Preorders opened that day; retail availability followed on September 19, 2025, in the United States and more than 50 other countries and regions. U.S. launch prices started at $249 for SE 3, $399 for Series 11 and $799 for Ultra 3. The right choice depends less on the processor name than on battery needs, health hardware, case size and whether you will use Ultra-specific outdoor features.
Quick verdict
- Best value: Apple Watch SE 3. It brings an Always-On display, S10 chip, wrist-temperature sensing, sleep features and fast charging to the least expensive model.
- Best for most people: Apple Watch Series 11. It adds longer battery life, more health hardware, more sizes and finishes, and a slimmer everyday profile than Ultra 3.
- Best for demanding outdoor use: Apple Watch Ultra 3. Satellite communication, a 49mm titanium case, advanced navigation and up to 42 hours of rated battery life justify its price only for users who will use those capabilities.
What Apple announced on September 9, 2025
Apple presented all three watches at the same event, but they target different buyers. The announcement date was not the retail launch date: watchOS 26 arrived on September 15, preorders began September 9, and stores began selling the watches September 19. Apple’s official announcements are Series 11, SE 3 and Ultra 3.
Apple Watch Series 11
What changed
Series 11 is an evolution of the modern Apple Watch design rather than a wholesale redesign. It comes in 42mm and 46mm cases, with aluminum or polished titanium finishes, and supports 5G cellular models. Apple says the aluminum version’s Ion-X glass is twice as scratch-resistant as the previous generation’s glass. New headline features include hypertension notifications and Sleep Score.
Battery and price
Apple rates Series 11 for up to 24 hours, or up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode. Apple also says 15 minutes of charging can provide up to eight hours of battery life. These are manufacturer estimates; cellular use, GPS workouts, display settings, temperature and signal strength can reduce actual runtime. The U.S. launch price was $399 for a 42mm aluminum GPS model.

Who it suits
Series 11 is the strongest all-round option for buyers who want more health capability and endurance than SE 3 without the Ultra’s size and cost. It is particularly useful for people who track sleep, train regularly or want a titanium option. Hypertension notifications and ECG availability depend on regulatory clearance and region.
Apple Watch SE 3
A much more capable entry model
SE 3 received the S10 chip and an Always-On display, closing a major everyday gap with the regular Series line. It also adds wrist-temperature sensing, Sleep Score, sleep-apnea notifications, retrospective ovulation estimates, on-device Siri, Double Tap and wrist-flick gestures, plus an optional 5G cellular connection.
Charging, sizes and price
The watch comes in 40mm and 44mm aluminum cases. Apple rates it for up to 18 hours, or up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode. Apple says 15 minutes of charging can provide up to eight hours of daily use and that an approximately 80 percent charge takes about 45 minutes. The U.S. launch price was $249 for 40mm GPS; 44mm GPS started at $279, while GPS + Cellular versions started at $299 and $329 respectively.
What you give up
SE 3 is the budget choice, not a miniature Ultra. Its hardware and outdoor feature set are more limited, and you should not assume ECG or hypertension notifications simply because another Apple Watch has them. It is best for notifications, workouts, safety, sleep tracking and family use.

Apple Watch Ultra 3
Specialized hardware and communication
Ultra 3 retains a 49mm titanium case and adds Apple’s largest Apple Watch display, with thinner borders and a 1Hz always-on refresh rate. It includes an Action button, brighter outdoor viewing, advanced GPS and substantially stronger diving capability than the other models. Apple also introduced Emergency SOS via satellite, Messages via satellite and satellite location sharing.
Battery and price
Apple rates Ultra 3 for up to 42 hours, or up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode, and says 15 minutes of charging can provide up to 12 hours. The U.S. launch price was $799. Satellite functions depend on supported geography, sky visibility, emergency-service arrangements and Apple’s current terms; they are not an unlimited replacement for a dedicated satellite communicator.
Who should buy it
Ultra 3 makes sense for frequent hikers, divers, endurance athletes, expedition travelers and people who regularly spend time beyond cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. The 49mm case can be cumbersome on smaller wrists, and its premium is difficult to justify for ordinary notifications or gym workouts.

