound basis to attribute the increase to a particular expense.
