Casio’s MRG-D5000 Blue Sapphire takes the familiar square G-SHOCK silhouette into the premium MR-G collection with a bezel made entirely from blue sapphire crystal. Announced on 1 October 2026, the watch pairs that unusual material with a screwless, multi-component construction that Casio says is designed to preserve shock resistance. The company plans a December 2026 release and says only 20 watches will be available worldwide.
What is the MRG-D5000 Blue Sapphire?
The MRG-D5000 is a limited-edition model in Casio’s MR-G collection, the brand’s premium G-SHOCK line. Its central visual change is the bezel: Casio describes it as rendered entirely in blue sapphire crystal, set around the recognizable square form associated with G-SHOCK. The announcement coincides with the MR-G collection’s 30th anniversary in 2026; the anniversary refers to the collection, not to this specific watch.
Casio’s launch announcement calls out a “screwless, multi-component structure” alongside the sapphire bezel. This is a construction intended to accommodate sapphire components in a shock-resistant watch, rather than simply a conventional metal bezel with a blue finish. The shock-resistance claim is Casio’s specification, not an independently verified test result. Casio’s 1 October 2026 announcement introduces the model and its stated construction.
How the sapphire design changes the square G-SHOCK
Blue sapphire bezel
The bezel’s all-sapphire construction is the defining feature. It gives the familiar square profile a different material character from the more conventional metal or resin treatments associated with the shape, while retaining the watch’s G-SHOCK identity. The source material establishes the bezel as sapphire crystal; it does not provide a basis for claims about scratch performance, clarity under particular lighting, or how the watch looks in person.

Screwless, multi-component build
Casio says it developed a screwless multi-component structure for this design. That detail matters because sapphire is being incorporated into a watch whose listed specification includes shock resistance. Casio presents the structure as part of the engineering solution, but published launch information does not give independent impact-test results or a detailed account of the assembly method.
T3’s report, published on 1 October 2026, describes the project as an eight-year engineering effort and says Casio had shown a sapphire concept in 2018 that did not then meet shock-resistance requirements. That chronology is secondary reporting; Casio’s launch release does not independently document it. T3’s coverage provides that development context.

Price and availability
The official Casio pages cited here do not establish a retail price or general marketplace stock. With only 20 pieces announced worldwide and US access conditional on final terms, the available information does not support treating the MRG-D5000 as an ordinary retail or Amazon release. Check Casio’s local product page for current regional terms; availability may differ by market.
Who is this watch for?
The MRG-D5000 is most notable for bringing an all-blue-sapphire bezel and a specialized construction approach to a square G-SHOCK, within a very small edition. Its listed 200-meter water resistance, solar charging and radio-controlled time adjustment are useful specifications, but the evidence available for this announcement does not establish independent performance testing or a confirmed price. For prospective buyers, the first practical question is whether Casio’s regional process offers a purchase opportunity at all.
