Omega advertising has moved from a symbolic claim of universality to appeals built around reliability, sport, design and famous wearers. One example is documented in Omega’s own history: its chronicle dates the first advertisement carrying the Omega name and symbol to 1895. Later examples below are identified in a specialist seller’s catalog, so their dates and wording should be read as catalog descriptions—not as independently verified archival records.
How to read this selection
“Remarkable” is an editorial judgment, not an official Omega ranking. Omega’s historical page documents the 1895 advertisement; the later examples are listings in Vintage Watch Ads, a commercial catalog that disclaims affiliation with the brands. The catalog identifies collectible pieces, but does not establish their original publication venues or complete provenance. Its titles are useful clues to what an ad may have said, not proof of campaign wording.
The eleven items include ten catalog-listed artifacts and the official 1895 example. One catalog item is an enamel advertising sign rather than a print ad, so it is included as a boundary case rather than passed off as a print advertisement. The original images and publication details are not established by the available descriptions.
1. The 1895 ad that introduced the Omega name and symbol
Omega’s Japanese-language chronicle dates its first advertisement carrying the Omega name and symbol to 1895. It describes Chronos holding a pocket watch while astride a globe and pointing toward the Omega name on the globe—a visual that connects the brand with universality. This is the strongest-documented example in this selection because the date and description come from Omega’s own historical chronicle. Read Omega’s chronicle entry.

2. The 1960s Seamaster Cosmic Calendar-Day ad
Vintage Watch Ads lists a 1960s Seamaster Cosmic Calendar-Day print advertisement. The catalog identification makes it a promising example of Omega promoting a specific Seamaster variant, but it does not establish the ad’s original publication date, venue, or full copy. Without those details, the model name is the secure point of comparison—not a broader claim about the campaign’s reach or message. See the specialist catalog.
3. A 1960s Dutch Speedmaster ad
The catalog lists a 1960s Dutch-language Speedmaster advertisement under the line “Hier is alleen het betrouwbaarste horloge goed genoeg,” which translates roughly as “Only the most reliable watch is good enough.” The seller’s title suggests a reliability appeal, but the wording has not been independently checked against an original scan, and the catalog does not establish publication context. It is best treated as a seller-transcribed line rather than a confirmed Omega campaign slogan.

4. The 1974 Dutch Olympics-related ad
A separate catalog entry describes a 1974 Dutch Omega print ad related to the Olympics, with the seller’s title referring to “iconic timepieces and stopwatches used in the Olympics.” That wording frames Omega through sports timing and Olympic association. The listing alone does not show which event or publication carried the ad, nor does it independently authenticate the date or transcription.
5. The 1975 Speedmaster and the language of trust
The seller lists a 1975 Speedmaster ad with the line “Saying that Omega is the most trustworthy watch on Earth is something of an understatement.” The copy, as transcribed in the catalog, turns reliability into a deliberately emphatic claim. It is a striking example of the kind of brand voice that can be compared with the Dutch Speedmaster listing, but neither title establishes that the two belong to a coordinated campaign.

6. The 1984 Constellation “Claws” ad
Vintage Watch Ads lists a 1984 Constellation advertisement identified as “Claws.” The nickname points to the Constellation’s distinctive design language, but the catalog description by itself does not verify what was shown in the original layout or how the campaign explained the feature. Omega’s later design-history book for the Seamaster is not a source for this Constellation advertisement: it concerns Seamaster design, not a collection of ads.
7. The 1990s Moonwatch ad
The catalog lists a 1990s double-page Moonwatch advertisement carrying the line “The First and Only Watch Worn on the Moon.” Its appeal is clear from the seller-transcribed title: a link between the Speedmaster and lunar exploration. The available catalog description does not establish the precise publication year or venue, so the 1990s date should remain attributed to the listing rather than treated as a verified original issue date.

8. The 1992 Speedmaster ad
A second Speedmaster listing is dated 1992 and titled “Definitly not for the quiet life”—with that spelling as displayed by the seller. The phrase signals a more energetic, adventurous tone than the trust-centered wording attributed to the 1975 ad. Because it is a catalog transcription, preserve the displayed spelling when referring to the listing and avoid presenting it as confirmed original copy.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.9. The 1999 Speedmaster and Michael Schumacher
The catalog also lists a 1999 Speedmaster ad titled “Michael Schumacher’s Choice.” It places a named racing driver at the center of the appeal, linking the watch to motorsport rather than relying only on technical or exploration associations. The listing does not independently establish the original publication details or verify the ad’s precise wording.

10. The 1999 Seamaster, Pierce Brosnan and James Bond
A separate 1999 listing pairs the Seamaster with Pierce Brosnan and James Bond. That identifies the ad’s celebrity and film-character associations, but the catalog description does not provide enough evidence to specify the original campaign, publication, or exact visual treatment. It should not be conflated with the 1999 Schumacher/Speedmaster listing: the catalog presents them as distinct watch-and-person pairings.
11. The Omega enamel advertising sign
The final catalog item is an Omega enamel advertising sign, not a print advertisement. It belongs in a broader look at Omega advertising artifacts, but not in a strict list of eleven print ads. The catalog description does not establish where or when the sign was displayed; its value here is as a reminder that advertising heritage includes physical signage as well as magazine-style placements.
What the timeline adds—and what it cannot prove
Omega’s Speedmaster timeline helps place some of the catalog’s model references in product history. The brand lists the Broad Arrow in 1957, a third generation in 1963, the Moonwatch in 1967, Racing Dial and Ultraman models in 1968, and the commemorative model, Mark II and Alaska I prototype in 1969. Those are model milestones, not dates for particular advertisements. They provide context for the watches an ad might feature, but do not authenticate a seller-listed ad or prove when it appeared. See Omega’s Speedmaster timeline.
For Seamaster design context, Omega’s press room announced a book for the collection’s 70th anniversary with more than 200 exclusive watch portraits. That figure refers to portraits of watches, not advertisements, and the book is not described as an ad anthology. Read Omega’s announcement.

A catalog listing can help identify an object and surface possible wording, but it is not the same as establishing an ad’s publication history or authenticity. Omega’s 2019 Certificate of Authenticity initiative concerns vintage timepieces; it does not authenticate paper advertisements offered by sellers. Read Omega’s announcement about the certificate.
Quick Recap
- Omega’s chronicle is the source for the 1895 date and its description of the first name-and-symbol advertisement.
- The seller catalog is the source for the later item descriptions and transcribed lines; it disclaims brand affiliation.
- Neither model-history milestones nor a watch-authentication program should be treated as independent proof of a paper ad’s original date, venue, copy or provenance.
