For most buyers, the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 is the better all-round fitness band. It has the larger, sharper, brighter display, a smoother 60Hz interface, longer claimed battery life, and a more flexible strap system. The Huawei Band 8 is the better specialist choice if you prioritise a lighter design, Huawei’s sleep and wellness tools, or faster charging.

Neither is a full smartwatch, and neither standard model should be bought expecting phone-free GPS or universally supported contactless payments. In 2026, the exact regional version, current price, warranty, app support, and battery condition may matter more than the launch specifications.

Design and display

The Xiaomi has the more impressive screen. Its 1.62-inch AMOLED panel is larger than Huawei’s 1.47-inch display, offers a 192 × 490 resolution, reaches up to 600 nits according to Xiaomi’s regional materials, and supports a 60Hz refresh rate. That combination makes notifications, workout metrics, menus, and watch faces easier to read and makes scrolling feel more fluid.

The Huawei Band 8 is slimmer and lighter on paper. Huawei lists the body at approximately 8.99mm thick and 14g without its strap. Xiaomi’s cited figure is approximately 27g with the in-box strap, so the two weights are not directly comparable. Huawei is nevertheless the safer choice for anyone who dislikes feeling a tracker on the wrist, particularly during sleep.

Xiaomi’s approximately 48mm-long body provides more screen area but may feel more noticeable on a small wrist. Huawei’s narrower, lighter shape may be more comfortable for overnight wear. Xiaomi also uses a quick-release strap system and offers more styling possibilities in some markets, including special accessory formats. Check local availability before assuming every strap style is sold in your country. See Xiaomi’s official product information.

Display winner: Xiaomi. Comfort winner: Huawei, especially for small wrists and sleep tracking.

Battery life and charging

Xiaomi claims at least 16 days of typical use from its 190mAh battery, falling to approximately six days with the always-on display enabled. Huawei claims up to 14 days in a light-use scenario, up to nine days under typical use, and up to three days with always-on display.

These figures are not a controlled head-to-head test. Xiaomi and Huawei use different test conditions, and actual endurance depends on brightness, workouts, notification volume, continuous heart-rate monitoring, automatic SpO₂ checks, stress monitoring, Bluetooth connection quality, and battery age.

Huawei charges faster, with a claimed full charge of about 45 minutes compared with approximately one hour for Xiaomi. Its claim of up to two days from a five-minute charge is particularly useful when travelling, although that result applies to Huawei’s specified light-use conditions.

Fitness tracking and GPS

Huawei advertises 100 workout modes, while Xiaomi offers broad activity support and highlights a running-focused Pebble Mode with detailed running metrics. Huawei therefore wins on the headline activity count, but a larger number of modes does not prove better sensor accuracy or deeper analysis. Some modes may primarily classify an activity rather than add specialised measurement.

Xiaomi’s Pebble Mode can make the Smart Band 8 appealing to casual runners who want more information on the band and in the app. It is not equivalent to a dedicated running watch with independent positioning, advanced training analysis, navigation, and a mature sports ecosystem.

Neither standard band should be assumed to have built-in GPS. Built-in GNSS/GPS is not listed on the cited standard-model specification pages. Outdoor route and distance tracking generally depend on the paired phone, so runners and cyclists should carry their phone. Huawei’s own material discusses outdoor cycling in connection with phones that support GPS: Huawei Band 8 product information.

Do not confuse phone-assisted GPS with a GPS chip inside the band. Also check the exact model because marketplace listings may mix up the Xiaomi Smart Band 8, Smart Band 8 Pro, Chinese editions, and other generations.

Health and sleep tracking

Huawei places greater emphasis on wellness software. Its Band 8 promotes TruSeen heart-rate monitoring, TruSleep sleep tracking, TruRelax stress monitoring, automatic SpO₂ monitoring, menstrual-cycle tools, breathing exercises, and other wellness features.

Xiaomi also provides heart-rate monitoring, sleep tracking, SpO₂ measurements, stress-related features, menstrual-cycle tracking, and workout and recovery information. The difference is more about emphasis and presentation than a complete absence of health features on either device.

Huawei gets a narrow health-and-sleep advantage for buyers who prefer its feature set and app presentation. There is not enough evidence to declare either band more accurate. Controlled testing against clinical reference equipment would be required for that.

Health warning: Both are consumer wearables, not medical devices. Sleep stages are algorithmic estimates, and SpO₂ readings can be affected by fit, movement, skin contact, wrist position, and firmware. Do not use either band to diagnose or rule out a medical condition.

Smart features and notifications

Both bands are designed for basic phone-connected convenience rather than standalone communication. They can show incoming calls and messages and provide tools such as alarms, music controls, timers, and phone-finding features. Huawei also advertises quick replies in supported situations, a flashlight, and a remote shutter.

