The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Active did launch in Europe on November 18, 2024. Its reported launch price was €29.99, based on an Amazon France listing reported before release. It is now an older, entry-level fitness band rather than an upcoming product; Xiaomi’s European stores have since shown country-specific prices around €24.99 in some markets.
The important correction to early coverage is the screen: Xiaomi’s official specifications identify a 1.47-inch TFT display, not AMOLED. That helps explain the low price, alongside the band’s limited smartwatch functionality and the absence of built-in GPS or NFC from Xiaomi’s published European specification tables.
Launch date, price and availability
The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Active was reported for European release on November 18, 2024, with a listed price of €29.99. That date and price came from an Amazon France listing reported by Gizmochina and Cinco Días, rather than a clearly documented Europe-wide Xiaomi press-release price.

These are country-specific store signals, not a universal European price. VAT, stock, delivery charges and temporary promotions can change the amount, so check the relevant national Xiaomi store before buying.

These details come from Xiaomi’s global product page and its European specification pages. Xiaomi lists the model number reported before launch as M2435B1.
The display is TFT, not AMOLED
Early pre-launch coverage described the Smart Band 9 Active as having a 1.47-inch AMOLED display, with some reports also mentioning 450-nit brightness. Xiaomi’s official European specifications instead identify the panel as a 1.47-inch TFT display with a 172 × 320 resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. The official pages do not confirm the 450-nit figure.
That distinction matters. TFT technology helps Xiaomi keep the band inexpensive, but it generally cannot provide the deep blacks and high perceived contrast associated with AMOLED. The 60Hz refresh rate should help scrolling and animations feel reasonably smooth for a budget tracker, but it does not make the screen a premium panel.

Xiaomi describes these as wellness and fitness functions, not medical tools. Readings can be affected by strap fit, movement and other conditions. SpO₂, heart-rate, sleep and stress data should not be used to diagnose or treat a health problem, and menstrual-cycle predictions are estimates. Anyone with concerning symptoms should rely on suitable medical equipment and professional medical advice.
Battery life and charging
Xiaomi rates the 300mAh battery for up to 18 days in typical use. Its own heavy-use figure is approximately 9 days. The 18-day number is therefore a test-condition maximum, not a guaranteed ownership result.
Continuous heart-rate or SpO₂ monitoring, sleep and breathing measurements, frequent notifications, repeated wrist raises, bright watch faces and regular workouts can all reduce endurance. Magnetic charging takes less than 120 minutes according to Xiaomi, which is convenient but still means the band depends on its dedicated charging cable.

Is it a smartwatch?
No. The Smart Band 9 Active is better understood as a lightweight fitness band with notifications and simple utilities. It is not a replacement for an Apple Watch, Wear OS watch or other full smartwatch.

Xiaomi’s published European specifications list Bluetooth 5.3 BLE, a PPG sensor, an accelerometer and a vibration motor, but they do not list built-in GPS or NFC. The careful conclusion is that GPS and NFC are not listed for this European model, rather than claiming Xiaomi has confirmed the absence of every possible regional variant.
That means runners should expect to carry a phone for route tracking, and buyers should not purchase the band expecting contactless payments, a large app ecosystem, calls or extensive notification replies.
What does the low price leave out?
The €30-class price is attractive because the product focuses on the basics. The compromises are equally clear:

- TFT instead of AMOLED: lower-cost screen technology with less premium contrast.
- Fitness-band software: activity, health estimates, notifications and utilities rather than a full smartwatch platform.
- Phone dependence: the Mi Fitness app and a compatible phone are central to setup and data management.
- No listed GPS or NFC: phone-free route tracking and payments should not be assumed.
- Basic interaction: vibration alerts and a compact display rather than premium haptics or watch-style communication.
- Wellness-only measurements: the health features are not medical monitoring.
Water-resistance limits
The 5ATM rating supports ordinary shallow-water use under the relevant test standard, but it does not make the band suitable for every aquatic environment. Xiaomi warns against hot showers, saunas, diving, strong or fast-moving water and direct impacts or high water pressure. Water resistance can also decline with age and wear.

Who should buy the Smart Band 9 Active?
It makes sense for buyers who want the cheapest Xiaomi-branded option for steps, casual workouts, sleep estimates, heart-rate tracking, notifications and long battery life. Xiaomi phone owners already using Mi Fitness may find the ecosystem familiar, while the 16.5g body should be unobtrusive during daily wear.
It is a particularly reasonable choice when the price is close to €25 and the buyer does not care about display quality, standalone GPS or payments.
Who should choose something else?
- Choose a higher-tier Smart Band if an AMOLED-style experience and a more premium band feel matter more than the lowest price. Xiaomi’s store listings showed the Smart Band 9 around €39.99 and the newer Smart Band 10 around €49.99 in the cited markets, although prices change.
- Consider the Redmi Watch 5 Lite if you prefer a larger, watch-style screen. A Xiaomi Italy listing showed it around €44.99, making it a different form factor rather than a direct like-for-like replacement.
- Consider the Smart Band 9 Pro if you want Xiaomi’s higher-tier band design and features and can spend considerably more; a France listing showed approximately €59.99 on sale against a displayed €79.99 reference price.
- Avoid the Smart Band 9 Active if you specifically need AMOLED, phone-free running routes, contactless payments, extensive apps, calls, rich replies or medical-grade readings.
Exact features, software support, stock and prices depend on the country and model listing. Android and iOS functionality may also differ, so check the local Xiaomi specification page and Mi Fitness requirements before purchase. Xiaomi’s regional pages are not perfectly consistent about compatibility thresholds, although current European specification tables commonly state Android 8.0 and iOS 14.0 or newer.
