The Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro can record an outdoor route without your phone: its built-in GNSS supports GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS. That makes it more capable for phone-free walks and runs than a standard Xiaomi Smart Band. But in Brazil, buyers should weigh its large AMOLED screen and useful GPS against an older model’s import and warranty complications, reported NFC limits, and health readings that are better for general trends than dependable measurements.
This is an assessment of the model’s specifications and published testing, not a claim of a new, personally conducted hands-on test. Xiaomi’s current Brazil wearables catalog does not prominently list the Band 8 Pro, so availability and support depend on the particular seller and unit.
What the Band 8 Pro is—and isn’t
The Smart Band 8 Pro is a fitness tracker with a watch-like rectangular shape, not a full smartwatch. Its standout combination is a comparatively large screen, built-in satellite positioning and a slim, light body. Xiaomi lists the model as M2333B1. The official specifications describe a 1.74-inch AMOLED display, 336 × 480 resolution, 60 Hz refresh rate and up to 600 nits brightness. The body measures about 46 × 33.35 × 9.99 mm and weighs approximately 22.5 g without the strap.
It tracks workouts and everyday activity, and offers heart-rate, blood-oxygen (SpO₂), sleep and stress measurements. Xiaomi advertises more than 150 sports modes. Pair it with the Mi Fitness app on an Android 8.0-or-newer phone or an iPhone running iOS 12 or later; the band uses Bluetooth 5.3. Figures above are manufacturer specifications, not guarantees of real-world performance. The global model number and listing details are worth checking before ordering: marketplace titles can mix specifications from different regional versions.
Does GPS work without a phone?
Yes. The Band 8 Pro has its own satellite-positioning hardware, so it can record an outdoor workout route while your phone stays at home. The phone is useful for setup and later review, but is not required to accompany the band for the route recording itself. Xiaomi identifies the supported satellite systems on its product page.
- Pair the band in Mi Fitness and complete setup. Grant the app the location and Bluetooth permissions it requests.
- On the band, choose an outdoor GPS-enabled activity, such as running, walking or cycling.
- Wait for satellite acquisition before starting. Beginning under a roof or in a poor-signal spot can delay or impair the first fix.
- Record the workout on the band. You can leave the phone behind during the activity.
- End the workout on the band, then reconnect and sync with Mi Fitness to review the saved workout and route.
Built-in GPS does not mean the band offers full navigation. It records location; do not buy it expecting turn-by-turn maps, live route guidance, cellular service or emergency communication. A phone remains useful for maps, calls, music and detailed route planning.

Route quality is not guaranteed by the presence of GNSS. Tall buildings, tree cover, tunnels, weather and a short or prematurely started workout can affect acquisition and accuracy. Independent reviews have generally viewed GPS as useful for the price, while user reports describe variable results; neither should be taken as a promise for every route. If GPS will not lock or the route looks wrong
Try again outdoors with an open view of the sky, and wait for the lock indicator before starting. Confirm that the activity uses GPS, update the band and Mi Fitness, and allow the necessary permissions. If it still fails, restart the band, reconnect and sync it, then test on several open-sky outings. One route beside tall buildings is not enough to establish that the unit is defective; repeated failure in good conditions is a reason to contact the seller while a return window is open.
Screen, controls and comfort
The 1.74-inch AMOLED panel is one of the clearest reasons to choose the Pro over a narrow fitness band. Its rectangular layout gives workout figures, notifications and widgets more room, while AMOLED offers high contrast. Xiaomi specifies 600 nits maximum brightness and automatic brightness adjustment; that is a published peak, not a guarantee of exceptional visibility in every harsh midday condition. Reinforced GG3 glass is also listed in the specifications.
The larger body is more watch-like than the standard Band 8 and may feel less discreet, especially on a smaller wrist. At roughly 22.5 g before the strap, it is light on paper, though fit is personal. The supplied TPU strap uses a quick-release mechanism, and Xiaomi gives a supported wrist range of 135–205 mm. Wareable noted the lack of a conventional physical side button as a usability drawback: the interface relies more on the touchscreen, which can be less convenient when hands are wet or moving.
The 5 ATM rating means water resistance under specified test conditions, not a promise that the band is safe at a literal 50 metres. Xiaomi says it is suitable for pools and shallow-water activity, but advises against hot showers, saunas, diving and forceful water currents. Water resistance can deteriorate with age or damage. Check Xiaomi’s water-resistance guidance and remove the band for activities outside those limits.

