Quick answer: To reset and unpair the Xiaomi Watch 2, open Mi Fitness → Device → Xiaomi Watch 2 → Unpair. Xiaomi’s documented unpair process also starts a factory reset and erases watch data. To check for firmware updates, open Settings → System → Firmware update on the watch. Sync important data first and charge the watch before either process.
Before you reset or unpair
On the Xiaomi Watch 2, Unpair is not merely a harmless Bluetooth removal. Xiaomi says the Mi Fitness unpair process restores the watch to factory settings, removes its phone connection, and clears watch data, including personalized settings and workout data. The action cannot be undone.
- Open Mi Fitness and allow the watch to synchronize.
- Confirm that the watch is connected to the phone.
- Record important settings, alarms, watch faces, app configurations, and workout information.
- Charge the watch before starting.
- Keep your Xiaomi account credentials available.
- If transferring ownership, remove payment cards and verify that the watch reaches its initial setup screen after resetting.
Do not assume every item will automatically return after pairing again. Cloud recovery depends on the data type and account synchronization.
The Xiaomi Watch 2 uses Wear OS by Google but is paired and managed through Xiaomi’s Mi Fitness app, sometimes shown in app listings as “Mi Fitness (Xiaomi Wear).” These instructions are for the Watch 2, not the Watch 2 Pro or other Xiaomi watches.

- 1.43" AMOLED display Resolution 466 x 466 pixels, 326 dpi

How to unpair and factory-reset the Xiaomi Watch 2
- Open Mi Fitness on your Android phone.
- Open Device.
- Select Xiaomi Watch 2.
- Tap Unpair.
- Read the warning and confirm.
- Keep the phone and watch close together while the reset begins.
- Wait for the watch to erase its data and restart.
Afterward, the watch should be in setup condition. Pair it again as a new device, or leave it at the setup screen if you are selling or giving it away. Xiaomi’s dedicated instructions are available in its unpairing FAQ.
If Unpair does not reset the watch
Xiaomi says the watch should be connected to the phone when you use Mi Fitness to unpair it. If the watch is disconnected, the phone relationship may be removed without the watch completing its factory reset.

Deleting the phone’s Bluetooth entry alone does not guarantee that the watch itself has been erased.
Can you reset it from the watch?
Some Wear OS watches show a reset option under Settings → System, such as Disconnect and reset or Unpair with phone. Google documents these options for some Wear OS devices, but menu names are not universal across manufacturers or software versions.

How to update Xiaomi Watch 2 firmware
Update from the watch
- Charge the watch to at least 50%.
- Connect it to your phone and ensure there is a stable internet connection.
- Keep the watch close to the phone.
- On the watch, open Settings.
- Tap System.
- Tap Firmware update.
- If an update is available, download it.
- Keep the watch powered and connected while installation completes.
After the package downloads, Xiaomi says the watch installs it automatically and restarts. Wi-Fi is a sensible choice to avoid unnecessary mobile-data use, but the support guidance should be understood as a stable-internet recommendation rather than a universal Wi-Fi requirement.

- Two year warranty against factory defects.
Update through Mi Fitness
- Open Mi Fitness.
- Select the Xiaomi Watch 2 from the device screen.
- Look for Firmware update, System update, Check for updates, or similar wording.
- Start the download only when the watch is charged and connected.
- Keep the watch nearby and allow Mi Fitness to remain available during the process.
App labels can change by region, language, and app release. Xiaomi’s official support pages do not establish one globally current firmware number, so check the version offered for your own watch rather than relying on a version reported elsewhere.

Pair the watch again after resetting
- Install or update Mi Fitness from the official app store.
- Sign in to your Xiaomi account.
- Start the device-add or pairing process.

- Confirm that the pairing code on the phone matches the code on the watch.
- Grant the required Bluetooth, notification, location, and other permissions.
- Wait for the first synchronization to complete.
- Reinstall watch apps and watch faces as needed.
- Set up Google Wallet payment cards again if they were removed.
Exact setup buttons may vary, but the matching pairing-code confirmation is an important security step.
Reset, unpair, restart, or update?
| Situation | Best first action |
|---|---|
| The watch is slow or temporarily unresponsive | Restart it. |
| You are changing phones | Sync first, then unpair and reset through Mi Fitness. |
| You are selling or giving away the watch | Unpair through Mi Fitness and verify the setup screen appears. |
| Mi Fitness will not sync | Check Bluetooth, permissions, network, and restart both devices. |
| An update will not install | Charge, connect, restart, reduce interference, and retry. |
| Pairing remains corrupted | Remove the old Bluetooth entry, reset, and pair again. |
| Updates repeatedly fail | Re-pair first; factory-reset only after backing up and exhausting simpler fixes. |
Compatibility note
Xiaomi’s regional product information lists Android 8 or later, excluding Android Go devices and phones without Google Play Store. Compatibility and app availability can vary by region. The reviewed Xiaomi documentation does not establish iPhone support for this model, so use a compatible Android phone for the documented Mi Fitness workflow.