Health features in plain English
Hypertension notifications
This feature is designed to identify patterns that may be associated with chronic high blood pressure. It is a notification system, not a cuff and not a direct blood-pressure measurement. Apple said availability depends on FDA and other regulatory clearances.
Sleep Score and sleep-apnea notifications
Sleep Score is a software-derived assessment based on tracked sleep factors. Sleep-apnea notifications may flag patterns associated with sleep apnea, but neither feature diagnoses a condition or replaces clinical testing.
Wrist temperature and ovulation estimates
Wrist-temperature sensing contributes to cycle and other health features. Retrospective ovulation estimates are estimates based on recorded physiological data, not guaranteed fertility predictions. Accuracy depends on wearing habits, sensor data and software support.
Battery and charging trade-offs
The practical separation among the models is 18, 24 and 42 hours of Apple-rated use. Low Power Mode extends those figures to 32, 38 and 72 hours respectively, often by reducing or changing some functions. GPS workouts, cellular streaming, sleep tracking, temperature and weak signal conditions can all change results. Treat “up to” figures as laboratory-style manufacturer claims rather than guaranteed runtime.

Compatibility and ongoing costs
iPhone and software requirements
Apple says watchOS 26 requires Apple Watch Series 6 or later, Apple Watch SE (second generation) or later, or any Apple Watch Ultra, paired with an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. The new watches require an iPhone for the normal Apple Watch experience; they are not standard Android-compatible watches. Feature availability also varies by model, language and country. Apple’s support reference is Apple Support.
Cellular plans
5G-capable hardware does not provide free service. Cellular models generally require a compatible carrier and recurring plan. Check carrier bands, family-account rules and international roaming before paying extra; details are listed by Apple at Apple Watch cellular.
Subscriptions and protection
Apple Fitness+, Apple Music, cellular service and Oceanic+ are separate decisions. Apple’s launch promotion offered eligible new purchasers three months of Fitness+ and Apple Music in participating regions, not permanent free service. Verify current terms at Fitness+ and Apple Music. AppleCare+ may be more compelling for an expensive Ultra 3 or users at high risk of accidental damage; review coverage at AppleCare+.

Choose SE 3 when budget and simplicity matter
Buy SE 3 for notifications, workouts, safety, sleep tracking, an Always-On display and family use at the lowest entry price. It is also the sensible first Apple Watch for a child or older relative when ECG, titanium, satellite communication and maximum endurance are unnecessary.

Choose Series 11 for balanced everyday use
Series 11 is the better fit when overnight tracking, longer battery life, additional health hardware, more case choices or a lighter everyday design matter. Confirm that region-specific medical features are enabled before treating them as a purchase requirement.
Choose Ultra 3 for real outdoor demands
Pay for Ultra 3 if you hike or travel off-grid, dive, run long events or routinely need multi-day endurance and satellite emergency options. Do not buy it solely because it is the most expensive model.
Consider an alternative ecosystem if you use Android
Android users should evaluate Samsung Galaxy Watch, Garmin or Fitbit instead. Apple Watch’s strongest advantage is its iPhone integration, while Garmin emphasizes endurance and battery, Galaxy Watch supports Android and Samsung phones, and Fitbit focuses on simpler activity and sleep tracking.
Should you upgrade?
- From SE 2: SE 3 is a substantial step up through the Always-On display, S10 chip, wrist-temperature sensing, newer sleep features and faster charging.
- From Series 9 or Series 10: The case is weaker unless you specifically want longer battery life, 5G, hypertension notifications, the newer glass claim or a particular finish. Independent comparisons describe Series 11 as a relatively modest refinement over Series 10.
- From Ultra 1 or Ultra 2: Satellite communication, battery improvements, display changes and newer health features are the main reasons to upgrade. If your current Ultra already meets your endurance and outdoor needs, the incentive is smaller.
- From a much older watch: SE 3 maximizes value, while Series 11 is safer if you want more health hardware and a more premium display experience.
What the launch means in 2026
These watches launched in September 2025; September 19 is a past release date, not an upcoming one. The prices above are U.S. launch prices. August 2026 discounts, inventory, carrier terms, software support and any newer Apple Watch generation require a live check at Apple’s store and the relevant carrier. Apple’s product overview is apple.com/watch.
Bottom line
SE 3 is the value choice, Series 11 is the best fit for most iPhone owners, and Ultra 3 is a specialist tool for endurance and outdoor users. Match the watch to the feature you will use every week—not to the headline price or the longest specification list.
