If you own a Galaxy Watch Ultra, turn on Double pinch at Settings → Buttons and gestures → Double pinch. Pinch your thumb and index finger together twice on the hand wearing the watch to use available shortcuts—such as answering a call or dismissing an alarm. It is a contextual shortcut, not a way to control every screen without touching it.
What Double pinch does
Double pinch is a touch-free shortcut: quickly bring the thumb and index finger of the watch-wearing hand together twice. Samsung lists answering calls, dismissing alarms, controlling music, taking photos, launching apps or features, and actions in compatible apps among its uses. What the gesture does depends on the screen and the action currently available; it is not a universal replacement for tapping or swiping.
Samsung documents the feature for the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Menu labels and behavior can vary by model, software version, app, and region, so instructions may not match every Galaxy Watch exactly. Samsung’s current U.S. product page calls the device the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025).

Turn it on from the watch
- Open Settings on the watch.
- Tap Buttons and gestures.
- Under Gestures, tap Double pinch.
- Turn the setting on.
- Try it when a compatible action is on screen—for example, during an incoming call or while an alarm is ringing.
Samsung’s support instructions use this path. If you cannot find the setting, search Settings for “gestures” and check that you are looking at the watch paired in the companion app.

Turn it on in Galaxy Wearable
- Open Galaxy Wearable on your phone.
- Tap Watch settings.
- Tap Buttons and gestures.
- Enable Double pinch.
App labels can shift between software releases. If the option is hard to locate in the phone app, use the watch’s Settings menu instead.
Where to use the gesture
- Incoming calls: Double pinch can answer a call received by the watch. Test it while a call is actually ringing; trying it from the watch face will not answer a call that is not there.
- Alarms: It can dismiss a ringing alarm. Samsung’s update notes also describe actions in contextual controls, but the available choice depends on what the screen presents.
- Music: It can control music from a compatible media context. Do not assume every music app offers the same command or responds in the same way.
- Camera: It can take photos in a compatible camera-control setup. This does not mean the gesture operates any camera app on its own; the relevant phone and watch camera controls need to be available.
- Notifications and other controls: Samsung’s software update notes describe scrolling notifications and interacting with the Now bar and other contextual controls. Availability depends on the screen and software.
What the small finger icon means
Some on-screen buttons can show a small finger icon when Double pinch is available for that control. Treat it as a prompt that the visible button may respond to the gesture—not as a promise that Double pinch works throughout the app. If no icon or compatible action is present, use touch or another control.

Double pinch is not Universal Gestures
Samsung has two similarly named features. For quick actions such as answering calls or dismissing alarms, start with the native Double pinch switch under Buttons and gestures. Universal Gestures is a separate accessibility system intended for broader hands-free navigation of the watch interface.

Samsung explains the separate accessibility feature in its Universal Gestures overview. Do not enable Universal Gestures just to get the native Double pinch shortcut; its navigation behavior is different. Samsung’s documentation does not establish that the two systems behave identically or can be used interchangeably.

If Double pinch does not work
- No response: Confirm Double pinch is enabled, then test it while stationary on a screen with a supported action. The watch must be worn on the hand making the gesture.
- It works in one place but not another: That can be expected. The gesture is contextual; look for the finger icon or a control that is visibly available to activate.
- The setting is missing: Check Settings → Software update on the watch, then return to Buttons and gestures. Update Galaxy Wearable on the phone, and confirm it is connected to the intended watch. Restarting the watch and phone is also a reasonable troubleshooting step, though it cannot guarantee that a feature is supported on a particular model or software build.
- It triggers an unexpected action: Check which control is active on the screen and whether you are using Universal Gestures rather than the native shortcut. Try again while stationary, with a clear double pinch, on a known supported screen.
- Recognition feels inconsistent: A loose fit or movement may make the gesture harder to perform. If touch is more predictable for you, use the screen, the watch’s buttons, the Ultra’s Quick button, or voice control where available. You can also switch Double pinch off if accidental triggers outweigh the convenience.
Is it worth enabling?
If you already own the Ultra, it is reasonable to switch Double pinch on and see whether its supported actions fit your routine. It can reduce the need to touch the display when you are carrying something, exercising, or managing a call or alarm one-handed. It may also help people who find precise touch input difficult, although the broader Universal Gestures feature is designed for hands-free navigation.
If the gesture feels unpredictable or you rarely encounter supported controls, leaving it off is equally sensible. And if you are shopping for a watch, do not choose the Ultra solely for Double pinch: Samsung documents gesture support across other models too, with behavior dependent on model and software. Compare the watch’s size, durability, battery, connectivity, and other features as well. Check support for the specific model and software version you plan to buy.
