Unofficial renders published on October 13, 2024 showed the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro with a familiar rectangular body but several apparent design refinements: slimmer-looking bezels, slightly curved front glass, a matte side frame, a revised clasp and silver, black and gold/rose-gold finishes.
The renders did not confirm the launch date, price or specifications. Xiaomi has since officially released the Smart Band 9 Pro, confirming much of the broad design direction while adding a 1.74-inch AMOLED display, independent GNSS, a 350mAh battery and up to 21 days of claimed typical-use battery life.
What the first Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro renders showed
The images reported by Gizmochina on October 13, 2024 were unofficial renders, not Xiaomi press images or an official announcement. They depicted a fitness tracker clearly related to the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro rather than a radical redesign.
- Rectangular body: The elongated watch-like shape remained broadly unchanged.
- Curved-looking front: The display glass appeared more rounded at the edges than the flat-looking front of the predecessor.
- Narrower bezels: The renders suggested a larger usable screen area, although they did not establish a larger screen diagonal.
- Matte side frame: The frame appeared less glossy and more textured.
- Side control: A single pill-shaped physical button or control was visible.
- Revised strap fastening: The clasp appeared closer to the end of the strap, creating a visual comparison with an Apple Watch-style fastening arrangement. That comparison describes the appearance, not Xiaomi’s stated design intention.
- Multiple finishes: The renders appeared to show silver, black and gold or rose-gold versions.
In short, the leak pointed to an evolutionary design focused on presentation and comfort rather than a new wearable category.

How credible were the renders?
The renders were useful evidence of a possible industrial-design direction, but they could not establish the final product. The initial report was not accompanied by a Xiaomi press release, official product page or confirmed specification sheet. The provenance of the images was also not established in the material available for the original report.
That distinction matters. Promotional-looking renders can accurately portray a device’s exterior while still showing colors, materials or proportions that change before retail release. They cannot reliably prove:
- display resolution or exact screen size;
- battery capacity or real-world endurance;
- GPS/GNSS hardware;
- health sensors and their performance;
- NFC, software functions or compatibility details;
- strap interchangeability;
- regional availability or pricing.
The apparent larger screen area was especially easy to overinterpret. Slimmer bezels or image perspective can make a display look larger without increasing its diagonal measurement.

What was known—and unknown—at the time
From the October 2024 leak, readers could reasonably identify the product as the likely successor to the Smart Band 8 Pro and discuss its visible design changes. They could not yet treat the following as confirmed Smart Band 9 Pro specifications:
- launch date;
- price;
- display resolution;
- battery capacity;
- GPS or other positioning hardware;
- NFC;
- health-monitoring sensors;
- Mi Fitness support;
- compatibility with Android or iPhone;
- global release plans.
The original report suggested that features such as GPS, automatic brightness, Always-On Display, health monitoring and Mi Fitness integration might carry over from the Smart Band 8 Pro. Those were reasonable expectations based on the predecessor, but they were speculation at leak time—not evidence of the new model’s final specification.
Update: what Xiaomi later confirmed
Xiaomi has since published official product information for the Smart Band 9 Pro. The finished device broadly validates the leak’s visual direction, but the confirmed specifications are more specific than the renders could have been.

Further official specifications listed by Xiaomi include dimensions of 43.27 × 32.49 × 10.8mm, excluding the heart-rate sensor, a weight of approximately 24.5g without the strap, Bluetooth 5.4 and magnetic charging that takes approximately 75 minutes. Xiaomi’s global product page and regional specifications page should be treated as the authority for final details.
The meaningful changes over the Smart Band 8 Pro
A more polished display
The final model uses a 1.74-inch AMOLED panel with 336 × 480 resolution, up to 1200 nits of brightness and a refresh rate of up to 60Hz, although Xiaomi notes that refresh rate can vary by interface. The 2.5D cover glass and narrow 2.2mm edges give substance to the leak’s impression of a more refined front.
Independent outdoor tracking
One of the most consequential upgrades is independent GNSS. The Smart Band 9 Pro can use GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS for route tracking without relying entirely on a phone. That makes it more useful for runs, walks and cycling, although built-in positioning does not guarantee the navigation features or accuracy of a full smartwatch in every environment.

Long endurance, with important conditions
Xiaomi claims up to 21 days in typical use, up to 10 days with Always-On Display enabled and up to eight days in heavy-load mode. These are not interchangeable figures. Screen activation, notifications, continuous monitoring and frequent workouts—especially GNSS workouts—can reduce endurance substantially. The headline 21-day figure should therefore be read as a best-case usage claim under Xiaomi’s stated test conditions.
Health, sport and haptics
The finished band includes an upgraded linear motor and supports more than 150 sports modes, 15 professional sports modes, six automatically recognized activities and 10 built-in running programs. Xiaomi also claims improved heart-rate and blood-oxygen monitoring, including a 15% heart-rate accuracy improvement over the preceding model in internal testing. Those accuracy figures are Xiaomi’s own laboratory or algorithm comparisons, not independent test results.
The device is intended for wellness reference. Xiaomi says its health functions are not medical devices and should not be used to diagnose, prevent or treat a condition.

Who should consider the Smart Band 9 Pro?
The finished product is a strong fit for someone who wants a larger display than a conventional narrow fitness band, built-in route tracking, long battery life and basic health, sleep, stress and activity monitoring without moving to a full smartwatch. Its approximately 24.5g body weight without the strap also keeps it relatively light, and official support for Android and iOS broadens its appeal.
It is a poorer fit for buyers who need cellular connectivity, a deep third-party app ecosystem, advanced on-device navigation, full smartwatch functions or clinical-grade health monitoring. It remains a fitness band with a larger watch-like screen—not a replacement for a Wear OS or watchOS smartwatch.
Important buying qualifications
- iPhone owners: Basic iOS compatibility is official, but some functions may be limited by phone ecosystem. Xiaomi notes that certain features, such as events, are limited to Xiaomi or Redmi phones.
- Swimmers: 5ATM resistance is intended for swimming and shallow-water activity. It does not make the band suitable for diving, saunas, hot showers or strong currents, and water resistance can decline over time.
- Imported units: Check firmware region, NFC availability, supported colors, warranty coverage and app behavior before buying.
- Straps: Verify the exact quick-release system and dimensions rather than assuming every Smart Band 8 Pro strap will fit.
- Pricing: Xiaomi’s global page does not provide one universal current price. Price, stock and included accessories should be checked on the Xiaomi store for the relevant country.
Verdict
The October 13, 2024 renders were a genuine first look at the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro, but they showed only the outside of an unreleased product. Their strongest clues—2.5D-looking glass, slimmer bezels, a matte frame, revised fastening and new color families—were broadly consistent with the finished device. They did not, however, prove its specifications or launch details.

Readers evaluating the product today should use Xiaomi’s official regional specifications rather than the old leak, and should judge it as a long-running fitness band—not as a full smartwatch.
