Most current NFC-equipped Wear OS watches can use Google Wallet for contactless payments, and selected Fitbit devices can tap to pay too. The watch still needs to meet Google’s software and country requirements, and your bank must support the specific card on that device. Wallet passes—such as loyalty cards and boarding passes—have stricter requirements than payments.
The compatibility rule
For contactless payments on a Wear OS watch, Google’s current requirements are Wear OS 2.0 or newer, NFC, a supported country, current Google Wallet and Google Play Services, and a supported card. The watch also needs official, unmodified software. Wear OS alone is not enough: a model can lack NFC, or its region, software or card may not qualify. See Google’s Wear OS payment requirements.
- Check the exact model: Confirm that its specifications include NFC and that it runs Wear OS, not just a manufacturer’s proprietary smartwatch platform.
- Check your country: Pay on Wear OS is available only in supported markets.
- Check your card: Search Google’s supported payment methods for your bank and card. Phone support does not guarantee watch support.
- Check the software: Keep Wallet and Google Play Services current, and avoid rooted or modified software. Google explains device security requirements here.
Google Wallet is the app and stored-card experience; Google Pay is the payment service or acceptance branding you may see at checkout.
Wear OS watches that support Google Wallet
These are confirmed model families and examples, not a guarantee for every regional variant or configuration. Confirm NFC, software and local availability for the exact watch before buying. Google’s Wear OS catalog lists many of the models below.

Google Pixel Watch
Pixel Watch models are a straightforward choice for Google Wallet. Google’s current US Store lists Pixel Watch 4, starting at $349.99 when checked on August 18, 2026; price and availability can change. The Wear OS catalog also lists Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3. Google says Express pay is available on Pixel Watch 2 and newer eligible devices, with rollout and availability varying. Do not assume that feature applies to the first-generation Pixel Watch. See the US Pixel Watch 4 page and Google’s payment guidance. Pixel Watch setup requires an Android phone; it is not an iPhone-compatible Google Wallet option.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
Compatible Wear OS examples include Galaxy Watch4, Watch4 Classic, Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch6, Watch6 Classic, Watch FE, Watch7, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch8 and Watch8 Classic. This does not include older Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Active2 or Watch3 models running Samsung’s former Tizen platform. A compatible Galaxy Watch is not limited to Samsung’s payment service: it can use Google Wallet when the same software, NFC, country and card requirements are met. OnePlus Watch
OnePlus Watch 2 and Watch 2R are Wear OS examples listed by Google. OnePlus describes the Watch 2R as running Wear OS by Google and advertises contactless Google Pay. Check the exact regional model; do not infer compatibility for every OnePlus wearable from the brand name. See OnePlus Watch 2R.
Mobvoi TicWatch
Google’s catalog lists TicWatch Pro 5, Pro 5 Enduro and Atlas. Older or regional TicWatch models need their own checks for Wear OS version and NFC; the family name alone does not establish compatibility. See Mobvoi’s TicWatch Atlas page.
OPPO Watch and Xiaomi Watch
Google lists OPPO Watch X, Xiaomi Watch 2 and Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro as Wear OS examples. Their eligibility still depends on the exact version, NFC and availability of Google Wallet in your country. Model names and availability vary by market, so do not assume an international model is sold or supported in the US. See OPPO Watch X and Xiaomi Watch 2.
Premium Wear OS models
Google’s catalog also lists the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 42MM Golf Edition and Montblanc Summit 3. Treat these as technically eligible examples only when the particular version has the required Wear OS software and NFC. See TAG Heuer and Montblanc.
Fitbit devices that support Google Wallet payments
Fitbit is a separate platform, not Wear OS. Google lists these Fitbit devices for Wallet tap-to-pay: Charge 3 Special Edition models with NFC, Charge 4, Charge 5, Charge 6, Versa 2, Versa 3, Versa 4, Sense, Sense 2 and Ace LTE. Availability depends on country and card, and the Fitbit compatibility list differs from the one for Wear OS watches. Set up Fitbit payments through the Google Health app; follow Google’s Fitbit payment instructions.
Payments and Wallet passes have different requirements
A watch that can tap to pay may not be able to store Wallet passes. Google’s current requirements are:

Passes may include loyalty cards, tickets and boarding passes. Consult Google’s Wallet passes requirements before relying on a watch for them.

Set up Google Wallet on a Wear OS watch
- Open Google Wallet on the watch and tap Get started.
- Set up a screen lock if prompted.
- Follow the instructions on the paired phone to add a credit, debit or transit card. Adding a card to the watch adds it to the watch; it does not automatically add it to the phone.
- At a contactless terminal, open Wallet and hold the watch face near the reader. Wait for the vibration or sound and blue check mark.
If another payment app is selected, open watch Settings, then Connectivity or Connections, then NFC, and select Google Wallet as the payment provider. Fitbit setup uses the Google Health app instead of this Wear OS flow.
Does the watch need the phone nearby to pay?
No, not after the card has been added to the watch: Google says the phone is not needed for payment. Setup and some recovery tasks do involve the paired phone, and a phone connection or internet access may be needed to complete them. LTE is not inherently required for ordinary contactless payment from a provisioned watch. Google’s Wear OS instructions cover setup and phone-free payments.

Wallet is missing from a Wear OS watch
Check first for NFC and supported-country availability. Then update Wallet and Google Play Services, confirm the watch uses supported official software, and verify that the model’s region has Wallet enabled. Modified software, an unlocked bootloader or missing Play Protect certification can also prevent Wallet use.
Your card works on your phone but not the watch
This can happen because the bank controls support for each card and form factor. Search the supported-methods list for the exact bank and card, look for Wear OS or smartwatch support, and check for restrictions on business or co-branded cards. If it remains unclear, contact the bank using the number on the card.
The card disappeared
Removing the watch’s screen lock deletes Wallet cards for security. Restore the lock and add the card again.
The watch cannot connect during setup
- Keep the phone nearby and turn on Bluetooth.
- Check that the Wear OS app shows the watch as connected.
- Confirm the phone and watch have internet access, then reopen Wallet and retry.
The terminal does not respond
Unlock the watch, open Wallet, and hold the watch closer to the terminal for longer; try a different orientation if needed. Make sure the merchant accepts contactless payments. The NFC antenna is usually behind the display, but its exact location varies by watch.

Apple Watch, Garmin, Huawei and Amazfit watches, as well as legacy Samsung Tizen watches, are not Wear OS watches and do not use the Google Wallet-on-Wear-OS setup described here. That does not mean they lack contactless payments: some support other payment services. Check the manufacturer’s payment options for those platforms.
How to choose a Google Wallet watch
- For Google integration: Consider a Pixel Watch, but confirm regional card support and Android setup compatibility.
- For a Samsung phone: A compatible Galaxy Watch offers Google Wallet as well as Samsung’s ecosystem features, subject to market availability.
- For Wear OS beyond Pixel or Samsung: OnePlus Watch 2/2R, the listed TicWatch models, OPPO Watch X and Xiaomi Watch 2 models are alternatives. Check current regional stock and the exact model’s NFC before buying.
- For fitness tracking and tap-to-pay rather than Wear OS apps or passes: A supported Fitbit may fit; it cannot store Google Wallet passes on the watch.
Before purchase, verify the model, NFC, country, card issuer and the Wallet features you actually need. A compatible watch does not guarantee that a particular bank card will work.
