The Ōtsuka Lōtec No. 7.5 tells time through three separate windows rather than conventional hands: jumping hours, minutes and seconds each have their own rotating display. The current version pairs that unusual readout with a 40 mm steel case and an automatic Miyota movement fitted with an in-house jumping-hour module. Fratello’s Thor Svaboe found it wore compactly for its diameter, while noting that the display takes a little time to read naturally.
How the No. 7.5 displays the time
Look through the three apertures to read the time: the hour changes in a jump, while separate discs indicate minutes and seconds. Unlike the earlier No. 7, whose minutes and seconds discs shared an axis, the No. 7.5 gives hours, minutes and seconds independent displays. The seconds disc is more than decoration: webChronos reviewer Shun Horiuchi described using it to check whether the mechanism was running.
The unusual layout has a practical learning curve. Svaboe wrote in Fratello’s January 2024 hands-on report that the display became legible once he had grown accustomed to its appearance; that is his experience, not an independent test.

How the mechanism is built—and how to set it
The automatic Miyota 82S5 is the base movement; Ōtsuka Lōtec adds its own module to create the jumping-hour display. In a 2023 interview, designer and watchmaker Jiro Katayama told Fratello that he designs in-house display modules for Miyota movements. He said a typical module uses about 30 parts, including gears, springs and discs. That is a general description of a typical module, not a part count confirmed specifically for the No. 7.5.
Follow the maker’s winding-direction warning when adjusting the time. The product page says: “Always turn the crown moving the time forward, when setting the time. Don’t turn the crown the other way around when setting the time, for fear you should break it.” In other words, set the time by turning the crown forward; do not turn it backward to adjust the display.

What it is like to wear
Svaboe reported that the 40 mm watch wore compactly on his wrist and measured its lug-to-lug length at 45 mm. He also found that the custom calfskin strap began stiff and formed to his wrist over time. Those are his January 2024 observations; the stated 45 mm measurement is his own, not a manufacturer dimension.
The case’s maximum height is 14.8 mm, so the watch’s profile deserves as much consideration as its diameter. Its display is also part of the wearing experience: people who enjoy learning a distinctive format may find the separate windows engaging, while anyone who wants to read the time instantly at a glance may prefer a conventional dial.

The 20 mm lug width offers a familiar strap measurement, and webChronos reports that the strap can be replaced. However, the factory strap is specially designed for the watch, and its wire-style lugs mean a replacement should be checked for fit rather than assumed compatible just because it is 20 mm wide.
Design background and model timeline
Katayama told Fratello that the initial inspiration was an 8 mm movie camera. He had started his career as a car and product designer, then acquired a lathe through an internet auction because he wanted to make something himself. He told the publication that watches appealed to him because one person could make them and because people wear watches to express individuality.

The model page does not establish current stock, export availability or a sales schedule, so availability outside Japan—or whether the watch can be purchased now—cannot be concluded from the listed specifications. The stated 3 ATM water resistance is modest; the No. 7.5 should not be described as a diving watch.
