Garmin Index Sleep Monitor: Specifications, Price and Buying Guide (2026)

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Garmin Index Sleep Monitor is a standalone upper-arm sleep band for Garmin Connect users who want overnight data without wearing a smartwatch. It uses a removable sensor module and washable fabric band, and Garmin lists it at a U.S. suggested retail price of $169.99. Its strongest advantage is continuity with Garmin sleep, HRV and Body Battery features; its main costs are wearing, charging and syncing a second device.

Garmin announced the monitor on June 18, 2025. U.S. product pages currently offer S–M and L–XL versions, with availability and checkout pricing subject to change. It is a wellness tracker—not a smartwatch or a medical sleep-apnea diagnostic device.

Garmin Index Sleep Monitor price and availability

Garmin’s U.S. suggested retail price is $169.99. That is the manufacturer’s listed price, not a guarantee of the final total at every retailer; tax, shipping, discounts and stock can vary. Garmin’s U.S. product page showed the monitor available to ship in 1–3 business days when checked for this article on August 16, 2026.

Choose between S–M and L–XL. Replacement bands are sold separately at Garmin’s replacement-band page; the current band price should be confirmed on that live page.

What the Index Sleep Monitor is

This is a dedicated sleep and recovery band worn around the upper arm. The electronic module detaches from the textile band, allowing the band to be washed. Overnight data syncs to Garmin Connect and can be transferred to a compatible Garmin primary wearable.

It is not a wristwatch, ring, chest strap, Garmin Index smart scale or general-purpose smartwatch. Garmin does not identify it as a medical device, and its measurements should not replace clinical evaluation or a sleep study.

Choosing a size and getting a reliable fit

The size ranges overlap at 26–29 cm. In that overlap, choose according to comfort, preferred tightness and whether you expect to wear the band over bare skin or clothing.

  • Place the module flat against the skin.
  • Avoid overtightening; Garmin warns that excessive pressure can reduce optical heart-rate performance.
  • Position the module where you will not lie directly on it.
  • Allow several nights to find the most consistent position.

Readings can also be influenced by movement, tattoos, circulation, body position, skin contact and puckering in the fabric. Garmin’s fit guidance is available at Garmin Support. Tattoos do not automatically make readings unusable, but optical performance can vary; see Garmin’s product support hub.

Garmin Index™ Sleep Monitor, L-XL
  • Worn on the upper arm, this lightweight and breathable smart sleep band is available in two sizes for comfort throughout the night. Physical size: Sleep Band L-XL: 17.8" x 2.5" x 0.02" (452 x 63.5 x 0.55 mm)
  • Can provide sleep-tracking metrics, including sleep score, sleep stages, HRV and duration of rest (data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked)
  • Up to 7 nights of battery life
  • For more insight into your health, the breathing variations feature uses Pulse Ox to check your level of variations while sleeping (this is not a medical device and not intended for diagnosing or monitoring medical conditions; Pulse Ox is required and not available in all countries)

What it tracks

Sleep score and stages

Garmin reports a personalized 0–100 sleep score using factors such as duration, stress and estimated stages. It reports light, deep and REM sleep, but these are algorithmic consumer estimates rather than direct measurements of brain waves.

Heart and recovery signals

The band can record resting heart rate and overnight HRV-related information. HRV Status is a longer-term interpretation that needs multiple nights to establish a personal baseline. Body Battery combines sleep and activity information into Garmin’s recovery-style score.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pulse Ox, breathing and temperature

Pulse Ox provides overnight blood-oxygen readings where the feature is available; availability varies by country. Breathing variations and skin temperature are wellness trends, not diagnoses. Fit, movement and sensor contact can make Pulse Ox especially variable.

Coaching features

Garmin Connect can provide Sleep Coach recommendations and sleep-need guidance based on sleep and activity history and HRV status. These are recommendations, not promises of improved recovery or treatment.

See Garmin’s metric documentation for the monitor’s sleep features: sleep metrics and device guidance.

How it works with Garmin watches

Wear the band overnight while your primary Garmin watch is charging or off your wrist. Garmin Connect combines the monitor’s overnight information with data from compatible Garmin primary wearables. Garmin does not prominently publish one universal compatibility list in the core product materials, so verify your watch before buying.

