Could We See a Pebble Comeback Soon? Pebble Is Already Back

Yes—but the comeback is already happening. As of August 2026, Core Devices is selling new Pebble watches: the Pebble Time 2 is listed as in stock, the Pebble Round 2 is taking orders for September shipment, and the Pebble 2 Duo is sold out. This is a return of the Pebble brand and its open-source watch platform, not the original company restored to its former scale.

What happened to the original Pebble?

Pebble became an early smartwatch success through Kickstarter, selling more than 2 million devices before the business closed in 2016. Fitbit acquired Pebble’s remaining assets; Google later acquired Fitbit. The original hardware business ended, but Pebble’s users and developers kept the platform’s ideas alive through community projects including Rebble. TechCrunch’s account of the reboot and WIRED’s background provide context.

Who is bringing Pebble back?

Eric Migicovsky, Pebble’s original founder, is leading the revival through Core Devices, a new, small company. The PebbleOS code was open-sourced after Google acquired Fitbit, giving the reboot a software foundation and a community to build on. The company’s store identity is rePebble; Core Devices is the operating company, not a continuation of the original Pebble corporation.

Core Devices describes its goal as making focused, customizable companions to a phone rather than trying to put a smartphone on the wrist. Its business is deliberately unlike a conventional venture-backed push for mass-market scale: it is a tiny, direct-to-consumer operation, with production shaped substantially by preorder demand. TechCrunch’s January 2026 interview discusses that approach.

Which Pebble watches can you order now?

Prices and availability below reflect the official store and product pages checked in August 2026. Shipping windows are live listings, not guarantees; check the official product page before ordering.

Model Price and availability Key features Official battery information
Pebble Time 2 $225; listed in stock and shipping within 48 hours 1.5-inch, 64-color e-paper display; touchscreen and four buttons; stainless-steel frame; heart-rate sensor, speaker and microphone; iPhone and Android support About 30 days estimated

Pebble 2 Duo Sold out; not currently available from the official store Black-and-white display and basic Pebble-style functions The company’s July 2026 update reported median battery life above 30 days after software optimization

Battery figures are company estimates or reported medians, not guarantees for every wearer. Pebble says backlight use, animated watchfaces and health tracking affect runtime. Its July 2026 update gives the 2 Duo figure and related qualifications.

Pebble Time 2: the most capable current watch

Time 2 is the choice for buyers who want the broadest feature set in the current Pebble line, including heart-rate sensing, a speaker and microphone alongside color e-paper and physical controls. It is not an old watch pulled from storage: it is the modern successor to the Pebble Time 2 design that was canceled in 2016, built for the reopened PebbleOS ecosystem. It makes the most sense if those extra features matter more than a round case or a thinner design.

Pebble Round 2: the style-first option

Round 2 trades sensors and runtime for a rounder, slimmer, more conventional watch silhouette. The announcement describes four configurations with different finishes and 14 mm or 20 mm strap widths. It suits someone who values that look and does not need heart-rate tracking or a speaker. The company’s Round 2 announcement details its design and configurations.

Pebble 2 Duo: closest to the original idea, but sold out

The black-and-white 2 Duo is the closest rebooted model to the old Pebble 2 concept. Its official store listing was sold out when checked, so it is not a current purchase recommendation unless availability changes.

Why Pebble still appeals

Pebble’s proposition is restraint, not feature-for-feature competition with Apple Watch or Garmin. Its reflective e-paper display stays visible without the usual smartwatch screen experience; physical buttons provide direct controls; and notification handling, music control, watchfaces and watchapps cover many everyday needs without turning the wrist into another phone screen. Pebble supports iPhone and Android, and its customizable, community-oriented software is part of the appeal. See the official specifications.

  • Look elsewhere if you need GPS sports tracking, NFC payments, cellular service, extensive health monitoring, broad voice-assistant support, or extensive messaging replies.

How much of the software ecosystem is back?