Actual notification behaviour varies by phone and operating system. Android may offer more interaction and quick-reply options, while iPhone restrictions can reduce notification controls. Long messages, images, emojis, and some app notifications may be truncated. Call alerts do not necessarily mean the band supports wrist-based conversations.

On Android, background battery restrictions can interrupt syncing and notifications. If updates are delayed, allow Mi Fitness or Huawei Health to run in the background, grant Bluetooth and notification permissions, and disable battery optimisation for the relevant app. Menu names differ between phone manufacturers and Android versions.

App experience and phone compatibility

The Xiaomi Smart Band 8 uses Mi Fitness. Xiaomi’s cited specification page lists Android 6.0 or later and iOS 12.0 or later, with Bluetooth 5.1 BLE: official Xiaomi specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Huawei Band 8 uses Huawei Health. Huawei’s specification page lists EMUI 5.0 or later, Android 8.0 or later, and iOS 9.0 or later, with Bluetooth 5.0/BLE. However, Huawei’s broader product page includes a footnote stating iOS 13.0 or later. That is a genuine inconsistency, so iPhone buyers should check the current Huawei Health App Store requirements and regional support page before purchasing: Huawei Band 8 product page.

Compatibility is not just about Bluetooth. Check app availability in your country, account requirements, notification permissions, Apple Health or other platform integration, data export, firmware updates, and which features are restricted on iPhone. In 2026, continued app support may be more important than the originally published minimum operating-system version.

NFC payments: verify before buying

Do not buy either band for payments until you verify the exact model, country of sale, supported payment service, and participating bank.

NFC can vary between Chinese and global editions, and hardware that includes NFC may not support contactless payments in another country. A marketplace title containing “NFC” does not guarantee Google Wallet, Apple Pay, bank-card, or transit-payment support.

Water resistance and durability

Both devices are rated 5 ATM water-resistant. That is not the same as waterproof and does not make them suitable for diving or high-pressure water exposure.

Huawei specifically warns against diving, hot showers, saunas, hot springs, and fast-flowing water, and notes that water resistance can deteriorate with wear. Follow the manufacturer’s care guidance for either band. Xiaomi also lists 5 ATM water resistance for the Smart Band 8.

Which should you buy?

Choose the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 if:

  • You want the largest, easiest-to-read display.
  • You value a smoother 60Hz interface.
  • You prefer longer claimed battery life.
  • You want more strap and styling flexibility.
  • You already use Xiaomi’s ecosystem and Mi Fitness.
  • You want a capable budget tracker for notifications, steps, casual workouts, and wellness trends.

Choose the Huawei Band 8 if:

  • You want the lightest, least noticeable design.
  • You sleep with your tracker and dislike bulky wearables.
  • You prefer Huawei Health’s sleep and wellness tools.
  • You value fast charging and quick top-ups.
  • Huawei is meaningfully cheaper and officially supported in your market.

Choose neither if:

  • You need phone-free GPS for running or cycling.
  • Contactless payment is essential and regional support is unclear.
  • You need advanced training load, recovery, navigation, or route maps.
  • You require highly reliable smartwatch notifications and replies.
  • You want the newest sensors, firmware, and longest likely support life.

Should you buy either in 2026?

Only buy one if the discount is substantial and the seller is trustworthy. These are older-generation bands, so a low price does not automatically mean good value. Check the exact model name and number, region of origin, NFC status, official app compatibility, warranty region, return policy, and whether the battery may have spent years in storage.

Xiaomi’s global directory still lists the Smart Band 8 alongside newer generations, but directory presence does not guarantee local stock: Xiaomi global band directory. Huawei availability is also market-specific; one cited regional buy page currently displays the Band 8 as out of stock: Huawei regional buy page.

Compare the Band 8 models with newer Xiaomi Smart Band generations, newer Huawei bands where officially sold, or a Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro if you want a larger watch-like design. If phone-free running is the priority, move up to a GPS-equipped sports watch, such as an entry-level Garmin or another model with clearly documented GNSS support. Fitbit alternatives may suit readers who prioritise sleep reporting and ecosystem features, but check subscription costs and regional functions.

Do not assume older straps or chargers are interchangeable. Search specifically for “Xiaomi Smart Band 8” straps because its connector differs from some earlier Mi Band generations. Use model-specific magnetic chargers for both bands.

Final verdict

The Xiaomi Smart Band 8 reigns supreme as the general-purpose choice when it and the Huawei Band 8 cost roughly the same. Its larger, brighter, higher-refresh-rate display and longer claimed battery life make the biggest everyday difference.

The Huawei Band 8 remains the better comfort-and-wellness pick. It is lighter, slimmer, charges faster, and gives Huawei Health users a strong sleep and health-focused experience.

Make the final decision locally: choose Xiaomi for screen and endurance, Huawei for lightness and wellness, and neither if you need built-in GPS or confidently verified payments. This verdict is based on published specifications and available review evidence, not independent hands-on testing of both units.
