For Galaxy Watch4 and later, watch faces are installed through Google Play, not the Galaxy Store. Because current evidence does not confirm ten specific faces are still free and compatible across Galaxy Watch generations, the safest approach is to browse faces compatible with your watch, check each listing’s price and device support, then install and activate the one you want.
Use Galaxy Wearable on your phone or browse directly on the watch. If a face downloads but does not appear automatically, select it from the watch’s face picker or Galaxy Wearable’s downloaded faces.
Where to find Galaxy Watch faces
Store choice depends on the watch’s operating system. Wear OS Galaxy Watch models use Google Play for faces; older Tizen models use the Galaxy Store. Samsung’s current instructions show these paths:

Samsung’s Wear OS face instructions and watch-side instructions describe the current paths. For older Tizen watches, Samsung documents a separate Galaxy Store flow.

How to choose a free face
- Open the appropriate store. For Wear OS watches, browse through Galaxy Wearable or Google Play. For supported older Tizen models, use Galaxy Store.
- Check the listing. Confirm the face is currently free if price matters, and verify that the listing supports your specific watch. Compatibility should not be assumed across generations or case sizes.
- Review requirements and storage. Check whether the listing mentions any requirements, and make sure the watch has enough available storage before installing.
- Choose a layout that suits you. Consider whether the time and any information you want to see are easy to read on your watch. Available complications and customization vary by face.
This guide does not label ten named faces as verified free picks: the available research does not establish current price or model compatibility for specific listings. Check those details in Google Play when choosing.
How to download and apply a Wear OS watch face
From Galaxy Wearable on your phone
- Open Galaxy Wearable and go to Store, then choose Explore Wear OS watch faces. Samsung also documents a Watch faces section for Galaxy Watch5.
- Select a face and install it through Google Play. Confirm that the listing shows your watch as a compatible device.
- If installation completes but the face is not active, open Galaxy Wearable → Watch faces → Downloaded and tap the face. Samsung’s developer instructions say this adds it to Favorites and activates it.
- To select an installed face, open Galaxy Wearable → Watch faces and tap the face you want. It should appear on the watch.
Directly on the watch
- Touch and hold the current face, then tap Add watch face. Scroll to More watch faces to open Google Play, or swipe up and open Play Store → Watch faces.
- Select a face and tap Install.
- To activate it if needed, touch and hold the current face, swipe left to Add watch face, continue until the new face appears, then tap it.
Samsung’s face management instructions explain applying installed faces and browsing Google Play from Galaxy Wearable. Its developer guidance explains why a Play Store download may need a separate activation step.

Customize an installed face
On the phone, open Galaxy Wearable → Watch faces, select an installed face, choose Customize if that option is available, make changes, and save. On the watch, touch and hold the face and tap Customize when shown. Not every face supports customization, and only faces installed on the watch can be customized from Galaxy Wearable. Samsung’s customization instructions describe these limits.
Troubleshooting downloads
The watch does not appear as an install option
Check that the phone and watch are connected. Samsung recommends closing and reopening Google Play; if the device still does not appear, try turning the watch’s Wi-Fi off and back on. Its developer guidance also recommends using the same Google account on the phone and watch and connecting them to the same Wi-Fi for reliable transfer.

The download is still pending
Samsung notes that installation can take several minutes and may remain at “Install pending.” Some purchases may take longer to synchronize. Avoid buying the same face again from the watch while a phone-initiated purchase is syncing. You can check transfer progress by tapping the Download icon on the watch-face screen.
The face installed but is not active
Choose it from Galaxy Wearable → Watch faces → Downloaded, or use the watch’s face picker and tap the new face. A download and activation may be separate steps.

Installation fails for lack of space
Check available watch storage before trying again. Samsung’s support guidance for Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 specifically advises verifying that there is sufficient storage for additional faces.

Will a face that works on one Galaxy Watch work on every model?
Not necessarily. Check the individual Google Play listing for compatibility with your watch; compatibility should not be assumed across generations.
Why did my downloaded face not become active?
On Wear OS, downloading and activating can be separate. Select the face from Galaxy Wearable’s Downloaded section or use the watch’s Add watch face picker.
Do I need a companion phone app for a face to work?
No. Samsung’s developer guidance says companion apps may be offered but are not required for a watch face to function.
Can I use these Wear OS instructions on an older Galaxy Watch Active?
No. Galaxy Watch Active, Active2, and Watch3 use Tizen and have a separate Galaxy Store installation flow. These Wear OS instructions apply to Galaxy Watch4 and later.