Battery: 14 days is a claim, not a forecast
Xiaomi rates the 289 mAh battery for up to 14 days in normal use, or up to 6 days with the always-on display, and gives an approximate 80-minute charging time. Treat those as manufacturer figures under controlled use, not an expected result for every owner. GPS sessions, screen brightness, always-on display, notification volume, workout frequency and the rate of heart-rate or SpO₂ monitoring all affect endurance. Frequent GPS recording is an especially relevant trade-off for runners.
When comparing your own battery life with a claim or review, compare the settings too. If charge drops unusually fast, check always-on display, brightness, frequent GPS workouts, continuous health monitoring, notifications and repeated syncing. Firmware updates can also affect behavior. A useful battery report includes the settings and workout pattern, not just the number of days.
Health and sports tracking: useful context, not clinical data
The band can track heart rate, SpO₂, sleep, stress, daily activity and workouts. Those readings may help you notice broad patterns, but they are estimates—not a substitute for a medical device or professional advice. Xiaomi states that the measurements are for personal reference and are not intended to diagnose, prevent or treat disease.

Canaltech’s Brazilian analysis is a useful local reference. Do not rely on a single heart-rate or oxygen reading to make a health decision, and do not treat a sleep score as equivalent to a clinical sleep study. More than 150 listed sports modes also do not make the band a serious training watch: the available evidence does not establish advanced coaching, recovery analysis or high-end sports-watch accuracy.

Mi Fitness and buying an imported unit in Brazil
Mi Fitness handles pairing, settings, watch faces, firmware updates, workout history and route review. Setup and notifications depend partly on the phone: Android background and battery restrictions can interrupt an app, while iOS and Android manage permissions differently. If alerts stop arriving, check that Mi Fitness has the needed notification permissions, remains allowed to run in the background, and that Bluetooth and phone-level notification settings are enabled. Do not assume identical behavior across phone brands.
Region and firmware can affect available services, watch faces and features. Before buying an import, ask for a clear photo of the box or device label and confirm the model number (M2333B1), global or Chinese version, supported languages, firmware and seller return terms. Check that the charger and strap are compatible with the exact unit. A product title alone is not reliable evidence of regional features.
For Brazil specifically, Xiaomi’s current wearables page and product catalog prominently show newer products and the standard Smart Band 8, but do not prominently list the Band 8 Pro. That does not prove no Brazilian seller has stock; it does mean a marketplace listing should not be mistaken for current official Brazilian retail availability. Confirm who handles warranty, returns and repair before paying.
NFC is another point to verify rather than trust in a listing. Canaltech reported that NFC was not available to Brazilian users. Availability can depend on the hardware variant, firmware, region and payment-service support, so do not assume an imported Chinese-version feature will work in Brazil. Ask the seller specifically about the unit and Brazilian payment support; if contactless payments are essential, choose a product whose local payment compatibility is explicitly confirmed.

The Band 8 Pro is not a cellular device. It cannot independently make calls, send messages or use mobile data. A nearby paired phone may enable notifications and other connected functions, but the band itself is not a phone replacement.
How it compares with current Xiaomi options
The choice hinges on one question: do you need independent GPS on your wrist? The Pro’s defining advantage over the standard Band 8 is built-in GNSS. Xiaomi’s Brazilian page for the standard Smart Band 8 does not establish it as an equivalent phone-free GPS tracker. Likewise, do not assume the standard Smart Band 9, Band 10 or 9 Active has the Pro’s positioning hardware; check the specifications of the exact model before buying.
Newer bands may be easier to obtain through Xiaomi’s Brazilian channel, while the Pro may suit someone who prioritizes its integrated GPS and larger display. The Redmi Watch 4 is another option for buyers who want a more watch-like shape, but compare exact GPS, battery and software specifications rather than assuming that a larger watch automatically fits better. No dependable current Brazilian price comparison is established here, so the Pro’s value depends on the live price, seller reliability, warranty and return policy.

Who should consider it?
- Worth considering: casual runners, walkers or cyclists who want to leave the phone behind for basic route recording; buyers who value a larger AMOLED screen and long claimed battery life; and people comfortable using Mi Fitness and buying through a seller with clear return terms.
- Look elsewhere: athletes who need consistently reliable training data, advanced analysis or serious navigation; users who need confirmed contactless payments in Brazil; anyone seeking calls, LTE, a voice assistant or a rich app ecosystem; and buyers who require straightforward official Brazilian warranty support.
- Try before committing if possible: smaller-wrist users who find rectangular bands bulky, and anyone whose decision depends on sensor accuracy or all-day comfort rather than headline specifications.
