Xiaomi’s Mitu Kids Watch 7A is a China-market children’s cellular smartwatch launched in June 2024. It combines 4G calling, HD video calling through a 2MP camera, location monitoring, geofencing, child-focused activity features and a 950mAh battery. Its launch price was 349 yuan, but international buyers should treat carrier, app, language and activation support as unresolved until verified for their country.

These specifications come from launch reporting and Xiaomi’s China product listing. The publicly available material does not amount to a complete, independently tested specification sheet.
Price and availability
Xiaomi announced the 米兔儿童电话手表7A, or Mitu Kids Watch 7A, in China in June 2024. Pre-orders were scheduled to open on July 1 at 10:00 a.m. China Standard Time, with an introductory price of 349 yuan. That was approximately US$48 at the time, but it should not be treated as a current U.S. retail price. Launch coverage and secondary reporting both identify China as the launch market.

Xiaomi’s China shopping pages continue to identify the model. A shopping-list signal observed on August 18, 2026 showed a 349-yuan price with a coupon against a 399-yuan reference price, but that may reflect a promotion or account-specific offer rather than a stable current MSRP. Buyers should verify the final price, delivery area, return terms and warranty at checkout.

What the Mitu Kids Watch 7A is designed to do
This is not a general-purpose Xiaomi Watch or a Wear OS smartwatch. It is a child-oriented 4G phone-watch designed to let parents call, video-call and locate a child without giving them a full smartphone.
The core functions are 4G voice calling, video communication, location monitoring, safety alerts and basic activity tracking. Reported software features include school-related controls, scheduling, exercise guidance, Micro Chat, Xiao Ai child-oriented assistant integration and Alipay functions with payment limits and parental controls. Those extras are heavily tied to the Chinese Xiaomi ecosystem and should not be assumed to work in other regions or languages.
4G calling and video communication
The watch supports 4G voice calling and HD video calling through a front-facing 2MP camera. Xiaomi describes the camera as having a wider field of view, allowing a caller to see more of the child’s surroundings.

The available launch information does not specify video resolution, frame rate, bitrate or latency, and there is no independent test here of microphone quality, speaker volume or call reliability. Poor cellular coverage can affect both voice and video calls.
The camera also creates a privacy issue. A child may wear it into school, another family’s home or other spaces where cameras are restricted. Parents should check school rules and teach the child when video calling or showing the surroundings is inappropriate.
Location tracking and safety features
Xiaomi promotes a nine-layer security positioning system with AI-assisted positioning intended to improve location accuracy, including indoors. Launch materials also claim coverage involving more than 4,000 major shopping centres and train stations. The watch can reportedly store up to 90 days of location history, alert parents when a child enters or leaves preset areas such as home or school, and notify them about unexpected route changes.

These are useful monitoring features, but the important distinction is between a product claim and a measured result. No independent evidence in the available material establishes the watch’s location accuracy, update latency, false-alert rate or indoor performance.

Location history and alerts should supplement supervision, not replace it, emergency services or a child’s own judgment.
Battery, display and physical specifications
The reported hardware is modest but appropriate to the watch’s narrow purpose: a 1.4-inch TFT display, 48MB of RAM, 256MB of storage and a 950mAh battery. Xiaomi highlights a low-power chip and power-saving optimisation, while launch reporting suggests extended or full-day use.
There is no standardised endurance result in the supplied evidence. Actual runtime will vary with cellular reception, location-refresh frequency, video calls, screen brightness, notifications, temperature and background synchronisation. A 950mAh capacity is a hardware specification, not a promise of a particular number of hours.
Water resistance: do not read “20 metres” as a swimming rating
The Mitu Kids Watch 7A is advertised as having 20-metre water resistance. That wording is easy to overinterpret. A retailer listing for the model warns against showering, swimming, diving and high-speed water, and notes that resistance can decline with ordinary wear. That is retailer guidance rather than a retrieved Xiaomi manual, but it is the safer practical interpretation.
Treat the watch as suitable for ordinary splashes and everyday water exposure unless official regional documentation explicitly permits swimming. Do not assume that a child can wear it in a pool or use the 20-metre figure as a diving-depth rating.

