If your Apple Watch keeps showing 100%, first check whether the same reading appears in Control Center, the Battery complication and Settings. Then restart the watch, check for a watchOS update, and verify the charger. Apple does not identify one confirmed cause or a universal fix for this symptom, so work through these checks before arranging service.
Confirm whether the reading is actually stuck
- Press the side button to open Control Center and note the battery percentage.
- Compare it with the Battery complication on your watch face, if you use one.
- Open Settings > Battery on the watch. Check the current level, charge graph and charging history.
Apple describes these battery views in its Apple Watch battery-level guide and battery-usage guide. If the percentage differs between views, or the graph shows changes while one display remains at 100%, note that discrepancy before continuing.
Restart the watch and check for an update
Restart normally first
Restart Apple Watch using Apple’s restart instructions. If the watch is unresponsive or the display remains fixed, force-restart it by holding the side button and Digital Crown together until the screen turns black and the Apple logo reappears.
Check watchOS
On the paired iPhone, open the Watch app and go to My Watch > General > Software Update. Install an available update by following Apple’s instructions. Apple notes that updating watchOS might fix an issue; an update is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed correction for an inaccurate percentage.

Check the charger, cable and alignment
A percentage that does not change can make it unclear whether the watch is charging as expected. Check the charging setup before concluding that the battery indicator itself is faulty:
- Use an Apple Magnetic Charging Cable or USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable.
- Make sure the charger magnets align with the back of the watch.
- Clean the watch back and charger, then reconnect them.
- If available, try another compatible cable and USB power adapter to check whether an accessory is involved.
Apple’s Apple Watch charging guidance covers its charging accessories and setup. Trying an Apple Watch magnetic charging cable can help check alignment and charging behavior, but changing cables is not a guaranteed fix for a stuck reading.

Check Battery Health
On the watch, open Settings > Battery > Battery Health and review Maximum Capacity. Apple says, “Apple Watch alerts you when battery capacity is significantly reduced, allowing you to check your service options.” See Apple’s Battery Health guide for details.
Battery Health is useful for checking battery condition, but it does not by itself establish why a displayed percentage is staying at 100%.

Unpair and pair again only after the basic checks
If the reading still appears wrong after restarting, updating and checking the charging setup, unpairing and pairing the watch again is a more involved software troubleshooting step. Use the Watch app on the paired iPhone and follow Apple’s unpairing and erasing instructions. Restore from a backup if the option is offered during setup. Unlike a restart or cable check, this step involves setup and a backup, so do not begin it casually.

Fixes that are not established for this symptom
Draining the watch to zero, repeating battery recalibration cycles, turning on Low Power Mode or disabling Background App Refresh are not established fixes for a percentage stuck at 100%. Apple’s guidance describes Low Power Mode and background-refresh controls as ways to manage battery life, not to correct inaccurate percentage reporting.
