XREAL AURA is a genuine Android XR spatial computer, not merely a pair of display glasses. Its optical-see-through glasses connect by wire to a separate compute puck that runs Android XR, while an XREAL X1S coprocessor handles spatial work in the glasses. XREAL announced the product as Android XR’s second official device and the platform’s first optical-see-through XR device; Google later described it as XREAL’s first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR and Snapdragon Reality Elite.
What XREAL AURA actually is
AURA combines two pieces: lightweight glasses that place digital imagery over the wearer’s direct view of the world, and a pocketable computer puck connected by cable. That architecture distinguishes it from a simple USB-C monitor worn on your face. The puck supplies Snapdragon Reality Elite computing for Android XR, while the glasses include the XREAL X1S spatial coprocessor and the sensors needed to anchor content in space.
XREAL’s May 2025 announcement called AURA Android XR’s second official device. Google’s 2026 description identifies it as XREAL’s first wired XR glasses on Android XR. In practical terms, it belongs to the full spatial-computing category: it can run an operating system, track the environment, accept hand input and use context-aware software, rather than only mirror a phone or laptop screen.
How the glasses-and-puck design works
The glasses
The glasses use XREAL’s 70° X Prism optical-see-through display. You continue looking directly at the physical environment; digital windows and objects are added to that view instead of replacing it with a camera feed. XREAL lists Sony Micro-OLED panels at 1920 × 1200 pixels per eye and refresh rates up to 120 Hz.

Two world-facing tracking cameras provide environmental awareness for 6DoF spatial anchoring. The frame also includes hand tracking, a camera privacy LED, five levels of electrochromic transparency and a four-microphone array. The privacy LED is intended to show when the camera is active, while the electrochromic system lets the wearer adjust how much of the outside scene comes through.
The compute puck
The separate puck runs Android XR on Snapdragon Reality Elite. XREAL lists two memory and storage combinations:
| Configuration | Memory | Storage | Battery listed by XREAL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base configuration | 12 GB | 256 GB | 4,455 mAh (34.84 Wh) |
| Higher configuration | 16 GB | 512 GB |
The puck’s battery capacity is a specification, not a runtime estimate. XREAL has not established an independent battery-life measurement or a guaranteed number of hours per charge. Connectivity listed for the system includes USB-C, DisplayPort input, Wi‑Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Does AURA need the puck?
Yes. AURA is designed as a wired glasses-plus-puck system, and the puck provides the Android XR and Snapdragon Reality Elite compute. The glasses are therefore not a self-contained headset. That can reduce the electronics and weight carried on the face, but it also means carrying the puck and managing its cable.

What you see and how you interact
| Capability | AURA specification or claim | What it means for use |
|---|---|---|
| Viewing method | Optical see-through | The real world remains visible directly rather than through cameras. |
| Field of view | 70° X Prism | Digital content occupies a wider view than many narrow display-glasses designs, although the perceived result depends on fit and content. |
| Image panels | Sony Micro-OLED, 1920 × 1200 pixels per eye | Each eye receives its own high-resolution image. |
| Refresh rate | Up to 120 Hz | Supported content and software can use a high-refresh presentation; “up to” is not a guarantee that every app runs at 120 Hz. |
| Spatial tracking | Two world-facing cameras and 6DoF anchoring | Virtual windows can remain positioned as you move instead of staying fixed to the display. |
| Input | Hand tracking | Compatible interactions can use your hands rather than a dedicated controller. |
| Transparency | Five electrochromic levels | You can vary the lens transparency for different surroundings and tasks. |
AURA’s optical approach should not be confused with camera-passthrough headsets. In a passthrough device, cameras capture the outside world and screens show a processed version of it. AURA instead keeps the physical scene in direct view and overlays light from the display. That difference affects visual character, privacy considerations and how digital objects appear against real backgrounds.
Android XR, Gemini and the app ecosystem
Google Play and XR applications
XREAL says Google Play gives AURA access to millions of apps, including Google Maps, YouTube, Gemini, Chrome and Photos. The company also identifies more than 100 applications made specifically for XR. Compatibility and presentation can differ between ordinary mobile apps and software designed for spatial windows, so the Google Play total should not be read as millions of fully spatialized experiences.

Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 and older (Lightning) iPhones need an adapter. For long phone sessions, add the XREAL Hub to charge and watch at once.
What the demonstrations showed
At Google I/O 2026, XREAL and Google demonstrated spatial Google Maps, video multitasking with large and mini screens, and YouTube 180° and 360° material in both 2D and 3D. These demonstrations illustrate the intended range: anchored information in the environment, multiple virtual screens and immersive video, rather than a single floating monitor.
How Gemini uses context
Gemini is integrated through Android XR. With the wearer’s permission, Google says Gemini can interpret what the person is seeing, what is on the display and relevant surrounding context. That is a multimodal capability, not an always-on guarantee: access depends on permissions and the software’s handling of camera, screen and microphone data. The privacy LED and permission controls are therefore important parts of the user experience, especially in shared spaces.
When will XREAL AURA launch?
XREAL currently lists AURA as coming in Fall 2026. The company has not published a specific shipping date in the available product information, so “Fall 2026” is a target rather than a confirmed day that units will arrive. Final configurations and regional launch details can still change.

Is XREAL AURA on Amazon?
No official source in the available product information confirms an Amazon listing for AURA. XREAL’s own reservation and product pages are the confirmed channels for launch information. An Amazon page that appears before an official retail announcement should be treated as unverified until its seller, configuration, warranty and price match XREAL’s published details.
What is still unknown
- Actual battery life: XREAL lists 4,455 mAh (34.84 Wh) for the puck but gives no independently measured runtime here.
- Comfort and weight: No independent hands-on comfort assessment or long-session evaluation has been established.
- Final package contents: The available specifications do not settle which accessories, including prescription inserts, are included.
- Shipping date and regional rollout: Fall 2026 is the published target; exact dates and country-by-country availability remain subject to change.
- Retail pricing: US$1,500 before tax is the stated maximum for the base model, not a final price for every configuration or region.
Those gaps matter because AURA’s practical value will depend not only on its display and software specifications, but also on cable handling, battery endurance, fit, prescription options and the quality of Android XR applications at launch. Until independent testing and final retail details appear, the specifications above should be read as XREAL and Google claims rather than verified performance results.