Does it work outside China?
This is the biggest reason to hesitate over an import. Launch information identifies support for China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom. That does not establish compatibility with AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Canadian networks or European carriers.
The available material does not provide a complete LTE band list, confirm VoLTE behaviour, establish roaming support or prove that the watch is unlocked. A compatible physical SIM alone may not be enough: activation, account region, firmware, phone-number requirements and Xiaomi’s parent app may also be region-specific.
Xiaomi’s current global watch catalogue lists a different product called the Xiaomi Smart Kids Watch; that should not be confused with the China-market Mitu Kids Watch 7A. There is no verified evidence in the supplied sources of an official U.S. launch, U.S. carrier certification or guaranteed international operation.

- Confirm the exact model number and regional firmware.
- Obtain the supported LTE bands and compare them with the intended carrier.
- Ask whether VoLTE, SIM activation and emergency calling work on that network.
- Check whether the Xiaomi Kids or Mitu app is available in the local app store.
- Confirm the required Xiaomi account region, phone number and language.
- Verify warranty, repair, returns and replacement options.
- Confirm that payment, assistant and location services are available locally.
Privacy questions parents should ask
Xiaomi’s launch material refers to multiple layers of encryption and parent controls over third-party application permissions. That is useful, but “encrypted” does not answer every privacy question created by a child’s connected camera and tracker.
Xiaomi’s broader Mitu children’s-watch privacy documentation provides ecosystem context and discusses information such as device and SIM details, location records, communications, device identifiers and firmware information. It should not be treated as the complete, 7A-specific privacy policy.

- Which accounts can view location history or communicate with the child.
- Where location, voice, text, image and video data are stored.
- How long records are retained and whether parents can delete them.
- What happens if the watch or parent phone is lost.
- Whether Alipay, Xiao Ai and other third-party services can be disabled.
- Whether the child’s school permits cellular cameras or recording-capable wearables.
Likely setup process
Xiaomi’s general pairing instructions for its Smart Kids Watch—not explicitly for the Mitu 7A—show the likely workflow: install the Xiaomi Kids app, insert a Nano-SIM, power on the watch, choose My → Add a device, scan the QR code shown on the watch, approve the binding request and enter the child’s information. Because that support page is for a different product, buyers should not assume every step is 7A-specific.

Common problems and practical fixes
The watch powers on but will not connect
Check carrier and LTE-band support first, then confirm that the SIM is active and works in another compatible phone. Other possibilities include weak indoor coverage, VoLTE incompatibility, region-locked services or a requirement for a China-issued account or number. A working SIM does not prove that the parent app will bind successfully.
Location is inaccurate
Indoor obstructions, weak satellite visibility, sparse Wi-Fi or venue data, delayed network updates, power-saving behaviour and an overly narrow geofence can all contribute. AI-assisted positioning cannot guarantee precision in every building or neighbourhood.
The battery drains quickly
Frequent location refreshes, long video calls, poor cellular reception, heavy screen use, notifications and hot or cold conditions can all reduce runtime. There is no reliable exact runtime figure in the available evidence.
Water damage occurs
Do not interpret the 20-metre label as permission for swimming, showering or diving. Remove the watch around pools and high-pressure water unless Xiaomi’s official documentation for the relevant region says otherwise.
Verdict
The Mitu Kids Watch 7A is an appealingly inexpensive China-market children’s phone-watch on paper. Its combination of 4G calling, video communication, geofencing, location history, exercise tools and a large reported battery addresses the practical needs of families who already use Xiaomi’s Chinese ecosystem.
For buyers outside China, however, the low launch price is not enough. Carrier bands, VoLTE, activation, app availability, account region, language, warranty and privacy terms all need to be checked before purchase. The watch is worth considering for China-based families or technically confident importers who verify every dependency. It is not a straightforward, verified U.S. or global alternative based on the available evidence.
