The March 2024 radio-certification reports were an early sign that Xiaomi was preparing new wearables, but they did not confirm the products’ names, features or launch date. Xiaomi later released the Xiaomi Smart Band 9, including an NFC edition in some markets. Here is what the listings established—and what the finished band actually offers.
What the March 2024 certification reports showed
On March 11, 2024, GizmoChina reported that Xiaomi-associated model numbers M2345B1 and M2346B1 had appeared in China’s radio-certification process. The records indicated wireless-enabled products were progressing through a regulatory step; they were not a Xiaomi product announcement and did not disclose retail specifications. GizmoChina’s March 11 report and a TechRadar report the following day treated the Band 9 connection as an expectation, not confirmed product identification.
- Established by the reports: the two model numbers were associated with Xiaomi radio-certification filings.
- Reasonable inference at the time: they belonged to a forthcoming Xiaomi Band 9 family.
- Not established by those filings: which model was standard or NFC, whether either was a Pro model, or the products’ names, specifications, price and release date.
Contemporary coverage proposed that the pair might represent standard and NFC versions, while leaving open other possibilities. Certification is a regulatory milestone, not a launch calendar; it could suggest a product was moving toward release without saying when consumers could buy it.
Did more certifications mean a global launch was certain?
Later April coverage reported model M2345B1 in Singapore’s IMDA database, UAE TDRA records and Indonesia’s telecommunications certification database. Those reports made a multi-market release seem more plausible, but they did not guarantee a retail launch in every country. A regulator can record radio equipment without identifying the consumer-facing name or confirming local store availability. XiaomiToday’s report on the additional listings describes them as certification records, not a global sales announcement.

What Xiaomi ultimately released
Xiaomi’s global product documentation identifies the released product as the Xiaomi Smart Band 9. Its specifications page lists a 1.62-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 192 × 490 resolution and adjustable brightness up to 1,200 nits, a 233mAh battery, magnetic charging, and 5ATM water resistance. The band weighs 15.8g without its strap; listed dimensions are 46.53 × 21.63 × 10.95mm, excluding the strap and protrusions. It is compatible with Android 8.0 or later and iOS 12.0 or later. Battery claims depend on the usage profile
Xiaomi’s specifications page states up to 21 days of typical use. Its support documentation gives a lower estimate of up to 18 days in typical mode and up to 8 days with Always-On Display enabled. These are Xiaomi estimates under different usage profiles, not a guaranteed runtime for every owner; settings and use affect endurance. Tracking and everyday functions
Xiaomi lists heart-rate, blood-oxygen, sleep and stress monitoring, breathing exercises, women’s health features and vitality scores, alongside running courses and 159 sports modes. Other functions include music playback controls, phone-finding, weather, calendar, alarms, stopwatch, timer, flashlight and Pomodoro tools. The band supports Always-On Display, pebble mode and necklace mode. These are fitness and wellness functions, not medical diagnosis or treatment. Xiaomi’s feature FAQ lists the supported functions; availability can vary by platform.
Standard Smart Band 9 or NFC edition?
The NFC version is a distinct edition, not a feature to assume is present on every global Smart Band 9. Xiaomi describes NFC functions such as supported public-transport cards and access-card simulation, but use depends on region, card system and local reader. NFC hardware alone does not mean the band can make universal contactless bank-card payments.

Xiaomi warns that encrypted cards may not be fully usable, and bank cards, stored-value cards and some transit cards may not be supported for simulation. Even when a card can be copied, a building or transit reader may reject it. Check the exact regional model and your issuer or property-management system before buying. Phone compatibility and the app
The Smart Band 9 uses Mi Fitness and does not pair with Zepp Life, according to Xiaomi’s compatibility FAQ. Xiaomi lists Android 8.0 or later and iOS 12.0 or later. Its regional documentation differs on Bluetooth: the global FAQ lists Bluetooth 5.1 compatibility, while a UK comparison page lists Bluetooth 5.4 dual-mode Bluetooth. Check the product information for the specific regional model rather than treating either figure as universal. Xiaomi’s UK comparison also compares the Band 9 with the Band 8.

Xiaomi’s UK comparison gives the following headline figures. Battery durations are manufacturer estimates, not independent measurements.

Those figures indicate an incremental fitness-band upgrade, not a change into a full smartwatch. The Band 9 is suited to activity and wellness tracking, notifications and basic phone controls; Xiaomi’s cited global specifications do not list built-in GPS. Anyone who needs standalone cellular service, a broad third-party app ecosystem, wrist-based calling or advanced navigation should compare smartwatch options instead. For medical decisions, use appropriate medical equipment rather than relying on a fitness band’s sensor readings.

What to check before buying now
- Local edition: verify whether the standard or NFC model is actually sold in your country. A global product page does not establish local stock or availability of every edition, color or accessory.
- NFC compatibility: confirm support for your specific transit or access-card system; do not buy on the assumption of universal payments.
- Phone and app: check that your phone meets the operating-system requirement and that you are willing to use Mi Fitness rather than Zepp Life.
- Battery expectations: treat “up to” figures as scenario-dependent estimates; Always-On Display and frequent tracking or notifications can reduce runtime.
- Model fit: confirm that any strap or charging accessory is for the standard Band 9, not a Pro or another generation.
Xiaomi’s global catalog now includes newer bands, including Band 10 and Band 9 Pro listings, but model names do not establish local availability or value. Compare your country’s official product page and current price before choosing between generations: Xiaomi’s global bands catalog.
