The clearest practical differences are their design, strap, dimensions, water-resistance ratings and pricing.
Two designs, two different moods
Evolution 9 Tentagraph SLGC007
The SLGC007 brings the Tentagraph into Grand Seiko’s Evolution 9 design language. Its snow-blue dial has an embossed pattern inspired by the ridgelines of Mount Iwate; black sub-dials represent exposed mountain surfaces. A titanium bracelet and ceramic bezel keep the overall presentation comparatively restrained. Grand Seiko’s official SLGC007 page describes the dial inspiration and specifications.
Sport Collection Tokyo Lion Tentagraph SLGC009
The SLGC009 takes a more assertive approach. Grand Seiko describes its Tokyo Lion case as claw-like, with hairline-finished surfaces and Zaratsu polishing. A textured dial references a lion’s mane, while the brown rubber strap has an underside design inspired by a lion’s paw. Its Brilliant Hard Titanium case gives the watch a distinctive material and finish as well as the sculptural shape. These details appear in Grand Seiko’s April 1, 2025 announcement.
How their dimensions and wear differ
The cases are close in diameter, but the watches are not identical in thickness or fit. The SLGC007’s published 51.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement is useful when estimating how much of the wrist it spans; the SLGC009 announcement does not state a lug-to-lug measurement.

The Tokyo Lion’s official launch specification gives its thickness as 15.6 mm. A contemporaneous Fratello comparison lists 15.5 mm, but Grand Seiko’s figure is the appropriate one to use for the manufacturer’s specification.
Shared Tentagraph movement and chronograph
Both watches use Grand Seiko’s automatic Caliber 9SC5. It beats 10 times per second and is specified to run for 72 hours, including with the chronograph operating. Grand Seiko attributes the reserve to a twin-barrel design and describes a Dual Impulse Escapement. For chronograph operation, the movement uses a vertical clutch and column wheel; a three-pointed hammer returns the hands to zero in synchronization.

Grand Seiko says each Tentagraph is tested for 20 days against its Grand Seiko Standard of +5 to -3 seconds per day, including while the chronograph is running. The SLGC007 product page separately lists mean daily rate as +5 to -3 seconds per day and normal-usage accuracy as +8 to -1 seconds per day; those are distinct figures and should not be conflated.

The official water-resistance ratings differ: 10 bar for the SLGC007 and 20 bar for the SLGC009. These are manufacturer specifications, not a substitute for checking the watch’s condition or following Grand Seiko’s use and care guidance.

For the US, Grand Seiko’s live SLGC007 page listed the watch at $14,700 and indicated availability through Grand Seiko Boutiques and Salons when accessed October 4, 2026. Price and stock may change. The SLGC009 announcement gave an approximate US recommended retail price of $16,400 as of April 1, 2025, with boutique availability beginning in August 2025. That is historical launch pricing, not a confirmed current price; the figures should not be treated as a current, like-for-like quote.

Which Tentagraph fits which preference?
- Choose the SLGC007 if you prefer a quieter Evolution 9 design, a winter-mountain dial, and a titanium bracelet. Its listed 51.5 mm lug-to-lug is the key measurement to consider for wrist fit.
- Consider the SLGC009 if you want the more sculptural Tokyo Lion case, lion-inspired dial details, a brown rubber strap, and the higher published water-resistance rating.
- For the movement, there is no distinction between them in the cited specifications: both use Caliber 9SC5 with a 72-hour reserve and 10-beat-per-second operation.