Wearable4U Garmin Index Sleep Monitor (L/XL) – Smart Sleep Band with Advanced Sleep Tracking & Recovery Metrics, HRV, Skin Temperature & Women's Health Tracking, Garmin Connect Compatible PowerBank
  • Worn on the upper arm, this lightweight and breathable smart sleep band is available in two sizes for comfort throughout the night
  • Using skin temperature, advanced women’s health tracking provides more insight into your menstrual cycle, including better period predictions and past ovulation estimates (this feature is not intended to support conception, contraception or birth control and is not a medical device)

The value is ecosystem continuity: you can preserve Garmin sleep, HRV and Body Battery history without sleeping in the watch. The trade-off is maintaining another wearable and depending on the Garmin Connect workflow.

Setup and nightly use

  1. Plug the band into its charger to turn it on.
  2. Install or open Garmin Connect and pair the monitor.
  3. Charge it fully and install available software updates.
  4. Activate the band before going to sleep.
  5. Set your schedule in Garmin Connect: Menu → Garmin Devices → Index Sleep Monitor → System → Sleep Schedule, then choose the day range and enter Bed Time and Wake Time. Labels can change with app updates; this path comes from Garmin’s manual.

Getting-started instructions are in Garmin’s manual.

Morning sync and troubleshooting

After waking, remove the band and bring it near the paired phone. Open Garmin Connect, or leave it running in the background, and allow several minutes for synchronization. Keep the phone within Bluetooth range of both the monitor and watch, and leave the primary Garmin device powered on for at least 15 minutes after removing it at night. Turning the band inside out or plugging in the module can encourage a faster sync; do not leave the module on a reflective surface.

If data is missing or incomplete, check the following:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The band was activated before bed and the sleep schedule is plausible.
  • The module was flat against the skin and neither too loose nor too tight.
  • You did not sleep directly on the module or remove it during the night.
  • Bluetooth was enabled and Garmin Connect had background access.
  • The phone, band and primary watch were close enough to connect.

These are setup considerations, not guaranteed explanations for every missed night. Garmin’s sync instructions are at this manual page and Garmin Support.

Erratic Pulse Ox

Recheck fit, placement, movement and skin contact. An unusual wearable Pulse Ox value is not a medical measurement; seek professional advice for symptoms or persistent concerns.

Who should buy it?

Good match

  • Garmin owners who dislike sleeping in a watch or need to charge it overnight.
  • People who want Garmin Connect, HRV and Body Battery continuity.
  • Buyers who prefer an upper-arm band to a finger-worn ring.
  • Users seeking a one-time hardware purchase rather than a mandatory sleep-tracking membership.

Poor match

  • People who do not use Garmin Connect.
  • Anyone wanting GPS, workouts, notifications, a screen or daytime activity tracking from this device.
  • Garmin owners already comfortable wearing their watch overnight.
  • Buyers seeking a standalone tracker independent of a phone ecosystem.
  • Anyone needing clinical diagnosis of sleep apnea or another disorder.

Alternatives and long-term cost

The simplest alternative is an existing Garmin watch: it avoids buying and maintaining another sensor, although it keeps the watch on your wrist overnight. A ring is a different fit and ecosystem choice. For example, Oura’s U.S. Ring 4 store lists hardware from $349, with membership at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year after a complimentary first month. See Oura Ring 4 and Oura’s membership terms. That makes the comparison upper arm versus finger, Garmin versus Oura, and upfront hardware versus hardware plus membership—not a claim that one is universally more accurate.

Frequently asked questions

Does it require a subscription?

Garmin’s reviewed product and manual materials do not identify a recurring subscription as required for the monitor’s core sleep tracking. Individual Garmin Connect features and policies can change.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can it replace a Garmin watch?

No. It is a dedicated overnight sleep and recovery band, not a smartwatch replacement.

Does it measure REM and deep sleep?

Yes, Garmin reports estimated light, deep and REM stages. They are consumer algorithm estimates, not clinical brain-wave measurements.

How long does the battery last?

Garmin rates it for up to seven nights with SpO₂ enabled. Runtime is not guaranteed and varies with settings, temperature, firmware, battery age and use.

Is it waterproof?

It has a 5 ATM water rating. Use that rating rather than assuming unrestricted waterproofing in every situation.

The Bottom Line

The Index Sleep Monitor is worth considering if you already use Garmin Connect and want overnight Garmin data without wearing your watch.
