Samsung Watch blood-pressure monitoring is now rolling out in the United States. Samsung began a phased U.S. rollout on March 31, 2026, through the Samsung Health Monitor app. That means older articles and forum posts saying the feature is permanently unavailable in America are outdated—but availability is still conditional on the watch, phone, software versions, region, and rollout status.
Why was Samsung Watch blood-pressure monitoring unavailable in the U.S.?
The main issue was regulatory positioning, not simply missing hardware. Samsung had offered blood-pressure monitoring in selected international markets, but its documentation says Samsung Health Monitor features can depend on country-specific approval or registration as medical devices.
When the Galaxy Watch4 launched in 2021, Samsung explicitly said blood-pressure monitoring was unavailable in the U.S. (Samsung’s 2021 announcement). It is too simplistic to say that “the FDA blocked Samsung Watch.” Blood-pressure products marketed in the U.S. face requirements related to intended use, clinical performance, and device authorization. The FDA warns against unauthorized blood-pressure devices, and its January 2026 document on cuffless blood-pressure devices is draft guidance—not a direct explanation of Samsung’s launch timeline.
Samsung ultimately brought a U.S. version to market as a wellness feature with prominent limitations: it requires calibration against an upper-arm cuff, requires recalibration every 28 days, and is not intended to diagnose or treat disease.

Is it FDA-cleared?
Samsung’s U.S. announcement identifies FDA clearance or authorization for other Galaxy health functions, including ECG-related features and sleep-apnea detection. It does not present the blood-pressure function as FDA-cleared in the same way.
The U.S. blood-pressure feature is framed as wellness monitoring rather than a diagnostic medical device. A report by Android Authority quoted Samsung describing it as not intended for medical use. That distinction matters: availability does not make a watch reading clinically equivalent to a validated upper-arm monitor.
How Samsung Watch blood-pressure monitoring works
The watch does not inflate a cuff or independently measure pressure in the conventional way. Samsung says it uses the watch’s heart-rate sensors to estimate systolic and diastolic pressure after the watch has been calibrated against a separate upper-arm cuff.

In practical terms, it is a calibrated estimate and trend-tracking tool, not a calibration-free blood-pressure monitor. The cuff supplies the reference readings; the watch estimates later readings using that user-specific calibration.
Compatibility requirements in the U.S.
- Watch: Galaxy Watch4 or a later released model. Galaxy Fit devices are excluded.
- Watch software: Wear OS 4.0 or later.
- Phone software: Android 12 or later.
- Phone: A compatible Samsung Galaxy phone is required for Samsung Health Monitor.
- Region: The watch and phone must have been purchased in a supported country or region.
- Rollout: Samsung’s release is phased, so eligible owners may not receive the feature simultaneously.
Samsung’s current U.S. announcement identifies the feature on Galaxy Watch4 and later models, including the Watch8 family, when the software and phone requirements are met. See the Samsung U.S. announcement for the stated requirements.
How to set it up
Samsung’s setup path is:
- Pair the compatible Galaxy Watch with a compatible Galaxy phone.
- Open Samsung Health Monitor on the phone.
- Select Blood pressure.
- Tap Calibrate the watch.
- Using a separate upper-arm cuff, take three blood-pressure readings within 30 minutes and enter them when prompted.
- Remain still, avoid talking, and follow the app’s positioning instructions.
- After calibration, open Samsung Health Monitor on the watch.
- Tap Blood pressure, then Measure.
The cuff is sold separately. Samsung requires recalibration every 28 days. Full instructions are available in Samsung’s U.S. support guide.

How accurate is it?
Do not treat one watch result as a diagnosis. Accuracy depends on the original cuff calibration, the condition of the user, and consistent measurement technique.

For the most repeatable readings, Samsung instructs users to:
- Avoid smoking, bathing, exercise, alcohol, and caffeine for at least 30 minutes beforehand.
- Rest for at least five minutes before measuring.
- Sit with the back supported and feet flat on the floor.
- Keep the legs uncrossed and the arm supported on a table.
A single result is only a spot estimate. Repeated readings taken under similar conditions can be more useful for tracking a trend, but the watch remains supplementary. When a number matters medically, confirm it with a conventional upper-arm monitor and discuss concerning results with a qualified healthcare professional.

What it cannot do
- It does not diagnose hypertension.
- It does not replace a doctor or a validated upper-arm cuff.
- It is not designed to detect a heart attack.
- It should not be used to change medication without medical advice.
- It may be a poor sole monitor for someone with diagnosed hypertension or cardiovascular disease.
Samsung says the feature is not intended to diagnose, prevent, treat, or mitigate disease. Those limitations are central—not merely legal fine print.

If you are in the U.S. and cannot find Blood pressure in Samsung Health Monitor, check these in order:
- Confirm that the watch is a Galaxy Watch4 or newer, not a Galaxy Fit.
- Check that the watch runs Wear OS 4.0 or later.
- Check that the phone runs Android 12 or later.
- Make sure the phone is a compatible Samsung Galaxy model.
- Update Samsung Health Monitor on both devices, along with the watch software.
- Check whether the watch or phone was imported from an unsupported market.
- Consider whether Samsung’s phased rollout has reached your device and account.
- Check calibration status. An expired 28-day calibration must be renewed with the cuff.
Samsung also warns that country restrictions can affect service after travel, a factory reset, or reinstalling the app. If the feature worked abroad and disappeared after returning to the U.S., regional device and app restrictions may be responsible. Sideloading an international Samsung Health Monitor package is not an official U.S. solution and can create compatibility, update, account, warranty, and safety problems.

Is it worth using?
For an existing Galaxy Watch owner, the feature can be useful for occasional readings and longer-term wellness trends—provided the user is willing to maintain a separate upper-arm cuff and recalibrate monthly.
It is a poor fit for anyone expecting passive, continuous monitoring, a diagnostic hypertension alert, or a replacement for medically dependable home measurements. Someone buying a watch primarily for blood-pressure management should prioritize a validated, FDA-authorized upper-arm monitor instead. A Galaxy Watch can then serve as a convenience layer, not the reference instrument.
A dedicated connected blood-pressure monitor is also the better choice for users who need to log readings, share them with a clinician, or make treatment decisions. The FDA’s blood-pressure device safety guidance is a useful starting point when evaluating such equipment.
