Blancpain’s 38 mm Fifty Fathoms Automatique is reference 5007, a five-version collection spanning stainless steel, grade 23 titanium and 18 ct red gold. The rollout happened in stages: two mother-of-pearl editions were announced on June 12, 2025, followed by an expanded classic-line presentation that counted those watches among five 38 mm configurations. The watches are not necessarily new as of 2026, but the launch established a new 38 mm size within the Automatique range.
What is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 38 mm?
Reference 5007 is the 38 mm Fifty Fathoms Automatique. Blancpain says the proportions were reworked rather than simply scaled down, and positions the size alongside 42 mm and 45 mm Automatique options. The practical question is fit: diameter alone does not determine how a Fifty Fathoms wears. Thickness, lug span, bracelet or strap, case material and the resulting weight all matter.
Blancpain’s June 2025 documents describe a collection aimed at a broader range of wrists. Marc A. Hayek, Blancpain’s President & CEO, described the expansion as a response to what the company calls “clear demand.” That is a brand statement, not a published market-demand measurement.
Which versions are available?
The expanded line comprises five versions. Blancpain’s document distinguishes them by case metal and finishing, dial and bezel color, and the available strap or bracelet treatment. Exact equipment can vary by reference configuration and market, so confirm the current catalogue or an authorized dealer before treating a particular strap or bracelet as included.

The black and pink mother-of-pearl watches were introduced the week before Blancpain’s expanded five-version document. That staged rollout explains why one announcement discusses two expressive editions while the later material counts five models.
What are the technical specifications?
Movement and display
For the expanded classic models, Blancpain specifies its Manufacture calibre 1150: automatic winding, a 3 Hz balance frequency, a 100-hour power reserve and a silicon balance spring. The functions are hours, minutes, seconds and date. A sapphire caseback shows the movement finishing and an 18 ct gold rotor with NAC coating.
The June 12 announcement for the initial pink and black mother-of-pearl editions names calibre 1153 and also gives a 100-hour power reserve. Because the two official documents identify different calibres, do not assume that every reference 5007 configuration uses calibre 1150 or that every one uses calibre 1153 without checking the individual model documentation.
Case, bezel and water resistance
Blancpain’s official expansion material calls the case 38 mm. Hodinkee’s launch report gives a 38.2 mm diameter and 12.0 mm thickness, along with stainless steel, grade 23 titanium and 18k red gold case options. Those are launch-report dimensions, while the official technical document uses the rounded 38 mm designation.

The June 12 Blancpain release states 300-meter water resistance and a unidirectional domed sapphire bezel for the first pink and black mother-of-pearl models. Hodinkee reported 300 meters for reference 5007 more generally, but that broader formulation should not override the configuration-specific wording in Blancpain’s release. Check the current model page for the exact watch you are considering.
Hodinkee also describes luminous dial markers and a color-matched date window. The domed sapphire bezel is a defining Fifty Fathoms element, but bezel, dial and case details should still be confirmed against the exact configuration.

How does the 38 mm compare with the 42 mm and 45 mm Fifty Fathoms?
Blancpain identifies 38, 42 and 45 mm Automatique case-size options. The available material does not establish a complete, same-source specification table for all three sizes, nor does it provide controlled wrist testing. A smaller diameter therefore should not be treated as a universal upgrade or a guarantee of a particular fit.
- Diameter and lug span: compare both, since lug reach can change perceived size more than the nominal diameter.
- Thickness: the launch report’s 12.0 mm figure applies to ref. 5007 as reported by Hodinkee; do not transfer it automatically to other sizes.
- Material and mass: steel, titanium and red gold produce different weights and wrist presence even at the same diameter.
- Bracelet or strap: a bracelet can feel substantially heavier and more substantial than a rubber, sail-canvas or NATO setup.
- Wrist fit: try the watch on your wrist, especially if you are choosing between 38 mm and larger cases.
How much is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 38 mm?

A strap-versus-bracelet price difference is not simply a case-material premium: clasp type, bracelet construction and the supplied configuration also change the price. Ask Blancpain or an authorized dealer for the current regional price of the precise reference.
What is the design story behind the mother-of-pearl editions?
Blancpain’s Lettres du Brassus says underwater photographer Jade Hoksbergen’s marine imagery informed the visual direction and communications for reference 5007. The brand specifically connects that work with the chromatic choices and the mother-of-pearl dials. This is Blancpain’s account of the collaboration, not an independently measured design specification.
The black and pink dégradé treatments make these the most visibly expressive versions. The pink model pairs its dial and bezel color with a brushed titanium case and pink-accented strap details; the black model uses polished red gold, a black bezel and a black mother-of-pearl dial.
What should you verify before buying?
- Confirm that the watch is reference 5007 and identify the exact case metal and dial/bezel combination.
- Check whether the package includes tropic rubber, sail-canvas, NATO or a titanium/steel bracelet, and whether the clasp is a pin buckle or deployant.
- Verify the movement designation in the model documentation: Blancpain’s two 2025 launch documents identify calibres 1150 and 1153 for different presentations.
- Confirm the current regional price and availability directly with Blancpain or an authorized dealer; the published US figures above are launch-era prices.
- For water use, rely on the current technical information for the exact configuration. The initial pink and black releases state 300 meters and a unidirectional domed sapphire bezel.
- Try the watch on your wrist and compare it with 42 mm and 45 mm models, paying attention to thickness, lug span and weight rather than diameter alone.
Verdict
The 38 mm Fifty Fathoms Automatique is a genuine new size in Blancpain’s Automatique range, but reference 5007 is a varied family rather than one watch simply made smaller. Steel, titanium, red gold, blue, black and pink executions give it distinct visual and wearing identities. The strongest common points are Blancpain’s 100-hour reserve claims and the collection’s purpose-built 38 mm proportions; the details that decide a purchase are the exact metal, dial, movement designation, strap or bracelet and current regional price.
