The Xiaomi Smart Band 9’s international launch leak was broadly right, but its details were not final. An Amazon Italy listing pointed to August 19, 2024, while Xiaomi’s Dutch website later listed European availability from August 16 at €39.99. Some European markets reportedly offered an introductory €5 discount, bringing the launch price to €34.99. The rollout was regional rather than a single, simultaneous worldwide release.
What the original Xiaomi Smart Band 9 leak claimed
The first widely reported date came from an Amazon Italy listing. It reportedly indicated an August 19, 2024 release date for the international model.
That was useful timing evidence, but it was not a Xiaomi announcement. Retailer listings can contain placeholder dates, regional mistakes or internal inventory estimates. The listing also did not provide a reliably verified launch price, so it was inaccurate to present August 19 as a confirmed global launch date.
How the leaked price compared with the final European price
Early reports expected the Smart Band 9 to cost less than €50 in Europe. That estimate was directionally correct: Xiaomi’s Dutch listing later showed a price of €39.99. This was the observed European list price, not proof of a universal worldwide MSRP.

The €34.99 figure was a reported introductory offer, not necessarily the permanent price. Taxes, retailer discounts, bundles and local distribution also affected the final amount. Converting €39.99 directly into dollars would not establish a US MSRP.

When did the Smart Band 9 actually launch internationally?
The Smart Band 9 was introduced in China in July 2024, alongside the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 and Mix Flip, before reaching international markets. Its overseas rollout was staggered:

- August 14, 2024: Sales began in Japan, according to Xiaomi Japan’s announcement.
- August 16, 2024: European availability was listed by Xiaomi’s Dutch website.
- September 26, 2024: Spanish availability was reported by Cinco Días.
Therefore, “global launch” should be read as an international rollout across selected markets, not simultaneous availability in every country. The available launch evidence does not establish a broad official US retail release or a US price.
What the international model included
Xiaomi’s global specifications page lists the following core hardware:

Xiaomi also advertises more than 150 sports modes, sleep tracking, heart-rate and SpO₂ monitoring, automatic brightness adjustment and a linear vibration motor. These are manufacturer-stated features, not independent accuracy results. Heart-rate, blood-oxygen and sleep readings should be treated as wellness information rather than medical diagnosis.

Battery and water-resistance qualifications
“Up to 21 days” is not a guaranteed runtime. Continuous heart-rate or SpO₂ monitoring, sleep tracking, screen brightness, notifications, vibration, workouts, firmware and watch faces can all reduce endurance. Xiaomi notes that real-world results vary.

Colors and accessories varied by country
The global specifications page lists Midnight Black, Glacier Silver, Mystic Rose, Arctic Blue and Titan Gray. Xiaomi also promoted separately sold straps and accessories, including different strap styles and a running clip.

Those colors and accessories should not be assumed to be available in every market. Promotional images can show Chinese-market or optional products, so buyers should check the local Xiaomi store or retailer listing.

The international and Chinese bands may look nearly identical, but “global” refers to more than translated packaging. The exact regional SKU can affect firmware, supported languages, Mi Fitness region behavior, included accessories, warranty coverage and available services.
The NFC question
Launch coverage did not establish a broadly available global NFC model. China offered variants and features that did not necessarily carry over to international markets. That does not justify saying every international Smart Band 9 lacks NFC: buyers should verify the exact model number and country listing, particularly if contactless payments or access cards matter.

Do not assume that NFC hardware, where present, will support payments in your country. Payment services depend on the regional firmware, Xiaomi’s supported services and local banking compatibility.
Should you import the Chinese version?
Importing can be attractive if it provides earlier access, a color unavailable locally or a lower headline price. The apparent saving can disappear after shipping, taxes, return costs and marketplace fees, however.
- Warranty: Chinese-market warranty coverage may not transfer internationally.
- Software: Mi Fitness pairing, account regions, languages and firmware behavior may be less straightforward.
- Payments: NFC may not work with the buyer’s local payment or access system.
- Accessories: Included straps and replacement options can differ.
- Authenticity: Unspecified “global” listings may not identify the firmware region, model number or genuine warranty.
For most buyers, the international model is the safer choice when it is officially sold in their country. It offers a better chance of regional software support, local returns and applicable warranty coverage. Importing makes more sense only when the buyer has checked the exact SKU and accepts the support and feature risks.

- Check the exact model number and whether it is intended for your country.
- Confirm NFC support separately if payments or access cards are important.
- Verify the retailer’s warranty, return policy and whether Xiaomi will provide local support.
- Check the included strap, color and charger contents.
- Do not treat a €39.99 2024 launch price as the current August 2026 price.
- Remember that the band depends on a phone for its connected features and is not a standalone cellular smartwatch.
The final verdict on the launch leaks
The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 leak was directionally accurate but not precise. The Amazon Italy listing suggested August 19, yet Xiaomi’s reported European listing gave August 16 as the meaningful European availability date and €39.99 as the list price. Japan went on sale earlier, Spain later, and availability was not proven to be worldwide.
The practical buying decision is less about the leaked date now and more about the regional SKU. Choose an officially supported international model when warranty, straightforward Mi Fitness setup or local returns matter. Consider a Chinese import only after confirming NFC, firmware, language, compatibility and after-sales support.
