What is the Seiko Presage SPB537?
The SPB537 is a steel, tonneau-shaped dress watch in Seiko’s Presage Classic Series. Its main visual features are a white enamel dial, black Roman numerals, blue hands and a small 24-hour subdial at six o’clock. The reference appears as SPB537J1 on Seiko’s regional product pages.
In its January 8, 2026 launch announcement, Seiko described the watch as the only tonneau-shaped model in the current Presage lineup. That description applies to the lineup at the time of the announcement, not necessarily to later collections. What is the design inspired by?
Seiko says the dial and Roman numerals pay homage to the Seikosha “Timekeeper,” a pocket watch launched in 1895. That is the manufacturer’s stated design inspiration; it does not make the SPB537 a reproduction of the earlier watch.

The dial’s enamel surface is central to the design. Seiko identifies Mitsuru Yokosawa and Kazunori Uchiyama as the artisans behind it, noting that Uchiyama refined his skills under Yokosawa’s guidance. The case shape, five-row bracelet and curved crystal give the historical reference a contemporary wristwatch form.
What should you expect from the enamel dial?
Seiko says the dial is produced by firing enamel at high temperature. It also cautions that the melting process may result in small dimples, tiny dots or a rough surface, and that no two genuine enamel dials are exactly alike. The published product information does not set a threshold separating an acceptable surface variation from a defect, so a buyer concerned about a particular dial should inspect that individual watch with the retailer.

The dial has Roman-hour markers and a 24-hour subdial, rather than a date display. The 24-hour indication is driven by the movement’s additional hand; it is not a second time zone with independent adjustment, according to the listed functions.

These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not results from an independent test. The 35.9 mm width gives only one part of the fit picture: the 46.0 mm lug-to-lug length, 12.5 mm thickness and curved tonneau case also affect how the watch sits. Trying it on is the most reliable way to judge wrist fit.

How does the 6R5H movement work?
The 6R5H is an automatic mechanical movement that can also be wound by hand. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and has 24 jewels. Seiko lists an approximately 72-hour power reserve, so a fully wound watch can continue running for roughly three days off the wrist, subject to actual operating conditions.
Its stop-seconds function halts the seconds hand when the crown is pulled to set the time, allowing more precise synchronization. Seiko’s stated precision range is +25 to -15 seconds per day; this is the manufacturer’s specification, not a guarantee that every watch will keep time at a particular rate in daily wear.

The price depends on the market and the date of the listing. Seiko’s January 8, 2026 launch release gave a recommended retail price of €1,650 for Europe. Seiko’s US product page listed USD 1,600 when accessed in 2026, while the Seiko Official UK Online Store’s live page listed £1,460 when accessed in 2026. Who might find the SPB537 appealing?
The watch is most distinctive for someone who wants a traditional dial treatment in a less conventional case shape. Its enamel dial and Roman numerals emphasize craft and heritage, while the automatic movement, sapphire crystal and steel bracelet make it a modern everyday wristwatch in construction. The 5-bar water-resistance rating is a practical limit to keep in mind: the published figure should not be taken as a claim that this is a dedicated swimming or diving watch.

The 20 mm lug spacing is useful information if considering a different strap, but it does not establish that every 20 mm strap will fit. Case clearance, end links and actual fit still matter; Seiko’s listed configuration is the five-row steel bracelet.
