Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarers charge while docked in their dedicated charging case; the case itself charges over USB-C. Seat the glasses’ nose bridge on the case’s charging area, close the case and look for a pulsing orange light. You cannot charge the frames by plugging a cable directly into them. Current US Gen 2 product pages say a USB-C cable is not included, so check your box before charging.

What you need

  • Your Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer glasses and their dedicated charging case.
  • A USB-C cable to connect the case to power. Ray-Ban’s current US Gen 2 listing says the cable is not included; packaging can vary by market or bundle. Check the current US product listing.
  • A compatible USB power adapter or powered USB port.
  • The Meta AI app, if you want to check battery status after pairing.

The case is the charging interface for the glasses. The documented charging route is USB-C into the case, not a wireless pad or a cable connected to the frames.

How to charge the glasses

  1. If possible, turn the glasses off. Open the charging case.
  2. For a new or replacement case, remove the protective plastic tab covering its metal charging contacts before the first charge.
  3. Place the glasses in the case with the nose bridge seated on the case’s charging area. Check that the frames sit fully in place and the case closes without obstruction.
  4. Close the case and check its LED. Pulsing orange indicates that the glasses are charging. If the glasses are paired, the Meta AI app can also show charging status.
  5. Leave the glasses docked until the indicator shows they are fully charged.

These steps and the indicator meanings are described in Ray-Ban’s FAQ. A light’s meaning depends on whether the glasses are docked and whether the case is open or connected to power.

How to charge the case

  1. Find the USB-C charging connection on the case.
  2. Connect a USB-C cable to the case and connect the other end to a compatible wall adapter or powered USB port.
  3. Leave it connected until its charge status indicates that it is charged.

If the case is empty, charge it before expecting it to recharge the glasses. A wall adapter is a convenient option; a laptop port or power bank may also be useful, but charging availability and speed can vary. Ray-Ban does not specify a universal adapter wattage in the cited material, so do not assume a particular fast-charging rating is required.

What the charging-case lights mean

Ray-Ban’s FAQ distinguishes the case’s status when it is empty of glasses from the status when glasses are docked:

Situation Indicator Meaning
Case open, glasses not inside Green Case has more than 80% charge.
Case open, glasses not inside Orange Case has less than 80% charge.
Case open, glasses not inside Blinking red Case battery is empty.
Glasses docked Pulsing orange Glasses are charging.
Glasses docked Green Glasses are fully charged.
Glasses docked Red Case is out of battery or the glasses are not charging.

Use the light together with the physical setup: whether the case is open, whether the glasses are docked, and whether the case is connected to power can affect what you see. A red light with glasses inside does not by itself prove the glasses’ battery has failed.

How long charging takes—and how long a charge lasts

Ray-Ban’s FAQ gives these approximate glasses charging times. The current US Gen 2 Wayfarer product page separately states runtime and case capacity; those Gen 2 figures should not be assumed for every earlier Ray-Ban Meta model.

Ray-Ban’s current Gen 2 product page notes that temperature and usage conditions affect performance. Frequent video capture, calls, audio use or AI interactions can change how long a charge lasts.

Check battery status in the Meta AI app

When the glasses are connected to the Meta AI app, it can display their battery status and, when applicable, the case’s status. Ray-Ban’s FAQ describes status as available on the app’s main screen and in its settings area. Exact labels and placement can change by app version and region, so use the visible battery indicator rather than relying on a fixed menu name.

The app is a secondary check, not the only proof of charging. If it does not show a charging icon, first check that the glasses are seated correctly and inspect the case LED.

If your Meta Wayfarers are not charging

The glasses are new or do not respond in the case

  • Remove any protective plastic tab from the case’s metal charging contacts.
  • Reseat the glasses so the nose bridge meets the charging area, then make sure the case closes properly.
  • Check for dirt, dried sweat, moisture or an obstruction on the contacts. Clean carefully with a dry, soft cloth; do not put liquid on the contacts.
  • Confirm that the case has charge. A depleted case cannot recharge the glasses until it is connected to power.

The glasses will not turn on

  1. Dock the glasses and confirm they are properly seated on the contacts.
  2. Charge them for about an hour, then inspect and clean the contacts on both glasses and case with a dry, soft cloth.
  3. Try another wall outlet, USB-C cable and compatible USB power adapter, changing one item at a time if practical.
  4. Remove the glasses and slide and hold their power switch for five to 10 seconds. Look for the glasses’ notification LED.
  5. If they still do not turn on after several hours of charging, contact Ray-Ban support about warranty or replacement options.

The case will not charge

  1. Remove the glasses from the case.
  2. Try another USB-C cable, then another compatible power adapter and outlet or powered USB source.
  3. If the case still does not charge, Ray-Ban’s FAQ recommends a case reset: with the glasses removed, press and hold the rear button for at least 16 seconds or until the LED begins flashing white.
  4. Release the button and wait for the white flashing to stop. Redock the glasses and connect the case to power again.

This reset procedure is Ray-Ban’s documented troubleshooting step; it is not a repair for damaged hardware.

The light pulses repeatedly or the app shows no charging status

Before resetting, rule out a poor nose-bridge contact, dirty or damp contacts, a case that is not fully closed, a depleted case, or a faulty cable or power source. Ray-Ban’s FAQ associates persistent light patterns and a missing app charging icon with possible charger or case problems. Try a different cable and adapter. If the app alone is missing the status, confirm that the glasses are paired and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled as required by the app; close and reopen the case, restart the glasses and app, and re-pair only if simpler checks fail.

Charging safety and storage

  • Keep the case away from liquids and do not charge equipment that is wet, damaged, swollen or visibly overheated. Stop if the equipment becomes unusually hot.
  • Do not open the glasses or case to replace an internal battery. Contact Ray-Ban support for damaged or failing equipment.
  • Avoid extreme heat and cold. Ray-Ban warns that temperature conditions can affect performance and may permanently shorten battery life; see the Gen 2 product information.
  • For long-term storage, follow the safety guidance that applies to your model and region. Ray-Ban’s battery and charging safety document says the battery should be fully recharged at least every six months from its last charge; confirm that this document applies to your glasses.

Choosing a cable or power source

Use a USB-C cable in good condition and a reputable compatible USB power adapter or powered port. There is no documented universal wattage requirement in the cited guidance, so a specific charger rating should not be treated as mandatory. If charging behaves abnormally, swapping both cable and adapter is a useful way to rule out a power-source issue.

Can you charge the glasses without the case?

The documented charging method is to dock Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarers in their dedicated case. The frames have no documented direct cable-charging method in the cited guidance, so if you have the glasses but not the case, contact Ray-Ban about replacement or support options.

Make sure yours are smart Wayfarers

Ordinary Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer sunglasses are not electronic and do not need charging. Ray-Ban lists the Original Wayfarer separately from its electronic Meta Wayfarer products.
