Fitbit’s Android app entered Google Play’s 100M+ download tier on September 25, 2024. That is a cumulative Play Store milestone—not proof of 100 million current users, active accounts, or Fitbit devices sold. By July 2026, Google listed the same app as Google Health (Fitbit), and it still displayed 100M+ downloads.
What the 100M+ milestone means
The milestone was a change in the app’s public Google Play download tier, reported on September 25, 2024. Google Play displays broad thresholds rather than an exact public total, so the listing does not tell readers whether the app had 101 million installs, 150 million, or another figure above the threshold. 9to5Google reported the 2024 milestone; the current Google Play listing continues to show 100M+.
The figure applies to the Android app listing on Google Play. It does not establish the number of unique people, active users, registered accounts, devices sold, or devices still in use. Nor does it count iOS downloads, web users, or Fitbit owners who never installed the Android app.
Which app reached the threshold?
A Fitbit companion app, not a device-sales count
The app was listed as Fitbit when it crossed the threshold. The report says it had been available since March 16, 2012, as a companion for Fitbit trackers and Fitbit OS watches. The milestone is therefore about the Android app’s accumulated Play Store installs over time, not sales of a particular wearable.

Google Fit had also reached Google Play’s 100M+ tier, according to the contemporaneous report. That provides context for Google’s Android health-app footprint, but the bucketed figures cannot establish which service has more users or compare Fitbit’s popularity across Android, iOS, and other platforms.
What changed around the 2024 milestone?
The app was undergoing a broad Material You redesign that had begun rolling out more than a year earlier. In 2024, Fitbit was revising individual pages for areas including sleep, heart rate, body responses and mood, mindfulness, and stress management. The app also added Health Connect integration, while Fitbit.com’s dashboard was being replaced by the mobile app. Google had discussed future Fitbit Labs features for conversational interaction with health data.

What happened to the Fitbit app?
By July 2026, Google Play identified the same Android package, com.fitbit.FitbitMobile, as Google Health (Fitbit). Google’s listing says, “The Fitbit App is now Google Health.” It is published by Google LLC and still shows 100M+ downloads. This is the same app lineage under updated branding, not evidence of a second threshold crossing. See the Google Play listing.

These details reflect the listing available in July 2026; features and availability can vary by country, device, account, and rollout.
What Android users should know
- Hardware and platform: The app supports Fitbit devices and Pixel Watch, but the 100M+ figure is for the Android Google Play listing, not every platform.
- Paid features: The app is free to install, but some features require a separate premium subscription. The download tier does not reveal how many people pay for a subscription.
- Availability: Some integrations and features vary by country, device, account, or subscription status.
- Health and privacy: Google Play says the developer supplies the listing’s data-safety information, which may change; the listing says data is encrypted in transit and users can request deletion. It also says the app is not intended for medical purposes. Consult an appropriate health professional for medical concerns.
Why the milestone matters for Google’s wearable strategy
A long-running app with more than a decade of accumulated Android installs gives Google a substantial route into the health and wearable ecosystem. The current listing connects Fitbit’s established tracking role with Pixel Watch, broader health-data features, and subscription coaching. That installed base may help Google present hardware and services to people already familiar with Fitbit, but the Play Store threshold alone says nothing about retention, recent growth, purchasing intent, or how many users own a current device.
