The Citizen Promaster Aqualand BJ2169-88E is a large, feature-rich Eco-Drive dive watch whose depth display tops out at 50 metres, while its separate water-resistance rating is 200 m/20 bar. Those figures describe different things. Citizen’s published specifications also list a 46 mm steel case, a 22 mm polyurethane strap and a Lifeline JAWZ titanium rescue tool in the special-edition set. It is worth considering if those features suit your needs, but the published specifications alone cannot establish how it wears or performs in use.
What the BJ2169-88E offers
Citizen Watch Canada identifies the exact reference as BJ2169-88E and lists a B740 Eco-Drive movement powered by light. Its functions include an auto-start dive mode, a depth display, maximum-depth memory, a chronograph, 12/24-hour time, a power-reserve indicator and a date. Depth display and water resistance are not the same
The depth display is specified to show depth up to 50 metres. Separately, Citizen rates the watch for 200 m/20 bar water resistance and describes it as suitable for swimming, marine sports and scuba diving. A 200 m water-resistance rating does not mean the watch’s depth display can measure to 200 metres: its stated display range is 50 metres. Follow the watch’s official instructions and appropriate dive practices; these specifications alone are not operating or dive-safety guidance.
Citizen Watch Global made the same distinction in a 2021 announcement about a related Promaster Aqualand family: “The newest diver’s watches in the PROMASTER collection have ISO-compliant water resistance up to 200 meters and feature a depth meter with a dedicated depth gauge hand capable of measuring up to 50 meters.” That release names BJ2167-03E, BJ2169-08E and BJ2168-01E, not BJ2169-88E, so it provides family context rather than proof of the 88E’s specifications. Chronograph and timekeeping functions
Citizen specifies a 1-second chronograph that measures up to 50 minutes. The watch also displays 12- or 24-hour time and includes a date and power-reserve indicator. The published product page does not establish independent accuracy, battery-life or performance results.
Case size, weight and strap fit
The listed stainless-steel case measures 46 mm across and the watch weighs 152.24 g. Citizen gives the lug width as 22 mm and specifies a polyurethane strap. These figures make the BJ2169-88E a substantial watch on paper; actual comfort and fit depend on the wearer and have not been assessed hands-on here.

The 22 mm lug width is a useful starting point when looking for another strap, but width alone does not confirm compatibility. Attachment geometry, buckle fit and the replacement strap’s suitability also matter. No aftermarket strap has been verified for this reference.
Materials and special-edition set
Citizen lists a sapphire crystal and a one-way rotating aluminum bezel. It describes the BJ2169-88E as a special-edition set that includes a Lifeline JAWZ titanium rescue tool. Because a seller may describe or supply a listing differently, check that the particular listing is for the exact 88E reference and confirms the tool and other included contents before buying.

Is the Citizen Promaster Aqualand BJ2169-88E worth buying?
On specifications, its case size, depth display, separate 200 m/20 bar water-resistance rating, Eco-Drive movement and stated rescue-tool inclusion give it a clear feature set. It makes the most sense for a buyer who specifically wants those functions and is comfortable with a 46 mm, 152.24 g watch. The same dimensions may be a drawback for someone seeking a smaller or lighter watch.
