The Xiaomi Watch S4 is official—but the announcement is not new. Xiaomi unveiled the original 47mm model in China on October 29, 2024, before rolling it out in selected global markets. It combines Xiaomi HyperOS 2, a bright AMOLED display, interchangeable bezels, wrist gestures and a claimed battery life of up to 15 days.
That makes it an interesting alternative to many Wear OS and Apple Watch models, particularly for Xiaomi phone owners. However, regional availability, payments, eSIM support and software features vary, and the newer 41mm Watch S4 is a separate model with shorter battery life.
What Xiaomi actually announced
The original Xiaomi Watch S4 was announced in China on October 29, 2024. The launch model was the larger 47mm version, offered in standard and eSIM configurations. Notebookcheck reported Chinese launch prices of CNY 999 for the standard model and CNY 1,199 for the eSIM version; those were launch prices in China, not current universal retail prices. Xiaomi subsequently listed the watch on regional websites including the UK, Singapore, UAE and Malaysia. “Officially available” therefore depends on the country. A Chinese launch, a global product page and an official retail launch in the United States are not the same thing. No conventional U.S. retail availability or current U.S. price should be assumed without checking a local listing.

Display: 1,500 nits HBM is not the same as 2,200 nits peak
The 47mm Watch S4 uses a 1.43-inch, 466 × 466 AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 60Hz. Xiaomi rates its full-screen high-brightness mode, or HBM, at 1,500 nits. That is the most useful figure when considering visibility across the whole display.
Xiaomi regional pages also advertise peak brightness of up to 2,200 nits. Peak brightness usually applies to a limited portion of the screen rather than the entire panel continuously. It should not be merged with the 1,500-nit HBM rating or interpreted as sustained everyday brightness. High brightness can also increase power consumption and heat.

Design, crown and interchangeable bezels
The watch has an aluminum-alloy frame, a touchscreen and a rotating crown for scrolling and navigation. At approximately 44.5g without its strap, it is a substantial watch designed around a 47mm case.

Its interchangeable bezel system is a genuine design differentiator. Owners can change the watch’s appearance without replacing the entire case. The trade-off is that the gap around a detachable bezel can collect sweat and dirt. Xiaomi warns that buildup may affect installation and use, so the bezel should be kept clean and fitted correctly. What HyperOS 2 adds
The original 47mm Watch S4 runs Xiaomi HyperOS 2. Its most important ecosystem feature is Xiaomi Smart Hub, which can connect the watch with compatible Xiaomi products and provide functions such as:

Smart Hub is not a universal HyperOS feature that works identically with every phone. Xiaomi says it requires a compatible Xiaomi smartphone or tablet running the latest HyperOS 2, the latest Mi Fitness app and Xiaomi Home version 10.4 or later.
The watch supports Android 8.0 and later and iOS 14.0 and later, but basic pairing compatibility is not the same as full feature parity. Xiaomi phone owners are the clearest beneficiaries of Smart Hub. iPhone and non-Xiaomi Android users should expect core watch and fitness functions, but not necessarily every ecosystem integration.
How the wrist gestures work
Xiaomi’s quick gestures can be assigned to native watch functions such as rejecting or ignoring calls, dismissing notifications, taking a remote photo or opening the weather app. The available actions can depend on the phone, region and software version.

These are conditional wrist gestures, not unrestricted air controls. Xiaomi’s instructions say the user should remain still, hold the forearm parallel to the chest, keep the screen active and show the watch face or a supported function page. Gestures may be unavailable or unreliable in sleep mode, Do Not Disturb, power-saving mode, with certain Always-On Display watch faces or when the watch detects that the user is asleep. If a gesture fails, wake the display, return to the watch face or supported native page, hold the forearm in the recommended position and remain still. Then check Sleep, Do Not Disturb, power-saving and Always-On Display settings, and update the watch and Mi Fitness app. The touchscreen and rotating crown remain the dependable controls when gestures do not respond.
Calls, notifications and phone compatibility
The Watch S4 supports Bluetooth calling when it remains connected to a phone. Xiaomi says third-party app voice calls are not currently supported. Some notifications and call reminders may also require the phone app to remain active in the background.
Emergency messaging can have additional restrictions when the watch is paired with a phone from another brand. For iPhone users, the watch’s listed iOS compatibility should not be mistaken for Apple Watch-level integration. For non-Xiaomi Android users, GPS, workouts, alarms and many health features may work, but Xiaomi-specific controls depend on the handset, software version and companion apps.
Health, fitness and water resistance
The watch includes heart-rate and blood-oxygen monitoring, an accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient-light sensor, electronic compass, barometer and Hall sensor. It supports GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS positioning, along with more than 150 sports modes.

