Check the app’s time-zone setting, choose the correct zone if needed, and sync the Fitbit.
Change the time zone on a Fitbit
These are the current instructions documented by Google for Fitbit devices using the Google Health app. The new time appears after a successful synchronization.
- Open the Google Health app.
- Open the Today tab.
- Tap your profile picture or initial.
- Tap Google Health settings.
- Under App Settings, tap Date, time & units.
- Tap Time Zone.
- To choose a zone yourself, turn off Set Automatically, select the correct time zone, and return to the previous screen.
- With the Fitbit near your phone, sync it.
Google’s full procedure is documented at Google Health Help. If the clock remains wrong after syncing, sign out of the Google Health app, sign back in, and sync again.
After travel or a daylight-saving change
First open the app with the Fitbit nearby and let it synchronize. If the displayed time still reflects your previous location, follow the time-zone steps above. Automatic detection depends on the phone’s location and date-and-time settings; it is not guaranteed to change the Fitbit immediately.

Use automatic time-zone detection
Leave Set Automatically enabled when you want the app to follow the phone’s detected location. This is convenient for frequent travelers, provided the phone is detecting the correct zone.
Choose a time zone manually
Turn Set Automatically off and select a zone when the phone detects the wrong location, when you are temporarily elsewhere, or when you deliberately want the Fitbit to stay on a fixed zone. A manually selected zone can make the Fitbit disagree with the phone after you move again, so turn automatic detection back on when appropriate.

If your app still says “Fitbit”
Google’s current help page uses Google Health app, Google Health settings, and Time Zone. Depending on your account migration and app release, you may instead see older labels such as Fitbit settings, App Settings, Automatic time zone, or Select time zone. These are interface variations for the same app-based process, not a different way to set the clock. A Google Health Community announcement from May 13, 2026, shows the older terminology: legacy Fitbit time-change guidance.
Switch between 12-hour and 24-hour time
This setting changes the clock’s display format; it does not correct a wrong time zone.

How to force a Fitbit sync
Fitbit devices generally synchronize automatically when they are near the phone and the app is open. To request a sync, open the app with the Fitbit nearby and, on Today, touch and hold the screen while pulling down. Some app versions also provide a Sync command in another location, so the exact icon or menu can vary. See Google’s sync instructions.

When the time is still wrong
Work through these checks in order. The clock cannot receive the correction until synchronization succeeds.
- Check the phone’s own date, time, and time-zone settings.
- Return to Date, time & units and verify the named Fitbit time zone.
- Keep the Fitbit close to the phone.
- Open Google Health and start a manual sync.
- Close and reopen the app, then try again.
- Sign out of Google Health, sign back in, and sync again. This is Google’s documented recovery step for a time that remains incorrect.
- Restart the Fitbit if synchronization continues to be unreliable.
- If the Fitbit cannot sync at all, troubleshoot the phone connection, Bluetooth, and app permissions before attempting another time-zone change.
If it is exactly one hour behind or ahead
A one-hour discrepancy can follow a daylight-saving transition, an adjacent time zone being selected, or automatic detection being disabled. Verify the named time zone rather than simply adding or subtracting an hour; daylight-saving rules differ by location and date.

If it is several hours wrong
Several hours usually points to the wrong time zone or a Fitbit that has not synchronized. Correct the zone in the app and sync before changing any display-format setting.
Changing the time is different from viewing it
If the time is correct but the screen is blank, the problem is screen wake rather than time-zone configuration. Depending on the model, turn your wrist toward yourself, tap the display, press a button, or use the model’s Quick View or screen-wake control. Supported devices may also offer an always-on display. Model-specific guidance for Charge 5, Charge 6, Inspire 3, Luxe, Sense-series, and Versa-series devices is available from Google Health Help.
Time zone, clock format, clock face, and screen wake
| Setting | What it changes | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Time zone | Corrects the local hour shown on the Fitbit | Date, time & units → Time Zone |
| Clock display time | Chooses 12-hour or 24-hour notation | Date, time & units → Clock Display Time |
| Clock face | Changes the design and information displayed | Clock-face controls for your model |
| Screen wake or always-on display | Controls how the clock becomes visible | Device-specific display settings |
Changing a clock face will not repair an incorrect time, and changing 12-hour/24-hour format will not change the time zone.
Model and support notes
The core correction is app-based across supported Fitbit trackers and watches, but device menus, screen behavior, and available display options differ by model. Do not expect every Fitbit to contain a device-side Time Zone control.
Fitbit Ace LTE has separate support documentation at Google’s Fitbit Ace LTE help site. Very old devices may also have limited app or security support. Google publishes model-specific support periods and notes that dates for currently sold devices can be extended; examples listed in its documentation include Luxe (at least June 2026), Charge 6, Inspire 3, Sense 2, and Versa 4 (at least February 2028). Check Google’s device-support information before concluding that a synchronization failure requires replacement.
