Xiaomi launched the MITU Children’s Learning Watch 5X in China on July 20, 2021. The 4G children’s watch combined advertised 12-layer safety positioning and 3D floor positioning with a 5-megapixel front camera, an 8-megapixel side camera, a 1.52-inch display, children’s WeChat and QQ, and a 900mAh battery. China presale pricing was 579 yuan, against a stated regular price of 599 yuan. There is no verified evidence of an official international launch or current 2026 stock for this model.

What the dual cameras were designed to do
Front camera for calls
The 5MP front-facing camera was intended for video calls and for seeing the child during a conversation.
Side camera for surroundings
The 8MP side camera was intended to show the child’s surroundings. Reports describe autofocus on this camera. A three-axis gyroscope and electronic image stabilization were also reported for video recording.

Those numbers do not establish smartphone-level image quality. The available launch coverage does not provide video resolution, frame rate, low-light results, image samples, or independent stabilization testing. Two cameras also increase the privacy implications of a device worn by a child.
Positioning: 12 layers and floor detection
MITU promoted the 5X with “12-fold” safety positioning, dynamic positioning and 3D floor positioning. The floor feature was intended to estimate which level of a building a child occupies, addressing a problem ordinary outdoor GPS cannot solve well.
These are product claims, not a guarantee of an exact real-time location. Performance can vary with cellular service, available positioning signals, building materials, layout, refresh settings and the parent application. Parents should treat the feature as an aid to locating a child, not a substitute for supervision or an emergency-response system.

The watch was reported to support 4G “full Netcom,” audio and video calls, friend adding, children’s WeChat and children’s QQ. “Children’s WeChat” does not mean the full smartphone application, and the reports do not establish support for Western app stores, English software, or non-Chinese account systems.

“Full Netcom” is a China-market description. It does not prove that the watch supports LTE bands, carrier provisioning or activation in the United States, Europe or another country. A buyer importing one would need to confirm those points with the carrier and the current MITU service before paying.
Screen, glass and water resistance
Display protection
The reported 1.52-inch 360 × 400 display exceeds 355 pixels per inch and is covered by Gorilla Glass 3. Launch coverage also cited 7H hardness. Gorilla Glass can improve scratch resistance, but neither it nor a hardness number makes a child’s watch impact-proof or immune to scratching.
What 2ATM means
The watch was advertised as 2ATM water resistant, described in launch coverage as pressure equivalent to less than roughly 20 metres under controlled conditions. That is not the same as permission to dive or to use it in every swimming situation. Hot showers, high-pressure jets, seawater, prolonged submersion and liquid-damage warranty treatment require the model’s actual manual and warranty terms. A reported drainage function may help after exposure but does not change the rating.
Battery claims and practical runtime
The 900mAh battery was associated with claimed endurance of up to six days on standby, about three to four days with standard use and about one to two days with heavy use. These figures were launch claims, not independently verified measurements.

Frequent location updates, 4G calls, video calls, camera recording, high brightness, weak signal conditions and low temperatures can all reduce runtime. Families relying on continuous tracking or regular video calls should plan for charging more often than the standby figure suggests.
Price and availability
China pricing was announced at 599 yuan, with a 579-yuan presale (a 20-yuan reduction) through Xiaomi Youpin. Any dollar conversion from 2021 is only an approximate historical exchange-rate comparison, not a U.S. retail price.
The evidence documents a China presale, not an international release. No verified official U.S., European or other overseas listing, English-language support commitment, international warranty or current 2026 inventory has been established for the MITU Children’s Learning Watch 5X. Gray-market listings may exist, but buyers should regard activation, LTE compatibility, language, app pairing, cloud-service access and warranty coverage as unresolved until confirmed for the exact unit.

Location history, live camera views, audio and video calls, contacts and account data create a substantial privacy and security surface. Before deployment, parents should check who may contact the watch, which accounts can view location or camera feeds, what permissions the parent app requests, how recordings are stored, and how an account can be deleted.

Xiaomi has published a MITU children’s information-protection document, dated 2021. It is broader children’s-watch documentation and does not, by itself, establish that every policy detail applies to the 5X or remains current in 2026. Use strong parent-account credentials and obtain the child’s consent appropriate to their age and circumstances.
Who the 5X suited in its original market
Potentially suitable
- Families in China wanting watch-based calling and child-oriented messaging.
- Parents who value advertised indoor and floor-positioning features.
- Users comfortable with Xiaomi/MITU accounts, services and a China cellular plan.
Poor fit without further verification
- Buyers requiring confirmed U.S. or European carrier support.
- Families needing an English interface or globally supported parent app.
- Anyone seeking current official stock, international warranty service or independently tested camera and tracking performance.
Do not confuse it with Huawei’s Kids Watch 5X
Huawei also sells a product called Kids Watch 5X, but it is a different watch with different hardware, software and pricing. Huawei’s China page lists that model from ¥1,598: official product page. The shared “5X” name is not evidence that the two devices are related or interchangeable.
Verdict
The MITU Children’s Learning Watch 5X was notable at its 2021 China launch for combining two cameras, child-focused communications, a large 900mAh battery and ambitious indoor-positioning claims at 579 yuan presale. For an international buyer in 2026, the central question is not whether the specification list sounds capable; it is whether the watch can still be activated, supported and serviced in that buyer’s country. Those regional, software and availability questions remain unverified.
