What separates the two Ice Forest watches?
SLGB001: platinum, crocodile and scarcity
SLGB001 uses a platinum 950 case and crocodile strap. Grand Seiko announced it as an 80-piece worldwide limited edition, with 40 watches allocated to Japan in the initial announcement. Its boutique-only positioning makes availability part of the specification: once the allocation is exhausted, acquiring one depends on existing ownership transfers rather than regular production.
SLGB003: lighter bright titanium and a bracelet
SLGB003 replaces platinum with bright titanium and uses an integrated-looking titanium bracelet. The official Japanese listing gives a 100 g weight, 20 mm band width, 44.3 mm length and a maximum wrist circumference of 195 mm. Its bracelet clasp has micro-adjustment, allowing incremental sizing changes without removing links. Grand Seiko does not publish equivalent weight or wrist-fit figures for SLGB001 in the cited material, so the titanium model’s 100 g figure should not be applied to the platinum watch.

Shared case, dial theme and wearing dimensions
Both references use a 37.0 mm-wide, 11.4 mm-thick case and are rated to 10 bar water resistance. The compact width is the same on paper, but the metals and attachment systems change how each watch will feel: platinum is denser, while the titanium SLGB003 is listed at 100 g including its bracelet. No measured SLGB001 weight is supplied.
The Ice Forest dial represents frost-covered trees near the Seiko Epson Shiojiri facility, Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive manufacturing site. The brand describes the effect as a finely stamped pattern and coloring developed through its Evolution 9 design language. Dial texture and color are therefore shared design territory, while case and bracelet material create the strongest visual and tactile distinction.

Accuracy and reserve
Both watches use automatic Spring Drive caliber 9RB2. Grand Seiko specifies annual accuracy of ±20 seconds, which it also expresses as approximately ±3 seconds per month, and approximately 72 hours of power reserve. The stated wrist-worn accuracy condition is 5°C to 35°C. These are the manufacturer’s specifications, not a guarantee that every individual watch will perform identically in every environment.
How Grand Seiko describes the regulation system
Spring Drive takes energy from a conventional mainspring but regulates its release with a quartz oscillator and integrated circuit. For 9RB2, Grand Seiko says it aged the oscillator for three months, sealed it in a vacuum with a newly designed IC and uses temperature measurements to correct frequency. Those details explain the architecture and the brand’s claimed performance; they are not independent validation.

Release timing and current availability
Grand Seiko initially announced a June 6, 2025 release. A production-related delay moved the release date to July 11, 2025, as documented in the brand’s July 1, 2025 notice. The current Japanese SLGB003 product page offers purchase and store-finder options, but the listing showed no stock when accessed on September 28, 2026. Inventory can change, and that page does not establish worldwide availability.
Prices: Japan figures only
Grand Seiko’s April 2025 Japanese announcement listed suggested prices of ¥5,500,000 for SLGB001 and ¥1,518,000 for SLGB003. The Japanese SLGB003 page displayed ¥1,518,000 when accessed on September 28, 2026. These amounts are Japan-market figures tied to the stated dates; they should not be treated as current prices in other currencies, countries or retailers.
Design recognition
Grand Seiko announced in June 2026 that SLGB003 received the Red Dot Design Award’s Best of the Best in the product design category. That award attribution comes from Grand Seiko’s June 11, 2026 announcement.
Which model fits which buyer?
Choose SLGB001 when exclusivity and precious metal are the point
- You specifically want a platinum 950 case and crocodile strap.
- An 80-piece worldwide limit and boutique-only positioning matter more than bracelet convenience.
- You accept that published fit and weight data are limited compared with SLGB003.
Choose SLGB003 when daily wear and adjustability matter
- You prefer bright titanium and a bracelet rather than platinum and leather.
- The listed 100 g weight, 20 mm band and micro-adjustment clasp are useful for sizing decisions.
- You want the regular model rather than a numbered limited edition, subject to local stock.
The movement, stated accuracy, reserve, case diameter, thickness and water resistance do not decide between them; the material, bracelet-versus-strap setup and availability do.
