WHOOP 5.0 was released on May 8, 2025, and is available now. It launched alongside WHOOP MG, a separate premium device. In the U.S., memberships that include the standard WHOOP 5.0 start at $199 per year; the tracker is bundled with a subscription, not sold as a conventional standalone watch. The key question now is which membership—and whether WHOOP’s screen-free, recovery-focused approach suits you.
WHOOP 5.0 release date and availability
WHOOP announced WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG on May 8, 2025, and made them available to purchase immediately. So if you searched because you thought the tracker was still expected to launch in 2026, that date has passed. WHOOP continues to sell and support the 5.0 generation; its firmware release notes include an entry dated July 27, 2026.
WHOOP is a screen-free wearable centered on sleep, recovery, and training strain rather than smartwatch functions such as apps, calls, maps, or music playback. You get the hardware through a membership, and the membership tier affects both the bundled device and feature access. WHOOP’s launch announcement has the original release details.
What changed from WHOOP 4.0?
| Area | WHOOP 4.0 | WHOOP 5.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | Earlier-generation battery performance | WHOOP advertises 14-plus days |
| Size | Previous design | WHOOP says the form factor is 7% smaller |
| Sensing and processing | Previous-generation system | WHOOP says sensors capture data 26 times per second and the processor offers 10 times greater power efficiency |
| Charging | Earlier battery-pack system | Redesigned Wireless PowerPack, which can charge the tracker while it is being worn |
| Tracking and software | Core sleep, recovery, and strain tools | Steps, VO₂ Max, muscular strain, and Healthspan tools are among the additions or expansions |
The size, sensor, processor, and battery figures are WHOOP’s claims, not guarantees for every wearer. Actual battery life varies with use, firmware, temperature, battery age, and charging habits. The PowerPack’s practical advantage is that you can top up without taking the tracker off, helping maintain continuous wear.

Healthspan, WHOOP Age, and training metrics
Healthspan tools include WHOOP Age and Pace of Aging, which interpret a set of physiological metrics in the context of longer-term wellness. WHOOP says the system uses nine metrics and was developed with the Buck Institute for Research on Aging. Treat WHOOP Age as an estimate for wellness feedback—not a medical diagnosis or a literal measurement of biological age, and not proof that a wearable can slow aging.
WHOOP 5.0 also supports step tracking, VO₂ Max, and muscular strain. These can broaden the picture beyond sleep and recovery, but each is a fitness metric within WHOOP’s system. Muscular strain, for example, should not be read as a clinical measure of muscle damage. VO₂ Max estimates can depend on the activity data and profile information available to the system.

WHOOP 5.0 vs. WHOOP MG
WHOOP MG is not simply a software tier or another name for the standard 5.0. It is distinct hardware, bundled with the highest-priced Life membership, and adds cardiovascular features that standard WHOOP 5.0 does not offer.

|---|---|---|
| U.S. membership | One or Peak | Life |
| Standard sleep, strain, recovery, and fitness tracking | Yes | Yes |
| Healthspan features | Included with Peak | Included with Life |
| ECG / Heart Screener | No | Yes, where supported |
| Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications and AFib detection | No | Available where supported and subject to eligibility |
| Blood Pressure Insights | No | Available as a wellness feature where supported |
| Advertised battery life | 14-plus days | 14-plus days |
| U.S. annual price | $199 for One or $239 for Peak | $359 for Life |
ECG, rhythm notifications, AFib detection, and Blood Pressure Insights are region- and eligibility-dependent. “Medical-grade” branding does not mean every feature is cleared or available everywhere, and a wearable is not a substitute for clinical assessment. If you have symptoms or a health concern, consult a qualified clinician rather than relying on a device alert.

WHOOP 5.0 price and membership plans
In the U.S., WHOOP’s current support pricing lists these annual plans. Prices and offers can vary by country, account, and checkout promotion, so confirm the total before subscribing.
| Plan | Standard annual price | Bundled device and highlights |
|---|---|---|
| WHOOP One | $199 | WHOOP 5.0, basic wired charger, CoreKnit band; core sleep, strain, recovery, coaching, VO₂ Max, and heart-rate-zone features |
| WHOOP Peak | $239 | WHOOP 5.0, Wireless PowerPack, SuperKnit band; adds Healthspan, Health Monitor, and real-time Stress Monitor |

WHOOP’s support page also displays a $149 first-year signal for One, followed by a $199 renewal. Treat that as a promotion or account-specific offer, not the standard ongoing rate. The same support documentation lists monthly figures, but monthly signup may require a 12-month commitment and is not available to every account or location. Check the terms shown at checkout.

The hardware is bundled, but the continuing cost is the membership. Compare what you will pay over two or three years—not just a promotional first year—and remember that replacement bands, apparel, and other accessories may cost extra. The membership comparison and pricing support page list current U.S. plan details.
Can WHOOP 4.0 members upgrade?
Yes, but there is no universal free-upgrade promise. WHOOP’s current support documentation lists two routes: extend a membership by 12 or 24 months upfront to receive new hardware, or pay a one-time upgrade fee—listed as $49 for Peak and $79 for Life—while keeping the existing billing arrangement.

WHOOP changed and clarified its upgrade policy during the 2025 launch period after members raised concerns about free-upgrade expectations. Eligibility can depend on your plan, remaining term, older monthly-plan status, country, and whether you are seeking WHOOP 5.0 or MG. Check the upgrade options inside your WHOOP account before paying or extending; earlier launch coverage may describe terms that no longer apply to your account.
You do not have to upgrade immediately: WHOOP says members can continue using WHOOP 4.0. A move to 5.0 is more compelling if you want the longer advertised battery life, your current hardware is deteriorating, or your upgrade terms are favorable. If 4.0 is meeting your needs and you do not want to extend a subscription, staying put is reasonable.
Is WHOOP 5.0 worth buying?
- Choose WHOOP One if your priority is the core sleep, recovery, and strain experience at the lowest standard U.S. annual price, and you do not need the Peak-specific Healthspan and stress features.
- Choose WHOOP Peak if you will use Healthspan, WHOOP Age, the Health Monitor, or real-time Stress Monitor. It is the standard 5.0 tier to consider if those additions matter to you.
- Consider WHOOP Life with MG only if you have a concrete reason to use its ECG and related cardiovascular features and have confirmed eligibility and regional availability. The $120 annual step up from Peak is hard to justify solely by the words “medical grade.”
- Upgrade from 4.0 if the battery or hardware is becoming a problem, you want the newer features, and your account offers attractive terms. Otherwise, compare the cost of a device upgrade with the cost of extending your membership.
- Look elsewhere if you want a one-time hardware purchase, built-in GPS, a display, calls, notifications, apps, or music. Garmin is a better direction for sport-watch functions; Apple Watch for iPhone-centered smartwatch features; Oura for a ring format; and Fitbit for a mainstream activity-tracker approach. Those products use different feature and subscription models, so verify current models and pricing separately before comparing total cost.
WHOOP works best for people willing to wear a screen-free tracker consistently and pay for ongoing coaching and analytics. It is a weaker fit if you want a conventional smartwatch or object to a recurring membership.
