New Apple Watches are expected in September 2026, but Apple has not announced an event date or confirmed any new model names. The Apple Watch Series 12 is the likeliest launch; an Ultra 4 and SE 4 are possible, not certain. If your current watch works and you can wait, hold off until Apple’s announcement. If you need a watch now, buy based on current needs or a strong verified discount—not on unconfirmed rumors.
When will Apple announce the next Apple Watch?
September 2026 is the most likely window, based on Apple’s fall release pattern and the launch of the current generation on September 9, 2025. That is an expectation, not an announced date. Apple has not confirmed a 2026 event or said when new watches would be available.
Apple announced the Series 11, Ultra 3 and SE 3 on September 9, 2025; preorders began that day, and the watches became available in stores starting September 19. If Apple repeats that schedule, customers could receive new models later in September 2026, but the timing is not guaranteed. Apple’s Series 11 announcement and its 2025 launch availability update document last year’s dates.
- Announcement: When Apple reveals products, prices and details.
- Preorders: When customers can place orders; this may be the announcement day, as it was in 2025.
- Store availability: When orders begin arriving and watches go on sale in stores.
- Software release: A separate date. watchOS updates do not establish a hardware launch date.
Apple has not confirmed any of those 2026 dates.
Which Apple Watch models are expected in 2026?
Reporting points most strongly to a new mainstream Series model. The Ultra and SE successors are less certain. Apple has confirmed none of these products, names or specifications. Macworld’s Series 12 roundup discusses the expected lineup, but it is reporting rather than an Apple announcement.

Apple Watch Series 12: the strongest expectation
The Series 12 is expected to succeed the Series 11 and is the most relevant potential launch for most buyers. Its name and existence remain unconfirmed. No reliable, officially confirmed details establish its design, chip, sensors, battery life, sizes or price, so claims about specific upgrades should be treated as speculation.
Apple Watch Ultra 4: possible, not confirmed
An Ultra 4 is possible. Apple released the Ultra 2 in 2024 and Ultra 3 in 2025, and current reporting includes another Ultra among the possible 2026 products. That pattern does not guarantee an annual update. Do not assume an Ultra 4 will launch alongside a Series 12 or share any rumored Series features.
Apple Watch SE 4: the least certain
An SE 4 is also possible after the SE 3’s September 2025 launch, but it is less certain than a Series 12. There is no official confirmation of an SE 4, its timing or its specifications.

Should you buy an Apple Watch now or wait?
In August 2026, waiting until Apple’s expected September announcement is the safer choice if your existing watch works and you are considering paying full price. You will be able to compare announced products with the current models and see whether retailers discount outgoing stock. The timing and discounts are not guaranteed.
Wait if you can
- You can comfortably go without a new watch for several weeks.
- You want the newest generation or want to compare its confirmed features and price with current models.
- You are considering an Ultra 3 at full price, or upgrading from a working watch.
- You would regret buying just before a new model or a possible price drop.
Buy now if you have a real need or a compelling deal
- You need a watch for training, communication, safety or another immediate purpose.
- Your current watch no longer meets your needs, and delaying would be inconvenient or costly.
- You have found a substantial discount on a model that fits your requirements.
- You prefer a known, available product to waiting for unconfirmed products and features.
Macworld’s July 2026 buy-or-wait guidance likewise favors waiting for buyers near the expected fall launch unless they find an exceptional deal. The decision is not “never buy before September”: a current model can be the right purchase when you need it now or its price is good enough.

Apple’s January 2026 overview lists these models and U.S. starting prices. Actual prices vary by configuration, including case size, material and GPS or cellular connectivity. These are current-generation products, not confirmed 2026 launch prices. Apple’s overview also states the iPhone requirement.

| Model | U.S. starting price | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch SE 3 | $249 | Buyers seeking the lowest-cost Apple Watch for everyday use, workouts and core safety and health features. |
| Apple Watch Series 11 | $399 | Most buyers who want a general-purpose watch with a broader feature set than the SE. |
| Apple Watch Ultra 3 | $799 | Outdoor and endurance users who value its rugged design, larger display, extended battery life and satellite communications. |
The Series 11 offers features including hypertension notifications, sleep score, up to 24 hours of battery life, 5G cellular and more scratch-resistant cover glass. The Ultra 3 adds satellite communications, Apple’s largest Watch display to date, up to 42 hours of battery life and 5G cellular. The SE 3 has an S10 chip, Always-On display, fast charging, sleep score, wrist-temperature sensing and 5G cellular. Apple describes health and connectivity features in its Series 11, Ultra 3 and SE 3 announcements. Availability of health features can depend on region, regulatory clearance and device configuration.
Check iPhone compatibility before buying
Apple says the Series 11, Ultra 3 and SE 3 require an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. If your iPhone does not meet that requirement, check the compatibility requirements for the exact watch and software version before purchasing. Cellular service also depends on a compatible carrier, eligible plan and regional support; verify those details with your carrier before paying extra for a cellular model.
Choose by need, not by rumor
- SE 3: A sensible current option if price is the priority and its features cover your needs. A discount may make it more attractive, but an SE 4 has not been confirmed.
- Series 11: The general-purpose choice if you need a watch now and can get it meaningfully below its $399 U.S. starting price.
- Ultra 3: Consider it now if you specifically need its current outdoor capabilities, satellite communications or longer battery life. Otherwise, waiting is easier to justify at its $799 starting price.
Could current Apple Watches get cheaper after a launch?
They may. When new products arrive, Apple can remove older models from its own store, while other retailers sell remaining stock or offer discounts. In 2025, the new lineup replaced the SE 2, Series 10 and Ultra 2 in Apple’s product range; older inventory could still be found through other sellers or refurbished channels. MacRumors’ 2025 lineup coverage describes that transition.

Software support is a separate question
watchOS 26 was scheduled for release on September 15, 2025, with compatibility listed for Series 6 or later, SE 2 or later and all Apple Watch Ultra models. Apple noted that not every feature is available on every device or in every region. That list does not tell you which watches will support a future watchOS release, and it should not be used to predict watchOS 27 compatibility. Check Apple’s current compatibility information for the software version you need before choosing an older or refurbished watch.
Check used and refurbished watches carefully
A lower-priced previous-generation watch can make sense, but confirm its battery condition, warranty, Activation Lock status, return policy and compatibility with your iPhone and required watchOS version. For a cellular model, check the exact device and carrier compatibility. Do not assume that existing bands fit a future case: verify band and case-size compatibility against Apple’s specifications once any 2026 models are announced.