These features make it a capable wellness and fitness tracker on paper, but Xiaomi’s accuracy claims should be understood as manufacturer claims rather than independent medical validation. Xiaomi states that the watch is not intended for medical purposes and is not designed to diagnose, prevent or cure disease.
The 5ATM rating means pressure equivalent to 50 metres under standardized testing. Xiaomi describes the watch as suitable for swimming pools and shallow-water activities. It does not mean the watch is safe for diving to 50 metres. Avoid hot showers, saunas, diving, high-speed water impact and use after damage or significant aging of the seals. After swimming, use the water-drain function where available and clear residual water from the speaker openings.
Battery life: up to 15 days, under Xiaomi’s conditions
Xiaomi rates the 486mAh 47mm Watch S4 for up to 15 days of typical use. Launch coverage also reported approximately five days with Always-On Display enabled. These are manufacturer usage claims, not an independently measured guarantee.
GPS workouts, Bluetooth calls, frequent notifications, high brightness, continuous health monitoring and Always-On Display can all reduce endurance. The 15-day figure is therefore most relevant to a restrained usage pattern, not necessarily to users who exercise outdoors daily or keep every sensor and display feature active.
47mm versus 41mm: do not confuse the two
Xiaomi now also lists a separate 41mm Watch S4. Its specifications should not be used to describe the original 47mm model.

The 41mm version is the more natural choice for smaller wrists, but its substantially shorter battery claim is the major trade-off. Consult the separate 41mm specification page before buying accessories or comparing prices.
Regional limits: NFC, payments, eSIM and imports
NFC is listed on regional Watch S4 pages, but payment support varies by country, bank, card network and terminal. Xiaomi describes Mastercard and Visa support in some markets; that does not guarantee contactless payments everywhere.
eSIM is also market- and model-dependent. A Chinese eSIM model may not provide the same cellular support, languages, payment functions, warranty or software behavior as a global edition. Buyers importing one should confirm:
- The exact regional model and firmware.
- Available languages and eSIM bands or carrier support.
- NFC and payment compatibility with their bank.
- Warranty, repair and replacement coverage.
- Return terms and accessory compatibility.
Check the applicable local Xiaomi page—such as the UK, Singapore, UAE or Malaysia site—for local stock, colors, payments and pricing.
Who should buy the Xiaomi Watch S4?
The Watch S4 is most compelling for Xiaomi phone owners who want a bright AMOLED screen, GPS, extensive sports tracking, a rotating crown and long claimed battery life. The interchangeable bezel adds customization that many competing watches do not offer.
It is less suitable for buyers who prioritize Wear OS’s broader third-party app ecosystem, Apple-level iPhone integration, guaranteed NFC payments, third-party voice calls or dependable support for an imported model. Samsung may be a better Android ecosystem fit, while Apple Watch remains the stronger choice for iPhone integration. Those are different priorities rather than direct specification matches.
Verdict
The Xiaomi Watch S4 remains a strong hardware proposition: its 47mm model offers a high-brightness AMOLED display, useful physical controls, interchangeable bezels, GPS and an unusually long manufacturer battery claim. The important qualifications are equally clear. The 1,500-nit number is an HBM rating, 2,200 nits is an advertised peak figure, gestures are conditional, and HyperOS 2 features work best inside Xiaomi’s own ecosystem.
