What is the Grand Seiko SLGB005?
The SLGB005, named “Ice Forest – Violet Dawn,” is an Evolution 9 model combining Grand Seiko’s automatic Spring Drive U.F.A. movement with an Ever-Brilliant Steel case and bracelet. Grand Seiko announced it as a worldwide limited edition of 1,300 watches, with 700 allocated to Japan. The edition count and allocation are from the company’s 2025 announcement.
U.F.A. is part of the model’s designation; the concrete performance figure published for this watch is the movement’s average accuracy rating, described below. The SLGB005 is a limited, high-value collector watch, but the edition size alone does not establish current availability or future market value.
Why is the dial called “Ice Forest – Violet Dawn”?
Grand Seiko says the violet dial and its texture evoke dawn arriving over frost-covered forests in the Shinshu region of central Japan, where the company crafts its Spring Drive watches. This is the maker’s stated inspiration, rather than an independently established description of a particular landscape.

Movement, accuracy and power reserve

The SLGB005 uses Caliber 9RB2, an automatic Spring Drive movement with 34 jewels. Grand Seiko lists an approximately 72-hour power reserve. Those are published specifications, not measurements from an individual watch.

What the accuracy rating means
Grand Seiko specifies average accuracy of ±20 seconds per year, also expressed as approximately ±3 seconds per month. The company’s Japan announcement qualifies the annual figure as an average when the watch is worn on the wrist in an ambient temperature range of 5°C to 35°C. It is a manufacturer rating, not a guarantee that every example will keep exactly that time or an independent test result for the SLGB005.

The 37.0 mm diameter and 44.3 mm lug-to-lug measurement describe different aspects of fit: the former is the case width, while the latter spans the ends of the lugs. Thickness is 11.4 mm. Those dimensions help narrow a fit comparison, but they do not predict how the watch will wear on every wrist. The clasp’s lack of micro-adjustment, as stated on the US listing, is worth considering if fine bracelet sizing is important to you.

Price and release by market
Grand Seiko’s September 25, 2025 Japan announcement gave a recommended retail price of ¥1,463,000 including tax and a planned Japan release date of November 8, 2025. The US official boutique listing displayed USD $11,100 when accessed for the cited listing, while the Indonesian official product page displayed Rp 173,500,000. These are separate regional prices, not currency conversions or a universal price; check the local listing for current pricing.