The ecosystem is more than a nostalgic interface. PebbleOS is open source, and the company’s July 2026 update counted 2,120 apps and watchfaces created for Time 2 and Round 2. Separately, the broader Pebble App Store is advertised as having approximately 15,000 watchfaces and watchapps. Those figures describe different scopes: the newer-model count is not the size of the entire store. SDK work continued in 2026, including capabilities related to touchscreen, speaker, RGB backlight, JavaScript and debugging. Pebble’s July update and its developer documentation outline the platform.

“Open source” does not mean every part of the experience is independent of Core Devices. The watch operating system, companion mobile app, app and watchface store, cloud services, developer infrastructure and support for older Pebble hardware are distinct pieces. A healthy platform still needs working phone apps and update infrastructure, as well as developers and users.

What else is part of the revival?

Core Devices has also introduced Index 01, an AI-oriented smart ring marketed as an external-memory device. It is an expansion beyond watches, not a smartwatch. In its July 2026 update, the company said the ring was in mass production and that most preorders were expected to ship by the end of August, with some size and color variants expected in September. The Pebble app’s related features include reminders, integrations with Obsidian, Google Tasks and Calendar, Android music control, webhooks, recordings and transcriptions. The official store and the July update carry the latest listed information.

Is Pebble an alternative to Apple Watch or Garmin?

Only if “alternative” means a different set of priorities. Pebble’s product page explicitly says it is not intended to compete with Apple Watch and is not aimed at people seeking a fitness or sports watch. Think in terms of what you need from your wrist, not which device wins a feature checklist.

If your priority is… Consider…
Notifications, watchfaces, buttons, long battery life and a lower-distraction experience Pebble
Deep iPhone integration, replies, apps, payments and broad health features Apple Watch
GPS workouts, training metrics and endurance tracking Garmin
Full smartwatch features for an Android phone Wear OS models
A minimalist, fashion-forward watch with fewer smart features Pebble Round 2

The Round 2’s omissions are particularly relevant: it has no heart-rate sensor or speaker, and Pebble as a line is not positioned around GPS, payments or serious sports tracking. Android Central’s Round 2 coverage also describes the stripped-down trade-off.

What could still go wrong?

Availability and fulfillment

Inventory differs sharply by model: the 2 Duo was sold out, Time 2 was listed as shipping within 48 hours, and Round 2 orders were listed for September. A small production run and changing stock mean buyers should check the live store rather than rely on an older announcement.

Support depends on a small operation

A tiny team has less redundancy in engineering, manufacturing, customer service and cloud operations than a major electronics company. That is a continuity risk implied by the company’s size and direct-sales model, not evidence that it is about to fail. Open-source software and community participation help, but they do not remove the need to maintain phone apps, update systems and developer services.

Limited features are both the point and the ceiling

Pebble’s long-runtime, low-distraction approach involves saying no to features some buyers consider essential. Anyone expecting Apple Watch-style replies, payments, GPS, cellular connectivity or advanced health monitoring may find the deliberate scope too narrow.

Early interest does not establish long-term success

Product availability, app counts and production updates show that the revival is active; they do not establish lasting profitability, mainstream market share or long-term ecosystem health. Core Devices remains a focused enthusiast hardware business rather than a return to Pebble’s former market position.

Who should buy a new Pebble?

  • Choose Time 2 if you want the most capable current Pebble and value heart-rate sensing, a speaker and microphone, and the longer listed battery estimate.
  • Choose Round 2 if the round design and slimmer profile matter more than those features, and you can accept its shorter listed battery range and September shipping window.
  • Wait for a 2 Duo restock if that black-and-white model is specifically what you want.
  • Wait for longer-term reliability evidence if you are unsure about the app ecosystem or prefer not to buy from a very small hardware company.
  • Choose another category if sports tracking, extensive health tools, payments or deep phone integration matter more than battery life and simplicity.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
