Google has confirmed that it will not release another Fitbit-branded smartwatch. There will be no Fitbit Sense 3 or Versa 5, making the Sense 2 and Versa 4 the final conventional Fitbit watches. Existing devices are not being universally switched off, but Fitbit’s watch category is no longer an active hardware platform.
Fitbit itself is continuing through trackers, screen-free wearables, health software and services, while Google’s full smartwatch strategy has moved to Pixel Watch.
What Google is actually discontinuing
The change applies to Fitbit-branded smartwatches, principally the Sense and Versa families. Google’s decision, reported on July 22, 2026, rules out direct successors such as the Sense 3 and Versa 5 (Wareable).
That is different from shutting down Fitbit. Trackers such as Charge 6 and Inspire 3 remain part of the lineup, and Google introduced the screen-free Fitbit Air in 2026. Fitbit’s algorithms and data services also remain important parts of Google’s health products.

The final Fitbit smartwatches
Fitbit Sense 2
The Sense 2 was the health-focused model, with features including ECG in supported regions, stress-related sensing, GPS, sleep tracking and comparatively long battery life. Availability of regulated features varies by country and approval status.
Fitbit Versa 4
The Versa 4 was the less expensive watch-shaped option. It offered activity and sleep tracking, GPS, notifications and selected Google integrations, but fewer advanced health sensors than the Sense line.
“Final model” does not mean either watch becomes an immediate brick. A device can continue syncing and tracking while its app, cloud services and hardware remain compatible. It does mean there is no planned upgrade path within the Fitbit watch family.
Why Pixel Watch replaced the Fitbit watch line
Google already owns Fitbit and has a full Wear OS platform in Pixel Watch. Maintaining two Google-owned smartwatch families would duplicate hardware and software work, split marketing and create unclear positioning. Pixel Watch supplies Google apps, Wallet, Maps, notifications, LTE options and third-party applications, while Fitbit contributes health and fitness expertise.

What Sense 2 and Versa 4 owners should expect
Basic use can continue
Owners may still track activity, sleep, heart rate and workouts and receive notifications while the watch remains compatible with Google’s app and services. Google has not announced a universal shutdown date for Sense 2 or Versa 4 syncing. Battery wear, app compatibility, cloud availability and feature-specific changes will determine practical lifespan.
The Fitbit app has become Google Health
Google began transitioning the Fitbit app into the Google Health app on May 19, 2026. The redesigned app organizes information into Today, Fitness, Sleep and Health sections and brings together data from Fitbit devices, Pixel Watches, Health Connect and other sources (Google Health Help).
Some features have changed
Google’s support documentation specifically records removal of Snore Detection for Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 users. It does not establish that every Sense 2 or Versa 4 feature has been removed, so owners should check the current device-specific notices rather than assume a blanket loss of functions.

Security support is model-specific
Google’s published table lists Sense security support through September 2025 and Versa 3 through December 2025. Charge 6 is listed through February 2028, with a possible extension while it remains sold through Fitbit.com or the Google Store. Those dates do not establish a universal deadline for Sense 2 or Versa 4; consult the current table for the exact model (Google security-support table).
Should you buy a remaining Sense 2 or Versa 4?
Only treat leftover stock as a short-term, discounted purchase—not as entry into a growing platform.
It can make sense when
- You prefer Fitbit’s familiar metrics and interface.
- Multi-day battery life matters more than a large app ecosystem.
- The price is substantially below current-generation alternatives.
- The seller offers a dependable warranty and return period.
- You accept that there will be no direct successor.
Skip it when
- You expect several years of new hardware and feature development.
- You need modern apps, cellular options, emergency functions or the broadest Google integration.
- You are paying close to the price of an actively supported Pixel Watch, Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch or Garmin.
- You want a clear future upgrade within the same Fitbit watch family.
The principal risk is stagnation rather than an immediate failure: a discounted watch may remain useful, but it will not receive the product-line investment of an active platform. A retailer listing can also represent old inventory, not a new production run.
Is Pixel Watch a replacement?
Pixel Watch is Google’s strategic replacement, but it is not a one-for-one Fitbit watch. It is a round Wear OS smartwatch with Fitbit-derived health tracking.

| Pixel Watch strengths | Pixel Watch trade-offs |
|---|---|
| Wear OS, Google apps, Wallet, Maps and third-party apps | Generally shorter battery life than traditional Fitbit watches |
| Notifications, optional LTE and broader smartwatch functions | Higher purchase price and more frequent charging |
| Fitbit health and fitness features integrated into the experience | Android-oriented compatibility; not every Fitbit feature is identical |
| Clearer ongoing product roadmap | Some advanced insights may require Google Health Premium |
Readers who bought Fitbit for five-to-seven-day endurance or lightweight overnight wear may prefer a tracker instead. Charging overnight can also interfere with sleep recording unless you change your charging routine.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What Google Health changes
The app migration places Fitbit inside a broader Google health platform rather than treating it as a separate software universe. Google has also renamed Fitbit Premium as Google Health Premium and announced an AI-oriented Health Coach. Google’s published price signal starts at $9.99 per month or $99 per year; bundles and regional pricing can change (Google Health announcement).
The rebrand is evidence of integration, not proof that every Fitbit device is being discontinued. Hardware support, feature availability and subscription requirements still vary by device, country, phone and regulatory approval.
What Fitbit hardware comes next?
Google announced Fitbit Air as a discreet, screen-free wearable designed for sleep and wellness, including use alongside a Pixel Watch. Google lists compatibility of Android 11 or later and iOS 16.4 or later for the relevant Fitbit health app announcement (Fitbit Air). It does not provide smartwatch apps, payments, GPS navigation or a notification screen.

That points to a Fitbit future centered on trackers and complementary wearables, not another watch-shaped operating system.
Alternatives by priority
| If you prioritize… | Consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fitbit-style tracking in a small band | Charge 6 or Inspire 3 | Familiar Fitbit ecosystem and multi-day tracking without full smartwatch complexity. |
| Full smartwatch functions on Android | Google Pixel Watch | Wear OS, Google services and Fitbit health features. |
| Samsung phone integration | Samsung Galaxy Watch | Wear OS and close Samsung ecosystem integration; some features vary by phone and region. |
| Deepest iPhone integration | Apple Watch | Strongest native iPhone app and service integration; unsuitable for Android users. |
| Long battery life and serious training | Garmin | Broad GPS, sports and training range, usually with less Fitbit ecosystem integration. |
| Screen-free sleep and recovery | Oura or WHOOP | Different form factors and coaching models; subscription costs matter. |
Special cases to check before switching
- iPhone owners: Verify compatibility for the specific product. Fitbit devices historically supported iOS, while Pixel Watch is generally Android-oriented.
- ECG buyers: Sense 2 ECG availability depends on country and regulatory authorization.
- Used-watch buyers: Check battery health, account pairing, charger availability, return rights and current Google Health syncing.
- Subscription-sensitive buyers: Separate hardware-included metrics from Google Health Premium features before purchasing.
- Feature-parity expectations: “Fitbit-powered” does not mean every Sense or Versa function appears unchanged on every Pixel Watch or tracker.
Bottom line
Fitbit smartwatches are effectively finished: Sense 2 and Versa 4 are the last models, and Google has confirmed there will be no Sense 3 or Versa 5. Fitbit remains alive as Google’s tracker, health-software and wearable-technology brand. Buy leftover Fitbit watches only at a meaningful discount with strong returns; choose Pixel Watch for a full Android smartwatch, or select a tracker, Garmin, Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch according to your battery, phone and fitness priorities.
