Xiaomi’s Mitu Kids Learning Watch 7 and 7X launched in mainland China on March 28, 2024, at original prices of ¥799 and ¥599, respectively. Both combine child-oriented calling and messaging, video calls, location features and 20-meter water resistance; the pricier Watch 7 adds memory and wellness-monitoring functions. These are China-market models, and their launch prices do not establish today’s price or availability.
What are the Mitu Kids Watch 7 and 7X?
These are Xiaomi’s mainland-China children’s learning and communication watches, rather than conventional fitness watches. Their advertised functions combine cellular communication, parent-oriented location tools, video calling, child/watch editions of social apps, sports features and learning content. Launch coverage names child versions of WeChat and QQ, Xiaomi’s Xiao Ai assistant, and an app store on both models. IT Home’s March 2024 launch report describes the watches and their original specifications.
“Supports WeChat” should not be read as a promise of the full smartphone WeChat experience. The reported support is for the children’s/watch edition. Account linking, contact approval, app availability and service compatibility may depend on Xiaomi’s China-region setup; the launch reports do not fully document those requirements.

The 7X went on sale before the Watch 7. Xiaomi’s China purchase page for the 7X is the place to check for a current listing, price and stock. Later China retailer promotions have advertised lower 7X prices using time-limited combinations of subsidies, coupons, memberships or rebates; those are not stable retail prices or necessarily available to buyers outside China. Zhongguancun Online’s promotion coverage gives examples of such offers.

The clearest hardware distinction is capacity: the Watch 7 has twice the RAM and storage of the 7X. That gives the 7 more room for apps and stored media, but the available launch material does not establish a difference in future software-update eligibility. Both models share the core reported calling, location and camera features.
What location and safety features are advertised?
Launch and later China coverage describe dual-frequency GPS, continuous positioning, 3D floor positioning, indoor and mall positioning, and AI-assisted positioning. The watches are also reported to support real-time location display, designated safety zones, route-deviation or prolonged-stay alerts, and up to 90 days of high-precision route history. Some later China retail descriptions also mention offline storage of positioning data. These are advertised capabilities, not independent measurements of accuracy. Location history and live location are different things: a route record can consist of position updates collected at intervals, rather than an uninterrupted stream. Satellite positioning can also become less precise indoors, underground, amid tall buildings or where cellular and Wi-Fi assistance is limited. “3D floor positioning” is a claimed feature, not a guarantee that the watch will always identify the correct floor.

Calls, WeChat, QQ and video
Both watches are reported to support video calling, voice communication, and child/watch editions of WeChat and QQ. Their dual-camera arrangement consists of a 5MP front camera and an 8MP side camera; the side view can be useful for showing surroundings during a call. Megapixel counts alone do not establish call image quality, which also depends on lighting, network conditions, software and the receiving device.
Parents considering these functions should verify which contacts can reach the child, what approval or account-linking steps are required, and whether both parties need compatible China-region accounts or services. The available launch reports confirm app and call support but do not set out all current account, contact, moderation or regional rules.

Wellness functions on the Watch 7
The Watch 7 is reported to add real-time heart-rate monitoring and high-heart-rate alerts, as well as emotion, stress, brain-fatigue and eye-fatigue monitoring. Treat these as wellness features, not medical diagnostics: the cited coverage does not establish clinical validation or suitability for health decisions.

Sports and learning
Launch reports list 18 sports modes and five physical-test functions on both watches, alongside sports-course content, an app store and Xiao Ai assistant features. A later China retailer summary describes more than 100 sports-course resources for the 7X; that is retailer material, not a specification that should be assumed to apply in every region or software version. Zhongguancun Online’s later 7X summary contains that claim.

Battery and water
Each model is reported to have a 950mAh battery. That capacity alone does not establish how many days a charge will last: video calls, location-update frequency, cellular signal, screen use, apps, temperature and settings all affect consumption. The reported 20-meter water resistance should not be treated as unrestricted waterproofing or automatic approval for diving, prolonged swimming, hot water or high-pressure jets. Check Xiaomi’s model-specific care instructions before exposing the watch to water.
Which model makes more sense?
- Consider the Watch 7 if the extra 1GB RAM and 4GB of storage over the 7X, plus its reported wellness functions, matter enough to justify its higher original launch price.
- Consider the 7X if the priority is the shared core of location, calls and video calls, and its lower price is more important than extra memory and the Watch 7’s reported health features.
- Compare current listings rather than relying on old prices if buying in China: original launch prices and temporary retailer promotions are not a dependable quote for today.
What to check before importing one
The 7 and 7X were introduced as China-market products. Buyers elsewhere should verify the exact model, firmware region, language, parent-app availability and local cellular activation before ordering. China-specific services and app stores may not behave the same way abroad, and the available sources do not establish international carrier compatibility, global distribution or international warranty coverage.
- Ask the seller to confirm cellular and SIM requirements and compatibility with the intended carrier.
- Confirm interface language, parent-app availability in your app-store region, and the account region needed to activate the watch.
- Check warranty coverage, return costs, customs and taxes, and whether the seller will support activation problems.
- Review who controls the parent account, which contacts may call or message, and whether location history can be deleted.
- Check current Xiaomi China privacy terms and available account-security options. Xiaomi’s general policy describes processing of device, SIM, app, account and usage information, but it is not a model-specific privacy assessment: Xiaomi privacy policy.
- Explain to the child when the watch can transmit location, audio or video, and set clear expectations for camera and microphone use.
