Praesidus says the design grew from its study of an original 1944 Waltham A-11; the new watch keeps the military-style layout while adding features the brand describes as more practical for daily wear, including 10 ATM water resistance and luminous dial elements.
What is the Praesidus A-11 Type 44?
Praesidus presents the Type 44 as a revival of the A-11, a tool watch associated with US military specifications from the Second World War. The brand says the project began after it bought an original 1944 Waltham A-11, had the watch disassembled, and asked its in-house designer to study and draw its components. That is the maker’s account of the design process, rather than an independent verification of how closely every dimension or detail matches the original. Praesidus’ Type 44 project page explains the project and lists the watch’s specifications.
Praesidus’ archive describes its A-11 Combat as having paved the way for the Type 44. This places the model within the company’s own A-11-inspired product lineage, but does not make the Type 44 an original military-issued watch. The brand’s archive gives its account of that connection.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choosing between the 32mm and 38mm versions
The main stated difference between the two versions is case diameter. At 32mm, the watch is closer to the compact scale many readers associate with vintage military watches. The 38mm option gives it a more contemporary presence. Those are general fit considerations, not a substitute for trying the watch on: wrist shape, case proportions and personal preference matter as much as the diameter.
The specifications available here do not establish variant-specific lug width or strap dimensions. Confirm those details with Praesidus before buying an alternate strap or bracelet, and verify which size is being offered by a seller.

How it differs from an original A-11
Praesidus describes the Type 44 as an upgrade in everyday durability over original A-11 construction. The brand points to a stainless-steel case instead of plated brass, 10 ATM water resistance and luminous elements. Treat that as the maker’s comparison: the available sources do not provide independent testing of the Type 44’s water resistance or a side-by-side durability assessment.
The re-edition also has a modified manual-wind Soprod P024 movement, while an original A-11 belongs to a different historical production context. Age, service history and condition vary from one vintage watch to another, so this information does not establish how a Type 44 compares with any particular original in serviceability or collectability. Praesidus’ A-11 historical account offers its perspective on the watch’s military background; it should be read as the manufacturer’s narrative.
